Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In Leg 10, teams flew to Portugal. They started the leg overlooking what city?

Answer: Lisbon

To commence their penultimate leg of the race, the final four teams flew from Thessaloniki, Greece to the city of Lisbon, Portugal on the "Amazing Race" charter plane. They were subsequently brought to the Sanctuary of Christ the King in Almada to begin the leg in staggered departure times based on their arrivals at the previous Pit Stop. First and foremost they drove to the town of Setúbal to find Fortaleza de São Filipe, where they could head to the roof and search for the race flag on the Fisherman's Wharf and head to it to find their next clue.
2. In Setúbal in Leg 10, teams needed to select rowboats named after which of the following?

Answer: Explorers

Teams were warned that this tenth leg of the race would feature two Road Block tasks, so when they arrived at the Fisherman's Wharf in Setúbal, they were prepared to make a choice. For this task, one member of each team needed to search amongst numerous rowboats in the marina and pick one of only four named after Portuguese seafaring explorers.

They then needed to paddle the boat across the marina, delivering it to a local fisherman to get their next clue. If they got the wrong boat, they would need to paddle back and try again. Kim, Raquel, Ryan, and Arun completed this task.
3. During their visit to Setúbal, teams painted doorways with images given to them on which of these?

Answer: Sardine tins

If teams finished the rowboat Road Block they would be instructed to travel on foot to Mercearia Confiança de Troino to find their next task. For this, teams had to select one of four colourful sardine tins and bring it with them to the nearby Rua Vasco da Gama.

There, using their sardine tins as reference, they needed to work together to paint a door in the provided design to the approval of their artist judge. When they had the details done, they would be able to get their next clue.
4. For their final task in Leg 10, team members completed a Road Block in which they counted which of these?

Answer: Columns

Teams needed to drive themselves to the edge of the continent at Cabo Espichel whereupon they would find their final Road Block task of the race waiting for them at Santuário de Cabo Espichel. In this task, the racer who completed the rowing challenge had to sit this one out, so Penn, Cayla, Dusty, and Natalia were asked to stand within a marked spot in the building's courtyard and count all the columns within the structure. If they managed to get the correct answer of one hundred and six, they would get directions to their next destination.
5. Which team was eliminated in the penultimate leg of the race, leaving in fourth?

Answer: Arun and Natalia

When they finished their second Road Block tasks, teams were told to make their way on foot to Farol de Cabo Espichel, a lighthouse on the Portuguese coast, where they could check into their tenth Pit Stop and secure a spot in the top three for the final leg. Raquel and Cayla won their second leg of the race (and second in a row), this time claiming a trip for two to Saint Lucia courtesy of Travelocity. Arun and Natalia's luck finally ran out after returning from elimination after the COVID-19 hiatus and facing two non-elimination Pit Stops.

They went home in fourth place.
6. The final destination city of "The Amazing Race 33" was which of the following?

Answer: Los Angeles

In the final leg of the race, the final three teams were flown to Los Angeles and set up at the same time atop the helipad on Downtown L.A.'s Westin Bonaventure Hotel. Ripping open their first clues, teams were told they could unlock their next one from a locked clue box atop one of the four adjoining towers of the building. To do so, however, they would need to find the combination, a series of four numbers moving up and down on the sides of the building's elevators.
7. In the final leg of the race, teams needed to smash piñatas. Which was not one of the designs they needed to hit?

Answer: U-Turn symbol

When teams unlocked their clues on the Westin Bonaventure Hotel, they were told to drive themselves to the El Pueblo de Los Ángeles Historical Monument and a fleet of piñatas. While one team member donned a luchador blindfold, the other would need to direct them to smash three different piñatas-- a taco, a donkey, and an all-paper star. Each piñata, when smashed, would reveal a piece of their next clue.
8. Teams needed to create sound effects for past moments during earlier "The Amazing Race" seasons. Which of these events was not amongst them?

Answer: Balancing glass bottles in "The Amazing Race 20"

Teams continued on to S.I.R. Hollywood (at 6465 Sunset Blvd., Hollywood) for their next challenge, stopping off at this warehouse to become foley artists for a major production. For this task, racers had to involve themselves in sound design for classic moments from past "Amazing Race" seasons (including Colin's 'My Ox is Broken' moment from season 5 and Claire's watermelon incident from season 17). If they could associate the proper sounds with the proper silent clips they could get their next clue and keep racing.
9. Teams faced a memory challenge before heading to the finish line, and this involved providing answers found on which of these?

Answer: Tennis racquets

Finishing with their sound design challenge, teams had to drive themselves one last time to the home of the L.A. Galaxy, the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California and, when they arrived, they could face their final challenge at the tennis courts.

Here, teams needed to grab tennis rackets marked with different words, phrases, and images, and use them to answer thirteen different riddles pertaining to the legs of the race encountered since the teams returned from the COVID-19 hiatus (ie. Legs 4 through 11). If they got all of them, they could head out on foot.
10. Which team won "The Amazing Race 33"?

Answer: Kim and Penn

As soon as the tennis umpire deemed the teams' answers as correct during the cryptic tennis racquet challenge, they were allowed to race through the nearby tunnel into the Dignity Health Sports Park soccer field, their finish line for the race. Kim and Penn, who were behind going into the final memory challenge, managed to slip ahead in the final moments, narrowly beating our Raquel and Cayla to take first place and win the million dollar prize after twenty-two thousand miles and twenty months. They subsequently became the oldest couple to win "The Amazing Race" and the final three teams became the first in the show's history not to have a racer aged under thirty years old.
