Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The thirty-third season of the "Amazing Race" started in Los Angeles, California.

Answer: False

At the start of this thirty-third "Amazing Race" season, eleven teams from all over America received their first clue via video message from Phil who, beckoning them from London, told them to grab their bags and head directly to the nearest airport to take a flight to the UK.

This was the second time in race history in which teams did not necessarily meet at a designated starting point, the first being "The Amazing Race 28", when teams flew from one of three airports to Mexico City. Once teams landed, they would be let loose on the city and start racing as soon as they left the airport.
2. Arriving in London, teams visited Trafalgar Square to get their clues from men dressed as which of these?

Answer: Telephone booths

As soon as teams left the airport they could proceed to the famous London plaza at Trafalgar Square to find their first clue in the hands of one of many men dressed up as London's iconic red telephone booths. This clue would instruct them to race on foot down The Mall to Buckingham Palace where they could find their next clue box waiting in front of Canada Gate. What teams found there was the race's first Detour clue.
3. In the 'Artist Den' Detour option in Leg 1, teams needed to recreate a work similar to which UK artist's style?

Answer: Banksy

Teams who opted to take their time with 'Artist Den' made their way to Immersive LDN on South Molton Street, Mayfair, where they had to engage with the contemporary art scene by properly unpuzzling thirty-six pieces of a poster and properly arranging and posting them to a wall. Once they had their Banksy-esque art approved by the gallery owner they could receive their next clue. Ray and Caro, Kim and Penn, Michael and Moe, Taylor and Isaiah, Arun and Natalia, and Lulu and Lala completed this task.
4. Teams completing the 'Digiben' Detour task in Leg 1 visited all of these landmarks except which?

Answer: The London Eye

'Digiben' had teams racing around London searching for different people and places on foot. First, teams located a bobby-- a police officer-- at Parliament Square near Big Ben. Then, they would be directed to find a promoter waiting for them at Little Ben, a clocktower replica at Vauxhall Bridge Road and Victoria Street.

This promoter would, finally, direct them to find Digiben, the man who would be able to hand over their next clue. They would find him waiting at the tube station at Piccadilly Circus. Raquel and Cayla, Ryan and Dusty, Anthony and Spencer, Akbar and Sheri, and Connie and Sam took this sprint.
5. Which team was eliminated in London at the end of Leg 1?

Answer: Michael and Moe

Teams completed their Detour tasks and were told to find the Queen and Boris Johnson having a nosh at The Chipping Forecast, what they would find to be a pub in Soho, to find one last clue in the hands of two impersonators. This final bit of route info would send them to the race's first Pit Stop waiting for them inside the Natural History Museum. Anthony and Spencer took the lead on this leg, managing to check in first to claim a trip for two to Turks and Caicos courtesy of Travelocity. After getting passed on the way to the Pit Stop by Lulu and Lala, Michael and Moe checked in last and became the first team eliminated from the race.
6. For the race's first Road Block (found in Leg 2), team members travelled by which means to sort through mail in London?

Answer: Train

Teams opened their clues on an early day in London on Leg 2 of the race and were told to make their way to Mail Rail at the London Postal Museum. There, teams located the first Road Block to be found on this race course. For this challenge, one member of each duo had to hop on board the Mail Rail train and head to a specific loading dock where they could search through thousands of letters in a mail bin to find their next clue. Ryan, Raquel, Anthony, Penn, Ray, Connie, Arun, Sheri, Taylor, and Lulu delivered on this one.
7. Which of these London attractions did teams need to locate in Leg 2?

Answer: Leicester Square

Once team members found their "Amazing Race" mail during the Road Block, they needed to wait for the Mail Rail train to return to reunite with their partner and open the clue. The info inside would let them know that they would need to proceed by taxi to Leicester Square, commonly known as Theatre City. It was there that teams could find their Detour clue waiting.
8. Which team did not complete the 'Bullseye, Mate' Detour option, throwing darts in Leg 2?

Answer: Anthony and Spencer

Teams who left Leicester Square for the 'Bullseye, Mate' Detour option took a cab to Flight Club Shoreditch for a pint and a game of darts. Each team member would need to throw three darts and if both team members hit the bullseye in the same round, they would be given their next clue.
Ryan and Dusty, Arun and Natalia, and Connie and Sam were the only teams to head to this task-- and they did so quicker than those in the other Detour-- with others fearing that the accuracy would be their undoing.
9. The 'Decorate' Detour task that teams faced in London (in Leg 2) involved decorating cakes to look like which of these?

Answer: Flags

The 'Decorate' Detour option sent Raquel and Cayla, Anthony and Spencer, Caro and Ray, Kim and Penn, Akbar and Sheri, Taylor and Isaiah, and Lulu and Lala to Mange Catering where they needed to decorate two blank cakes. The catch was that they needed to decorate them to match two flag designs (of twelve provided) to reflect members of the European Union.

They would find that these flags, specifically, were those of France and Germany. Once both cakes were fully and properly covered, a baker would hand them their next clue.
10. No teams were eliminated at the end of Leg 2 in London, England.

Answer: True

Ending out the second leg of the race, teams were told to proceed to Russell Square Metro Station where they would be able to locate Phil on a red double-decker bus waiting outside. Ryan and Dusty swept through the leg, playing to their strengths, and maintained a strong lead all the way to the mat where they checked in first and, to their surprise, received another clue.

This meant that while Lulu and Lala placed last, they were spared by non-elimination as teams continued racing directly into Leg 3.
11. In Leg 3, teams took a train from London to what Scottish city?

Answer: Glasgow

Leaving Phil behind at the double-decker bus in London, teams were told to make their way to Euston Railway Station where they would be able to take the overnight sleeper train, four hundred miles north, to the Scottish city of Glasgow. Upon their arrival, teams could pick up their vehicle for this leg of the race, a manual transmission car, from the NCP Car Park at Glasgow Central Station, and inside the windscreen their next clue would be waiting.
12. The Scottish Road Block encountered in Leg 3 had team members create which of the following?

Answer: Bagpipes

Teams had to drive themselves across Glasgow, if they could manage, to the music hall known as Ňran Mór. There, teams opened a Road Block clue asking for the team member who 'had it in the bag'. Naturally, this meant team members had to contend with bagpipes in their native country.

The selected participant was required to join the Johnstone Pipe Band, assembling their own bagpipes before joining the musicians and sustaining a note through the entirety of a traditional pipe anthem. Kim, Spencer, Dusty, Lala, Natalia, Raquel, Sam, Caro, Isaiah, and Akbar completed this task.
13. Which team completed the 'Kilt' Detour task in Scotland in Leg 3?

Answer: Kim and Penn

Completing the Road Block, teams drove to the Saracen Fountain in Glasgow's Alexandra Park and, there, they found their Detour clues. In 'Kilt', teams needed to continue their musical journey through Glasgow by heading to the Britannia Panopticon Music Hall.

There, teams donned full highland dress and learned the words and dance to the song "Donald Where's Your Troosers?". If they could perform it note-perfect, they would receive their next clue. Kim and Penn, Lulu and Lala, Arun and Natalia, Akbar and Sheri, and Taylor and Isaiah completed this task.
14. The 'Rebuilt' Detour challenge, encountered in Leg 3, had teams reconstructing barrels used for which of these?

Answer: Whisky

Teams ready to remove themselves from the musical bent of Leg 3 could opt for the 'Rebuilt' task instead of 'Kilt' during their Detour. For this, they could drive themselves to Fishers Cooperage to join local barrel-makers in repairing whisky barrels. Working as coopers they needed to remove two metal hoops from two barrels, insert a new head into the barrel's croze, and then replace the hoops they'd removed. If the master coopers approved of their work, they would receive their next clue. Anthony and Spencer, Ryan and Dusty, Raquel and Cayla, Connie and Sam, and completed this challenge.
15. Which team was eliminated in Scotland at the end of Leg 3?

Answer: Arun and Natalia

Teams needed to drive themselves to the cloisters at the University of Glasgow to find Phil and their next Pit Stop when they finished their Detour tasks and they were told that the last team to arrive would be eliminated. Kim and Penn, who drove themselves to a sustained lead in this leg, arrived first to win a five-night trip for two to Cape Cod, Massachusetts courtesy of Travelocity while Arun and Natalia checked in last and sealed their fate.

Before teams were scheduled to commence Leg 4, Phil gathered them in the cloisters for a critical announcement. In light of the escalating COVID-19 pandemic, production would be suspended and all of the teams would be sent home. It would be a hiatus that would last nineteen months.
