Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The starting line for the race was held in Los Angeles, California.

Answer: False

For the first time in "The Amazing Race" (US) history, teams gathered together in a foreign city to start their race in full. The city of Munich, Germany played host this season, starting twelve teams off on a race around the world for one million dollars from the grounds of Nymphenburg Palace.

There, Phil informed the group of a few key pieces of information. First, their visit would be celebrating the activities of Oktoberfest with a Scramble; they could complete the tasks on the first leg in any order, receiving puzzle pieces that would lead them to the Pit Stop. Second-- for the first time in "The Amazing Race" history there would be no non-elimination legs of this race.

When teams received the word go, they could go to their bags, get their clues, hop in a car, and drive to any destination they chose. And with that, the race was on.
2. The 'Roll' challenge at Luitpold Park asked teams to complete an obstacle course with which of these?

Answer: Kegs

Teams proceeding to the north of Munich found the 'Roll' task at Luitpold Park. To get their puzzle piece clue here, they needed to work to roll a beer keg from one end of a slalom course to the other and back (with one racer doing the first half and the second doing the other). If teams could complete this course in under sixty seconds, they would get their next clue, but if they didn't, they would need to go to the back of the line.

The course at this station only had five lanes, so the challenge was first-come-first-serve for arriving teams.
3. The challenge found at Biergarten Seehaus was denoted with which single-word clue?

Answer: 'Saw'

Teams heading straight across Munich to the riverside would be able to locate the 'Saw' challenge at the Biergarten Seehaus and there they would have to work together with a two-man saw to complete a bit of physical labour. With this saw, racers would need to listen to local music and cut their logs in time to the beat of the songs being played. Once their log was cut, they could trade the piece to a local farmer for their puzzle piece.
4. The 'Smash' challenge at Augustiner-Keller Biergarten was actually which of these?

Answer: Road Block

Though teams could complete the Scramble tasks in any order, the 'Smash' challenge at the Augustiner-Keller Biergarten was a Road Block and the pairs still needed to choose one team member to complete the task. For this one, one racer 'needed to chill', implying they would need to use tools to free their expected puzzle piece from the center of a large block of ice. Molly, Luis, Glenda, Quinton, Nina, Tim, Marcus, Derek, Linton, Will, Rich, and David completed this task.
5. Which team was last to arrive at the Pit Stop in Munich at the end of Leg 1?

Answer: Aastha and Nina

Once teams had their puzzle pieces, they could combine them to create the shape of Friedensengel, a notable Munich landmark, and read off the instructions to ensure their proper arrival: "Park in one of the available marked parking spaces between 22 Widenmayerstraße and 25 Widenmayerstraße. To cross Luitpoldbrücke or Prinzregentenstraße, the cross-walk is located underground." If they took these instructions properly they would find Phil and the first Pit Stop mat.

Derek and Claire were the first to arrive on the mat, following all the instructions to Pit Stop and winning themselves $2,500 USD each for their successful scrambling. Last to land on the mat in this leg was Aastha and Nina and, because there were no non-elimination legs in this race, they were sent home in twelfth place.
6. In Leg 2, teams completed tasks in and around what Tyrolean city?

Answer: Innsbruck

Taking a departure format similar to the later legs of "The Amazing Race 33", eleven teams departed from the Pit Stop in groups based on the order they arrived at the mat in the previous leg, meaning three teams departed at 8:00am, four at 8:15am, and four at 8:30am. Ripping open their clues in front of the Friedensengel, teams were told to drive themselves ninety miles south into Austria towards Innsbruck. If they could find Grünwalderhof in the town of Patsch, they could find their next clue.
7. In Austria, team members completing the Road Block needed to learn how to yodel. How many distinct yodels did they need to complete?

Answer: Three

Arriving in Austria, teams found a Road Block clue waiting for them at Grünwalderhof. In the Alpine meadow there, both team members had to don Austrian outfits (to be worn for the rest of the leg) but one team member had to join local yodellers in learning and performing a series of three Alpine yodels with proper motions. If they could perform with the proper tone and pitch, they could receive their next clue and drive in to Innsbruck proper. Claire, Michael, Rex, Glenda, Linton, Emily, Dom, Aubrey, Abby, Michelle, and Mattie were selected for this task.
8. In the 'Bells Ringin'' Detour task in Leg 2, teams had to create music with Tyrolean bells. How many bells were they given?

Answer: Ten

Teams raced into Innsbruck to find a clue waiting for them in the city centre at Marktplatz, and when they opened their clues at the box on the river they found it was the race's first Detour challenge. Teams completing the 'Bells Ringin'' task needed to continue to Stiftskeller where, using a series of bells, they needed to create a traditional song with seven notes (and ten bells to make them), all indicated on provided sheet music. If they could properly perform "Tiroler Glockenklang" they would be handed their next clue.

This task was completed by Marcus and Michael, Rich and Dom, Derek and Claire, and Tim and Rex.
9. The 'Partners Swingin'' Detour, encountered in Austria in Leg 2, had teams doing which of these?

Answer: Dancing

Teams opting out of making more music for the Detour could instead go dancing. In 'Partners Swingin'', teams located the statue of Annasäule where they would be able to join local dancers in performing a couples' wedding dance. If they could learn the choreography complete with spins, slaps, and Schuhplattler while keeping in time with the accompanying live music, then they could get their next clue and keep racing. Glenda and Lumumba, Linton and Sharik, Abby and Will, Emily and Molly, Derek and Claire, Luis and Michelle, and Quinton and Mattie completed this challenge.
10. Which team was eliminated from the race in Austria at the end of Leg 2?

Answer: Tim and Rex

Once teams finished their Detour task they could make their way on foot to the second Pit Stop of the race inside the Hofburg Imperial Palace. There, inside the great hall, they could check in on the mat with Phil and hope to avoid an assured elimination. Marcus and Michael led the leg out of the Road Block and secured a first place win this time around and they won themselves Expedia Reward Points for a five night trip for two to Lima, Peru.

After racing through Innsbruck with the instruction to ensure they wore their provided Austrian outfits the whole way through, Rich and Dom failed to check into the Pit Stop with one of their hats, having left it in their car. They were required to return to their vehicle to retrieve it before checking in, dropping them to ninth place just in front of Quinton and Mattie. Despite the cheerleaders' navigation issues, it was Tim and Rex who fell behind, checking in last and getting sent home.
