Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The race's first Detour had teams dealing with music and culture in Innsbruck, Austria. Which of these didn't require that teams make the music?

Answer: 'Partners Swingin''

Both of these tasks, completed within Innsbruck, Austria's city centre, had teams wear traditional garb and engage with either musicians or dancers. The road-less-taken was 'Bells Ringin'' where teams learned how to use Tyrolean bells, shaking them to make the tune to the traditional folk song "Tiroler Glockenklang".

In 'Partners Swingin'', however, teams learned a traditional wedding dance, complete with Schuhplattler choreography, to get their next clue.
2. Three teams completed the 'Big Cheese' Detour task in Bologna, Italy during the first half of a Mega-Leg. Who of these was not amongst them?

Answer: Rich and Dom

Starting a Mega-Leg in Bologna, Italy at the beginning of Leg 3, ten teams proceeded to divide out at their Detour, choosing between 'Head of the Class' and 'The Big Cheese'. For the former, teams went back to school, learning an anatomy lesson at the University of Bologna and then completing a minute-and-a-half-long pop quiz on sixteen different bones, muscles, and organs. Three teams, however, completed the latter task for which they had to transport an 88-pound wheel of parmesan cheese from a fromaggeria to two restaurants.
3. Teams encountered a Detour in Florence to wrap up their Mega-Leg in Italy, but were both tasks completed by the same number of teams?

Answer: No

As there were ten teams racing through the third leg of the race, the Mega-Leg in Italy, there was a chance of even distribution, but four teams completed the 'Eye For Fashion' task and six completed 'Windows of Opportunity'. In both tasks, teams had to race to three destinations in Florence's city centre, but in the former task, teams had to have an eye for detail and a mind for memory, locating and recalling outfits worn at photo shoots at city landmarks, while in the latter teams had to find three specific restaurants to collect and deliver foods from their wine windows. Both tasks ended on the edge of the Arno River where teams could get their last clue and head to the Pit Stop.
4. Both Detour tasks in Leg 4 were completed while teams visited what location in the country of Jordan?

Answer: Petra

Though teams commenced their fourth leg in the Wadi Rum Desert they eventually made their way to the archaeological sites at Petra for the Detour and, there, they completed either a physical or a mentally-inclined task. The former, 'Camel Caravan', had teams racing through the local market to collect sacks of hay and jugs of water, both required to fill a feeding station for resting camels.

The latter, however, had teams working through a twelve-piece slide puzzle meant to recreate the facade of the Palace Tomb.

In either case, completion would allow them to race on foot to the next Pit Stop.
5. In the 'Letter By Letter' Detour task encountered in Leg 5, teams learned which of these alphabets in Amman, Jordan?

Answer: Arabic

All of Leg 5 was completed on foot by seven teams as they raced through Amman, Jordan, and part of this leg involved reaching one of two ancient theatres in the city and completing a Detour option.

At the Roman Theater teams found 'Step By Step' where they had to learn the choreography of a Jordanian flirt dance. David and Aubrey, Glenda and Lumumba, Quinton and Mattie, and Luis and Michelle finished this one.

At the Odeon Theater, Marcus and Michael, Emily and Molly, and Derek and Claire learned and recited the twenty-eight letters of the Arabic alphabet to get their next clue.
6. In Dordogne, France in Leg 6, teams crushed which of these to make oil for one of their Detour tasks?

Answer: Walnuts

Heading into a series of medieval-inspired tasks in the French region of Dordogne, teams stopped at the village of Domme in Leg 6 and chose either 'Walnut Cracker' or 'Medieval Gamer', the former of which had them race into a nearby walnut grove to collect walnuts, crush them, and press them into walnut oil. Most teams opted for this tedious task while only Derek and Claire and Glenda and Lumumba tried to eke ahead with the alternative task, completing a trio of medieval activities, to get their next clue.
7. Most teams racing through Toulouse, France in Leg 7 completed the 'Say Six' Detour task, which had them saying six of what?

Answer: Lines of poetry

Completing a series of tasks in the French city of Toulouse, teams ended off the leg with their Detour choice, selecting either 'Say Six' or 'Lay Bricks' depending on their preferences. Four teams chose the former task, which involved visiting the plaza and learning six total lines of a famous Victor Hugo poem that they would need to recite back to a local judge.

The other two teams aided bricklayers in repairing a street-side promenade, placing bricks in an intricate design to receive their next clue.
8. Racers completing either Detour task in Málaga in the first half of Leg 8 (their second Mega-Leg) received which of these as a reward?

Answer: A postcard

Leg 8 sent the final five teams on a Mega-Leg in the south of Spain and the first half of this two-part leg pushed them into a Detour at the Playa El Palo. While one team (Luis and Michelle) completed a delivery task on the Mediterranean ('Sailboat Supply'), the other four teams skewered and cooked sardines to make espetos ('Fish Fry').

In either case, the racers received a postcard instead of a formal clue as a reward to indicate that they would need to drive themselves to the town of Ronda.
9. All four of these teams completed the 'Dress for Success' Detour task in Ronda, Spain (in the Mega-Leg). Which team completed it first?

Answer: Luis and Michelle

The 'Dress for Success' Detour option was the more popular of the two, sending teams to a dance studio to help outfit a flamenco dancer for an upcoming performance. If they could identify her earrings, castanets, shawl, flowers, and clips while she made her movements, they could outfit their own dancer in the same way (by collecting the pieces from a nearby shop) to get their next clue. Marcus and Michael chose the second option, 'Bend over Backwards', which they could complete by building a Moorish arch at the town's Arab Baths.
10. There was no Detour task encountered in Iceland.

Answer: True

Teams' last Detour was faced in Spain, so in addition to not having a Detour when they visited Munich in Leg 1 (when they encountered the Scramble), teams did not have a Detour in either Leg 9 (Iceland) or Leg 10 (Nashville, Tennessee). This also marked the second season in a row not to feature the U-Turn in any way with the last one being seen pre-COVID in "The Amazing Race 32".

Despite these omissions, teams faced nine Detours in this race, several of which occurred during Mega-Legs.
