Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In Leg 6, teams departed the city of Amman, Jordan bound for what region of France?

Answer: Dordogne

Crossing back over the Mediterranean in Leg 6, teams left the Middle East headed for Dordogne, a castle and cliff-laden region in Southwestern France. Teams started this leg of the race departing in groups from the Château de Beynac in the village of Beynac-et-Cazenac, getting released onto this leg of the race in groups of two leaving fifteen minutes apart from one another. Glenda and Lumumba, who arrived at the previous Pit Stop in last place, were spared from elimination due to Abby and Will's COVID-19 diagnosis and as a result they left alone in last, forty-five minutes after the leading teams.
2. At the Château de Commarque, racers needed to memorize which of these for their Leg 6 Road Block?

Answer: Family crests

Seven teams collected clues from a terrace atop Château de Beynac and started on their ways, hopping into vehicles and driving themselves to their next stop, the Château de Commarque in Les Eyzies. Arriving there, teams ran through the woods and nabbed a clue on the path leading to the structure. For this Road Block, one team member needed to 'climb the family tree', and for the challenge, Michelle, Mattie, Michael, Emily, Derek, David, and Lumumba had to head into château and memorize an extensive family tree spanning twenty-two generations.

Then, racers had to rappel 131 feet to the bottom of the château to complete a memory test, identifying five names with their corresponding crests.
3. Which team did not complete the 'Walnut Cracker' Detour task in Leg 6?

Answer: Derek and Claire

Leaving their Road Block, teams drove themselves to La Ferme de Turnac in Domme to find their Detour clue box, and the first choice they had before them was a task titled 'Walnut Cracker'. For this, teams had to proceed to a nearby station and use a local method of harvesting walnut oil by simply cracking, grinding, and pressing the nuts to collect and bottle the critical liquid, filling a container to a specified line with walnuts grabbed from a marked area. Marcus and Michael, Emily and Molly, Luis and Michelle, Aubrey and David, and Quinton and Mattie completed this task.
4. How many different games did teams need to complete to get their clue for the 'Medieval Gaming' Detour in Leg 6?

Answer: Three

In the 'Medieval Gaming' task, teams needed to complete a trio of challenges in order to collect their next clue. Joining locals, racers had to work together to coordinate a ball-and-board game, execute a dextrous sack toss, and balance rocks on a suspended disk. Teams could complete all three tasks in any order of their choosing, and once they finished them all successfully, they could receive their next clue. Derek and Claire and Glenda and Lumumba completed this task before departing.
5. Which team was eliminated at the panoramic lookout at the end of Leg 6?

Answer: Glenda and Lumumba

Once racers finished their Detour tasks, they received one last clue and proceeded by vehicle and on foot to a nearby panoramic lookout with views of the Dordogne River valley below. Marcus and Michael managed to retake the lead in this leg due to their impeccable navigation skills, collecting $7,500 USD each as a prize. It was their second win of the race.

Though Aubrey and David struggled to locate the Pit Stop, Glenda and Lumumba, already in the back of the pack at the start of the leg, managed to get their vehicle stuck in a ditch. They couldn't make up that lost ground and they were eliminated in seventh place.
6. Leg 7 kept teams in France but it brought them to what city?

Answer: Toulouse

After staying the night wherever they wanted in the town of Domme (thanks to the Travelocity app), teams awakened on the day of the seventh leg of the race and resumed the course from the panorama overlooking the Dordogne River in Southwestern France.

Their first challenge would be to navigate out of the Dordogne region and drive themselves to the city of Toulouse, one hundred miles to the south. Teams departed from the previous Pit Stop in groups of two leaving fifteen minutes apart.
7. The Road Block teams encountered in Leg 7 required that teams participate in which sporting event?

Answer: Rugby

Arriving in Toulouse, teams found a Road Block task waiting for them at the Stade Toulousain and this one required that someone 'take one for the team'. For this task, the selected team member joined the country's pro women's rugby team in a drill. On a whistle they had to run, roll, pick up a ball, pass it, catch it, and score a drop kick to receive their next clue. If they could perform the whole set of tasks they could receive their next clue. Molly, Luis, Claire, Marcus, Aubrey, and Quinton participated in this challenge.
8. Teams completing the 'Say Six' Detour task in Leg 7 were required to recite lines written by which French poet?

Answer: Victor Hugo

Leaving the Road Block, teams had to drive themselves through Toulouse to Couvent des Jacobins where a man playing a French horn in the building's cloisters would give over their Detour clue. The first of these options was 'Say Six', which sent them to Place Saint-Sernin.

In this plaza, racers would find three different people reciting verses of Victor Hugo's poem "Demain dès l'aube". If the racers could recite the poem to a judge in full they could receive their next clue. Most teams completed this task with Derek and Claire, Marcus and Michael, Aubrey and David, and Quinton and Mattie getting poetic.
9. Teams who didn't complete the 'Say Six' Detour task in Leg 7 had which other option to face instead?

Answer: 'Lay Bricks'

Teams who wanted to lean less on their memories could opt for a physical task for their Toulouse Detour if they so chose. In 'Lay Bricks', Luis and Michelle and Emily and Molly travelled to the Promenade du Docteur Charles Rose to assist local workers in repairing a brick path. If they could lay the bricks in their complex design and prepare workers to cement them in place, they would be handed their next clue.
10. Which team was eliminated from the race in sixth place at the end of Leg 7?

Answer: Quinton and Mattie

If teams could maneuver through their Detour tasks then all that remained to be seen was the seventh Pit Stop of the race and teams could fund it if they could locate the Canal de Brienne, part of the Canal du Midi. If teams could locate the boat named Pays d'Oc on its waters, they could find Phil and the Pit Stop and face their fate. Derek and Claire tightened their abilities to claim first place in this leg, their first time since the race's first leg in Germany.

The pair won Expedia Reward Points to send them on a five-night trip for two to Bangkok. Quinton and Mattie remained in last throughout the leg and were last to check in at the Pit Stop.

It meant elimination, leaving only five teams.
