Starting the penultimate leg of the race in the morning in Dubrovnik, Croatia, teams needed to catch a flight to the Argentine capital, Buenos Aires. Upon landing, they needed to locate a cab and take a trip to a polo ranch in Lujan known as Estancia Las Bétulas. There, they would find their next clue. All four teams ended up flying to Argentina, thousands and thousands of kilometers southwest from Croatia, on the same flight arriving the next morning.

Answer: Lisbon

Leaving Kostroma, teams waiting to start the seventh leg of the race were transported to the Church of the Holy Trinity at the Borisovo Ponds in Moscow to receive their first clue of the leg. Daniel and Ryan, who used their Salvage Pass to grant themselves an hour's head start, were first to discover that the race would be taking them to Lisbon, Portugal. Upon arriving in Lisbon, teams had to make their way to the Torre de Belem where they were required to learn the Portuguese song Fado do Cansaço.

Answer: Saint Petersburg

Starting Leg 5, six teams departed from their fourth Pit Stop in the middle of the Na'an Kuse Wildlife Sanctuary in Windhoek, Namibia and made their way to the airport, catching the next flight fourteen thousand miles northbound to Saint Petersburg, Russia. Upon their arrival, they had to make their way by taxi to the Battleship Aurora docked on the Neva River. The Road Block clue waited for them on shore in front of the cruiser.

Leaving the second Pit Stop of the race at Baphuon Temple in Siem Reap, Cambodia, teams were told to take a taxi to the Thai border where they would need to cross on foot, then take a bus to their next destination, the capital city of Bangkok. When teams reached their stop, Now Travel in Bangkok, they would receive their next clue informing them that they would need to book a flight southbound to Krabi, a town on the southwest coast of the country, where they would need to visit the Golden Beach Resort Massage Parlour in Ao Nang and choose a massage to receive.

Answer: Sheep

Murray, Carla, Emily, Daniel, Todd, Jesse, Aston, Jarrod, Tiharna, and Tyson were required to complete their first Road Block task in the mountain pastures of New Zealand's South Island. At Rata Peaks Station, they needed to hop into a tractor and transport four bales of hay through a slalom course. When this was done they needed to hop into a sheep pen and collect the second half of a ring which would lead them to their first Pit Stop by locating it on the neck of a sheep.

For the first time on "The Amazing Race", two nations would go head-to-head to compete to win. Five teams from Australia and five teams from New Zealand gathered at the starting line, deep in the Australian Outback at the world-famous Uluru (Ayers Rock) to begin their journey around the globe. Notably, the two nations were split at the starting line to indicate a divide between the racing nations. The single winning team would win the $250,000 prize. Grant gave the word and the race was on.

Answer: Horses

Reaching the polo club in Argentina, teams found the Road Block waiting for them. In this challenge, one member of each team needed to be selected and they needed to 'horse around'. For this, they had to direct a horse and carriage to a marked part of the ranch, then saddle and dress their specific horse to prepare it for a polo match. When they did so to the approval of a rancher they could get their next clue. Sally, Daniel, Ashleigh, and Carla completed this task.

Answer: Semaphore

Arriving at the Battleship Aurora early in the morning, teams located their Road Block clue waiting for them. For this task, one member of each team needed to 'crack the code', and in doing so, learn how to read semaphore flag signals. The task involved properly identifying the message being given, but to do so, participants had to figure out the Cyrillic letters and write them out. Murray, Jarrod, Hereni, Ryan, Sally, and Cat completed this task, determining their message. They received a photo of their next destination as a result.

Answer: Murray

Neither John nor Murray completed this Road Block as they had instead opted to use their Express Pass won in the previous leg of the race. The other teams, meanwhile, had to choose one member to count monks in Angkor Wat's main courtyard who were wearing red and yellow prayer beads. Then, they had to ascend the temple and give the answer to one of two monks, one of whom would give the clue if they gave twenty-six as the answer, and one who would not, even if they were correct. Sally, Ashleigh, Ryan, Elizabeth, Jesse, Jono, Christie, and Hereni mastered this one.

Answer: New Zealand & NZ

While Grant informed the teams that they could start the race on his go-ahead, they did not immediately head to the clues waiting on top of their backpacks. At the starting line, the teams were directed to a nearby game of tug of war; the Aussies stood on one side and the Kiwis on the other. The winning team was the one to pull the opposing team's flag over the line, and they would get a head start of ten minutes heading out from the starting line. Ultimately, the New Zealand teams won.

After the Road Block, teams needed to travel by taxi to Buenos Aires' most dramatic bookstore, the former theater of El Ateneo Grand. Upon their arrival, they would be able to locate their Detour clues, a choice between 'Tango' and 'Tribute', In 'Tango', teams needed to go to Pasaje de la Defensa to learn how to dance the tango. In 'Tribute', however, teams had to follow a scavenger hunt led by clues found in books and around the city, ultimately ending at the grave of Evita Peron in Recoleta Cemetery. Sally and Tyson and Daniel and Ryan completed 'Tribute'; Ashleigh and Jarrod and Carla and Hereni completed 'Tango'.

Answer: One

In 'Dry', teams needed to collect a washing basket from a lady in the town square, then locate an item of clothing suspended on the washing lines throughout the streets marked with the name of their particular lady. When they returned both items to their waiting woman, they would receive their next clue. Ashleigh and Jarrod attempted this task, but switched back to 'Wet'. When the Detour was completed, teams were instructed to make their way to the Museu do Fado to find marked convertibles with which they could drive to Fisherman's Beach in Cascais and their next clues.

Answer: John and Murray

After completing the Detour task, teams were told to make their way along the sands to East Railay Beach where they would be able to receive their next clue, but not before encountering the only U-Turn of the race. Already in the lead, John and Murray opted to use the U-Turn to their advantage, putting back Sally and Tyson and forcing them to complete the 'Drill Down' task that they'd originally opted not to complete.

Answer: Thailand

In Leg 3, teams headed to the beautiful destination of Krabi, Thailand, specifically to East Railay Beach and Chicken Island for their Road Block. In this task, one member of each team needed to hop into the water and search the sea floor in a marked area for golden clams. Some of these clams would contain a pearl which would contain their next clue while others would not. After Murray, Emily, Ryan, Sally, Ashleigh, Carla, Cat, and Aston completed this task, the teams could head to the third Pit Stop.

Answer: Sally and Tyson

Reaching Krabi, Thailand in Leg 3, teams needed to make their way, eventually, to Phra Nang Beach to complete either 'Climb Up', a rigorous rock climb up a cliff face, or 'Drill Down', which required drilling into coconuts to collect the juices inside. Following the task, teams were informed of a U-Turn ahead and John and Murray ended up using it to turn Sally and Tyson around. As such, the team had to complete both 'Climb Up' and 'Drill Down' to continue to their Road Block task.

Answer: Christchurch

After the tug of war, teams needed to fly to Christchurch, New Zealand (via Sydney) on one of two flights and then take a taxi to the Cardboard Cathedral. Upon their arrival they could pull a departure time ticket from a table inside leaving at 8:00am, 8:15am, or 8:30am. The following morning, teams were told to locate the marked cars nearby and drive themselves to the Rangitata River in Geraldine to find a rafting center, one hundred fifty kilometers south. After completing a grade five rapid course they would receive half of a "Lord of the Rings-esque" ring and their next clue.

Answer: Intersection

Completing the Detour, teams were instructed to make their way to the Taleon Imperial Hotel in Saint Petersburg where they were met with the race's sole Intersection. Here, teams had to pair up together to complete a task in the Imperial Ballroom. For this, one member of each team needed to enter a laser-filled vault together to retrieve a guarded Fabrege egg. When they were able to maneuver themselves through the room to collect the item awaiting them, they could continue on. Daniel and Ryan paired with Sally and Tyson, John and Murray paired with Ashleigh and Jarrod, and Carla and Hereni paired with Cat and Jesse.

Answer: Clams

After reaching the U-Turn, teams were able to begin their Road Block task which asked 'who was ready to clam up'. In this task, the selected team member needed to hop into a longtail boat and ride out to Chicken Island. Once there they needed to dive into the waters of the Andaman Sea and search the sea floor for a golden clam which would contain their next clue in its pearl. Not all of the clams contained a pearl, of course. Murray, Emily, Ryan, Sally, Ashleigh, Carla, Cat, and Aston completed this task.

Answer: Animal parts

At the Na'an Kuse Wildlife Sanctuary, team members received their Road Block clues after a walk with the baboons, and one member of each team was told that they would need to get knee-and-elbow-deep in piles of animal entrails to get their next clue. The task was simple: create a meal for a pride of lions by separating and preparing rib shanks and a bucket of proper bodily organs and bringing them to the enclosure in a wheelbarrow. John, Jarrod, Jesse, Tyson, Jono, Carla, and Daniel completed this task before receiving their next clue.

Answer: Tractor

Completing their river rapid course, teams were instructed to drive twenty-one kilometers to Rata Peaks Station to find their first Road Block of the race. There, one member of each team needed to get 'better traction'. The selected member needed to use a tractor to pass through a slalom course and collect four bales of hay, reversing through to place it in a marked spot. When this was done, they could search a sheep pen to find the matching half of their ring around the collar of a sheep. Murray, Carla, Emily, Daniel, Todd, Jesse, Aston, Jarrod, Tiharna, and Tyson completed this task.

Answer: Carla and Hereni

Arriving on the Pit Stop mat in The Tigre Club, the first team to arrive in this leg, for their first time during the race, was Ashleigh and Jarrod. As a result they ended up winning a trip for two courtesy of Virgin Australia Holidays to the island of Bali, Indonesia for a eight-day stay in a five-star destination. They also won themselves a spot in the final three racing for the grand prize. After falling behind at the start of the Detour, it was Carla and Hereni, the last Kiwi team standing in the race, who arrived in last place by rowing the wrong way down the river to the Pit Stop. They were the final eliminated team, placing fourth.

Answer: Ashleigh and Jarrod

After the Road Block task, teams needed to make their way to the next Pit Stop at the Pena National Palace in Sintra, Portugal. Daniel and Ryan were the first team to arrive for a second leg in a row and this time they won themselves two Business Class tickets to the city of Abu Dhabi for use after the race. After failing to get their act together during the Detour, Ashleigh and Jarrod ended up arriving in last place. They were, however, spared by the first and only non-elimination leg of the race.

Answer: Cat and Jesse

Completing the intersected task at the Imperial Ballroom, teams found their final clue of the leg in their jewelled eggs sending them to their next Pit Stop, the Church of the Saviour on Spilled Blood. The first team to arrive was John and Murray who took their third victory of the race, this time taking with them a reward that would affect them going into the sixth leg-- first class train tickets for themselves and the team of their choice wherever they would go next. Cat and Jesse arrived in last, but all of the teams were told to keep racing-- there was no rest going into Leg 6 and no elimination.

Answer: Aston and Christie

After the Road Block, teams needed to hop back into their boats and travel across the water and a beach to the third Pit Stop of the race, Koh Poda. Winning their second leg of the race, John and Murray ended up winning a trip for two to anywhere in Europe courtesy of Virgin and Etihad Airways with an additional $5,000. In the end, after a leg of bickering, Aston and Christie were unable to overtake any of the other teams and they were eliminated in eighth place.

Answer: Inga and Tiharna

After the Road Block, teams ended up connecting their ring pieces and being directed to the first Pit Stop of the race, a valley directly west in the Southern Alps. Proceeding by car and then on foot, teams could step on the mat to avoid the first elimination. John and Murray were the first team to arrive at the Pit Stop winning two Virgin Australia tickets to and from Los Angeles. In addition they ended up collecting two Express Passes-- one for themselves (to use before the end of Leg 5) and one for another team (to give out before the end of Leg 3). In the end, Inga and Tiharna were the last team to arrive, having forgotten the first half of their ring at the river rafting site and were forced to go back to get it. They were eliminated.

Answer: Los Angeles

Starting the final leg of the race, teams headed out from Tigre, Argentina and headed to the airport to fly to LAX in Los Angeles, California in the United States. Teams had to search the car park for marked Mustangs and then drive themselves to the Hollywood Walk of Fame. There, they needed to take Polaroid photos with three different movie lookalikes, all of whom were portrayed by famous Australian actors. When they had the photos taken and approved at Ray's Photo Lab they could get their next clue.

Answer: Daniel and Ryan

In Leg 8, teams left Portugal and flew east to the city of Dubrovnik on the Adriatic Sea in Croatia. Upon arriving, teams needed to make their way to Ploča Gate where they had to carry large stones up to the Watchman's Keep. Upon arriving, what teams didn't know was that they needed to count the stairs they took to reach the guard with their clue. They needed to get that number right to get a clue sending them to the Old Harbour. There, the next morning, teams found the only Fast Forward clue of the race, allowing one team (Daniel and Ryan) to skip all tasks and head directly to the Pit Stop. They did so, but only by shaving their heads to get Friar Tuck haircuts at a Dominican Monastery. They placed third at the Pit Stop.

Answer: Train

Teams arriving at the Church of the Saviour on Spilled Blood were told to continue racing immediately, this time taking the Trans-Siberian Express to the city of Kostroma. Upon their arrival, teams needed to locate the Museum of Wooden Architecture to find their next clue. Because all teams reached the train station at the same time of day, all six remaining pairs arrived at the same time in Kostroma. John and Murray used their reward to allow Ashleigh and Jarrod to share first class. Arriving at the museum, teams had a unique nation versus nation task in which the Aussie teams battled against the Kiwi teams. Each team had to choose a Babushka doll and, working as three teams of two, find all of the dolls in each set hidden in five wooden houses. When the groups collectively returned the three sets they could all continue racing. The Aussie trio won this one.

At the start of Leg 4, teams headed out from their Pit Stop in Krabi, Thailand and were told to make their way to the southwest coast of Africa, specifically to Windhoek, the capital of Namibia. Upon arriving at the airport, they would be able to find marked four-wheel drive vehicles with their clues on the windshield. Upon arriving on the same flight, all seven teams drove themselves into the savannah to the Na'an Kuse Wildlife Sanctuary.

Arriving at the Road Block in the forests outside of Kostroma, Russia, team members had the opportunity to go dogsledding in the wilderness. For this task, one member of each team had to hold on and balance themselves as a pack of dogs pulled them along a marked slalom course. When they crossed the finish line of the track they could collect their next clue and take a taxi to the sixth Pit Stop on the Volga River. Daniel, Ashleigh, Tyson, Jesse, Carla, and John completed this task.
