Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In Leg 3, teams traveled to Thailand, eventually making their way to what Southern Thai town?

Answer: Krabi

Leaving the second Pit Stop of the race at Baphuon Temple in Siem Reap, Cambodia, teams were told to take a taxi to the Thai border where they would need to cross on foot, then take a bus to their next destination, the capital city of Bangkok. When teams reached their stop, Now Travel in Bangkok, they would receive their next clue informing them that they would need to book a flight southbound to Krabi, a town on the southwest coast of the country, where they would need to visit the Golden Beach Resort Massage Parlour in Ao Nang and choose a massage to receive.
2. In the 'Drill Down' Detour task in Thailand in Leg 3, teams needed to drill into which of these?

Answer: Coconuts

After their 'relaxing' massages, some of which took significantly longer than others, teams were given their Detour tasks, a choice between 'Climb Up' and 'Drill Down'. For both, teams headed to Phra Nang Beach by longtail boat. In 'Climb Up', both members needed to climb a sheer rock face to collect one race flag each, and trade them for the next clue.

In 'Drill Down', teams had to use a hand drill to collect coconut juice and fill a container with the contents. John and Murray, Sally and Tyson, Daniel and Ryan, Carla and Hereni, and Ashleigh and Jarrod chose 'Climb Up' while Emily and Jono, Cat and Jesse, and Aston and Christie chose 'Drill Down'.
3. Which team used the only U-Turn of the race in Thailand in Leg 3?

Answer: John and Murray

After completing the Detour task, teams were told to make their way along the sands to East Railay Beach where they would be able to receive their next clue, but not before encountering the only U-Turn of the race. Already in the lead, John and Murray opted to use the U-Turn to their advantage, putting back Sally and Tyson and forcing them to complete the 'Drill Down' task that they'd originally opted not to complete.
4. What did team members need to locate on the bottom of the sea in the Road Block (in Leg 3 in Thailand)?

Answer: Clams

After reaching the U-Turn, teams were able to begin their Road Block task which asked 'who was ready to clam up'. In this task, the selected team member needed to hop into a longtail boat and ride out to Chicken Island. Once there they needed to dive into the waters of the Andaman Sea and search the sea floor for a golden clam which would contain their next clue in its pearl.

Not all of the clams contained a pearl, of course. Murray, Emily, Ryan, Sally, Ashleigh, Carla, Cat, and Aston completed this task.
5. Which team was eliminated in Thailand at the end of Leg 3?

Answer: Aston and Christie

After the Road Block, teams needed to hop back into their boats and travel across the water and a beach to the third Pit Stop of the race, Koh Poda. Winning their second leg of the race, John and Murray ended up winning a trip for two to anywhere in Europe courtesy of Virgin and Etihad Airways with an additional $5,000.

In the end, after a leg of bickering, Aston and Christie were unable to overtake any of the other teams and they were eliminated in eighth place.
6. Commencing Leg 4, teams flew to what African nation?

Answer: Namibia

At the start of Leg 4, teams headed out from their Pit Stop in Krabi, Thailand and were told to make their way to the southwest coast of Africa, specifically to Windhoek, the capital of Namibia. Upon arriving at the airport, they would be able to find marked four-wheel drive vehicles with their clues on the windshield. Upon arriving on the same flight, all seven teams drove themselves into the savannah to the Na'an Kuse Wildlife Sanctuary.
7. In Leg 4, team members completing the Road Block in the African wilderness made a meal for which of these animals?

Answer: Lions

Arriving at the Na'an Kuse Wildlife Sanctuary, teams needed to gather two young baboons and walk them down a marked trail to a park attendant to receive their Road Block clue. In this task, teams needed to choose one person with 'a healthy appetite', and that selected person had to prepare two buckets of lion feed, dividing the portion between larger ribs and other entrails as per an example provided.

The task was attempted by John, Jarrod, Jesse, Tyson, Jono, Carla, and Daniel.
8. Which team used an Express Pass in Africa in Leg 4?

Answer: Carla and Hereni

While participating in the Road Block in the Na'an Kuse Wildlife Sanctuary, Carla and Hereni decided to use the Express Pass, skipping over the lion feeding task when it became apparent that they were falling behind. As such they were able to move directly to their next task. Following the Road Block, teams needed to visit a bush school outside of Windhoek in order to learn a song in the local San language with some schoolchildren. If they performed it correctly they could continue on.
9. In the 'Poo' Detour task in Leg 4, where did teams need to put the aforementioned poo?

Answer: In their mouths

After the song and dance lesson, teams needed to ride a donkey and cart to a nearby bushmen village to commence their Detour task, a choice between 'Pipe' and 'Poo'. In 'Pipe', teams had to use a traditional method of starting a fire in order to light the pipe of the village chief.

In 'Poo', teams instead had to join in a game of bokdrool, a game in which they had to put dried dung in their mouths and spit it across a distance of eight meters. Both team members needed to cross the line twice to get the clue. All teams completed 'Poo' except Emily and Jono.
10. Which team was eliminated in Africa at the end of Leg 4?

Answer: Emily and Jono

Following the Detour, teams were told to head to their next Pit Stop on foot-- they had to find the Na'an Kuse watering hole. Carla and Hereni, far enough ahead that they didn't see any other teams after using their Express Pass to skip the Road Block, ended up winning this leg of the race in addition to 500,000 Velocity Virgin Australia Frequent Flyer Points.

In the end, Daniel and Ryan overcame nearly an hour of falling behind to beat Emily and Jono to the mat. Emily and Jono were, thus, eliminated from the race.
