Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In Leg 1, ten teams raced to the Southern Alps in what nation?

Answer: New Zealand

For their first leg, the ten participating teams headed out from Uluru in Australia and headed southeast to the island nation of New Zealand, the home country of half the racers. Landing in Christchurch, the teams needed to partake in a series of tasks taking them through the beautiful mountains of the South Island and through the Canterbury Region. One task took teams on grade five rapids while another asked team members to chase down sheep in a pen.

The end of the leg took all ten duos to the Pit Stop in a pasture between the mountains.
2. In Leg 2, teams visited Siem Reap, Cambodia to complete a Road Block task at what famous landmark?

Answer: Angkor Wat

The second leg of the race allowed nine teams to leave Oceania behind for Southeast Asia, dropping them off in the hot climate of Cambodia. In this leg of the race, teams got to visit the ancient ruins of Angkor Wat for the Road Block and the waters of Tonlé Sap for their first Detour task. Upon arriving in Cambodia, they also had the chance to indulge in a local delicacy-- fried tarantulas.

By the time they left Cambodia, only eight teams remained.
3. Which of these tasks did teams not find on the beaches of Southern Thailand in Leg 3?

Answer: Intersection

In Leg 3, teams raced in taxis, on foot, by bus, in planes, and aboard boats as they crossed from Cambodia into Thailand, stopping off in Siem Reap, Bangkok, and, finally, Krabi. This time around, teams participated in a series of tasks taking place on the beautiful beaches.

A Detour gave a choice between a tough rock climb and opening coconuts while the Road Block sent one team member snorkelling off Chicken Island. A U-Turn on East Railay Beach also caused a bit of a stir, particularly because John and Murray used it on another front-running team with no provocation.
4. During Leg 4, teams completed tasks in the Na'an Kuse Wildlife Sanctuary in Namibia. Which animals did they get to handle directly?

Answer: Baboons

Flying from Thailand to Namibia, teams took nearly the entirety of their fourth leg to the African savannah, completing a series of tasks around animals and the local bushpeople. Upon arriving, teams handled baboons on a trek to their Road Block, one member of each team fed lions, from a distance, in their enclosure, and they checked into the Pit Stop at a watering hole.

In addition to this, teams got to learn a local song with tribal schoolchildren.
5. In Leg 6, teams raced on Trans-Siberian Railway from Saint Petersburg to what other Russian city?

Answer: Kostroma

Leg 5 sent teams from Southern Africa to the wintery landscape of Saint Petersburg, Russia. After an intense fifth leg of the race, teams arrived at the Church of the Saviour on Spilled Blood to find that the sixth leg would begin immediately, with no rest, as they would be taking the Trans-Siberian Railway from Saint Petersburg to Kostroma, much closer to the capital city of Moscow.

In this sixth leg, consistent front-runners John and Murray met their end by placing last; Daniel and Ryan had the opportunity to save them, but decided to hold onto their Salvage Pass instead.
6. Heading to Portugal in Leg 7, teams needed to perform which of the following in front of the Torre de Belem?

Answer: A song

Teams flew from Moscow, Russia to Lisbon, the capital city of Portugal, in Leg 7, arriving late at night and making their way to the Torre de Belem. There, using an MP3 player and lyrics, both team members had to memorize a traditional Fado duet to be performed in front of a music instructor.

When they correctly sang the song they could continue racing. The rest of the leg took teams deeper into the city the next day and ended with a non-elimination point-- the only official one of the race.
7. What city was visited by the final five teams in Leg 8?

Answer: Dubrovnik

In Leg 8, teams made their way to the Adriatic Sea and spent their time completing challenges in and around Dubrovnik, Croatia. Arriving at night, the teams had a physical and mental exercise before an overnight stay in the Old Harbour. Ashleigh and Jarrod completed a Speed Bump while Daniel and Ryan took the Fast Forward. Meanwhile, teams on the route rappelled down Fort Bokar and ascended up Fort St. John before checking in at the Pit Stop. Cat and Jesse were eliminated this leg.
8. One of the Detour tasks in the race's penultimate leg took teams to La Recoleta to find the grave of what famous Argentine?

Answer: Eva Peron

Teams headed to South America for the first time in "The Amazing Race Australia" by flying to Buenos Aires in the penultimate leg. Most of this leg of the race ended up sending teams around the city in dense traffic, frustrating them a great deal as they visited famous landmarks or learned the tango at a local dance hall. La Recoleta was only visited by Sally and Tyson and Daniel and Ryan as they completed the 'Tribute' Detour task.
9. In the final leg of the race, teams needed to identify Aussie actors in what area of Los Angeles?

Answer: Hollywood

Flying to Los Angeles in Leg 10, the final three teams needed to drive themselves to Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood proper to take photos with lookalikes dressed as Australian actors (some of which included Wolverine, Thor, and Crocodile Dundee). Following this, teams had a quick stop-off at Pink's Hot Dogs for a bite to eat before returning to the airport and heading back to Australia.
10. The finish line, found in Australia in Leg 10, was which of the following locations?

Answer: Loch Ard Gorge

In the end of the race, teams headed back to Melbourne and then traveled from Great Otway National Park to the Twelve Apostles in Port Campbell. Racing around the national park there, it was Daniel and Ryan who ended up stepping on the Finish Line at Loch Ard Gorge in first place, winning the $250,000 grand prize and becoming the winners of the third "Amazing Race Australia".

They were followed by Sally and Tyson in second place and Ashleigh and Jarrod in third.
