Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The first leg of the race (in New Zealand) did not feature a Detour task.

Answer: True

In the first leg of the race, the ten teams heading into the game ended up flying from Australia to New Zealand. While they ended up finding their first Road Block in the Canterbury Region of New Zealand, there was no Detour to be found in the entirety of the first leg. There would, however, be a Detour to be experienced in Cambodia in the next leg of the race.
2. In Leg 2, teams had the opportunity to catch which of the following on Cambodia's Tonlé Sap?

Answer: Shrimp

Diving into the second leg of the race in Cambodia, teams had their first Detour task presenting a choice between 'Shrimp' and 'Shoot'. While only Emily and Jono completed 'Shrimp', several tried and failed to do so; the teams had to take a boat onto the lake and use a net to catch 750 grams of shrimp to get their next clue.

Instead, the other eight teams went to a floating village to level a pool table, then sink five balls against a local pool shark to collect their next clue.
3. Which team was U-Turned in Leg 3 and, thus, forced to complete both sides of the Detour in Thailand?

Answer: Sally and Tyson

Reaching Krabi, Thailand in Leg 3, teams needed to make their way, eventually, to Phra Nang Beach to complete either 'Climb Up', a rigorous rock climb up a cliff face, or 'Drill Down', which required drilling into coconuts to collect the juices inside. Following the task, teams were informed of a U-Turn ahead and John and Murray ended up using it to turn Sally and Tyson around.

As such, the team had to complete both 'Climb Up' and 'Drill Down' to continue to their Road Block task.
4. The team that was eliminated in Leg 4 (in Namibia) was the only one to complete which of these Detour options?

Answer: 'Pipe'

The team in question was Emily and Jono, who switched from the 'Poo' Detour task to the 'Pipe' task. In 'Poo', teams needed to play bokdrool in which they spit dung pellets across an eight meter stretch. In 'Pipe', they instead had to light a fire to, in turn, light a tribal chief's pipe to get their clue. Emily and Jono built their fire, but Jono's legs cramped during and after the task, keeping them in last place and allowing Daniel and Ryan to pull ahead, saving them from elimination.
5. During the Detour task in Saint Petersburg in Leg 5, teams were Intersected.

Answer: False

While teams did meet with an Intersection in this leg of the race in one of Russia's largest cities, they did not collaborate at it until after the Detour, actually a choice between 'Cossack' and 'Coat Rack' in Beloselsky-Belozersky Palace. John and Murray, Ashleigh and Jarrod, and Carla and Hereni completed the former in which they learned a traditional cossack dance. Daniel and Ryan, Sally and Tyson, and Cat and Jesse completed the latter, searching for a missing coat tag on a ring of three hundred and then finding it missing in the pocket of a jacket in coat check.
6. In Kostroma, Russia in Leg 6, teams had to complete their Detour task in what setting?

Answer: Forest

Heading into the woods around Kostroma, Russia, teams had to complete either 'Boil' or 'Build'. All three Aussie teams headed into 'Boil' in which they had to fill a large kettle basin with water to a marked line and set a fire beneath it. When both of these requirements were fulfilled, they had to hop in and submerge themselves to get their clue.

In 'Build', teams needed to build a wall of firewood as per traditional methods. When the Kiwi teams completed this and the structure stayed intact they could continue on with the race.
7. Which team was the only one to attempt the 'Dry' Detour task found in Leg 7?

Answer: Ashleigh and Jarrod

In Lisbon, Portugal in Leg 7, teams headed into the labyrinthine streets of the city to complete either 'Wet' or 'Dry'. In 'Wet', teams needed to visit an Agitagueda art festival and count yellow umbrellas suspended amongst other colours above the streets.

When they counted out two hundred ninety-seven they could complete the task. In 'Dry', teams had to search clotheslines for one article of clothing with a specific name on it. Although Ashleigh and Jarrod tried to complete 'Dry', they ultimately completed 'Wet' with everyone else.
8. There was no Detour task in Dubrovnik, Croatia in Leg 8.

Answer: True

The five teams racing through Dubrovnik were met with a Fast Forward and two Road Block tasks, quite unlike the other legs encountered in the race, but there was no Detour task to be found. In fact, in the final three legs of the race, only one Detour task was encountered; it happened in Argentina in Leg 9.

This means that in ten legs of the race, only seven Detours were actually encountered.
9. Teams completing the 'Tribute' Detour task in Leg 9 in Argentina did not need to complete what alternate option?

Answer: 'Tango'

Teams had a choice, arriving at El Atineo Grand, between 'Tribute' and 'Tango'. In 'Tribute', teams traveled to La Bombonera, the stadium of Diego Maradona, answered a trivia question about the soccer player, then headed off to find Evita Peron's grave in La Recoleta, the largest cemetery in Buenos Aires. Sally and Tyson and Daniel and Ryan solved these puzzles. Meanwhile, in 'Tango', Ashleigh and Jarrod and Carla and Hereni went to Pasaje de la Defensa and learned how to perform a complex tango.
10. How many Double U-Turns did teams encounter on the race course?

Answer: None

While teams encountered a single U-Turn in Thailand in Leg 3 of the race, there were no Double U-Turns to be found on the entire race course. The only team to be U-Turned during the entire race was Sally and Tyson; they were U-Turned by John and Murray.

In this race, teams encountered only seven Detours in ten legs.
