Vic, having unique control over his own program, was designed as an interactive hologram with keen powers of observation and discernment, able to advise the lovelorn, cheer up the mourner, and counsel any troubled patron. He soon becomes a friend to nearly everyone. His musical stylings greatly influenced by Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin, Vic Fontaine was brought to life by actor/singer James Darren in the final two seasons of "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine."

11. Which actor played Garak on "Star Trek: Deep Space 9"?

From Quiz Plain, Simple Garak

Answer: Andrew Robinson

Andrew Robinson was born in New York and started his acting career in the 1960s. As was often the case after talking to Garak, Bashir was left speechless.

13. Always staying true to his era-appropriate vocabulary, to what household item does Vic compare a hologram's photons-and-forcefields existence on his debut episode, "His Way"?

From Quiz It's Only a Paper Moon

Answer: Light bulb

"Light bulb?" "That's what I am, right? A collection of photons and forcefields. You know, your basic heuristic, fully interactive hologram." Although viewed by his friends as more of a "real" person than a light bulb, Vic is aware of the true nature of his existence despite his 20th-century sensibilities. His holographic environment is the only reality he knows and he experiences life entirely within its context, even down to details like paying the bills, hiring performers, and managing his business. Vic's vernacular, including period-specific cultural references, often leave those of the crew unfamiliar with this era of humanity perplexed, but only enhances his charm. Even though Vic's program runs in Quark's own holosuites, the Ferengi sometimes considers the hologram competition for his own establishment.

14. Where was Odo brought up?

From Quiz "Deep Space 9" Quiz: Odo

From Quiz Captain's Log - Benjamin Sisko

Answer: She was killed in the Battle of Wolf 359, in a fight with the Borg.

We found out what happened to Sisko's wife during flashbacks he had in the pilot episode "Emissary." Sisko was serving on board the USS Saratoga as First Officer when it was attacked by a Borg cube during the Battle of Wolf 359. His wife Jennifer and son Jake lived on the starship with him. The damage was so severe it caused a warp core breach and the Saratoga had to be abandoned. Jennifer died in the direct hit when their quarters were demolished. Jake, though unconscious survived. Sisko, completely overcome with emotion, did not want to leave the trapped body of his wife and had to be dragged out by another crew member. They made it to an escape pod before the ship exploded. He finds the major's holographic image in a program belonging to the good Dr. Bashir and, after removing her Russian accent, puts her in his act singing "Fever," the song with which Peggy Lee hit the charts in 1958. "If this babe doesn't raise your temperature, you'd better check the obituary column, because chances are you're in it, pallie." Odo chooses not to play along, unsatisfied with substituting a hologram for the real Kira.

From Quiz "DS9"'s Kira Nerys (Part 1)

Answer: Kira Meru & Meru

Kira's mother was Kira Meru, an icon painter and artist. Kira was told that her mother had died from malnutrition in the Singha Refugee Camp, but she actually had been "drafted" as a "comfort woman" for the Cardassian troops stationed at Terok Nor (the former name of Deep Space Nine). Kira Meru had been Gul Dukat's lover, something which Kira Nerys found out in the sixth season episode "Wrongs Darker than Death or Night". Upon discovering this, Kira was disgusted but she could not bring herself to kill her and Dukat when she travelled back in to that time.

23. Finally succeeding in getting Odo and Kira together in the holosuite for a date (episode: "His Way"), Vic croons what song while they dance - before they "wake up to reality"?

From Quiz It's Only a Paper Moon

Answer: I've Got You Under My Skin

Visiting her on the holosuite, Vic tells Kira that Odo is crazy about her: "He's not the same stick in the mud anymore. The cat can swing!" Confused by Vic's words (and surprised by his claims), Kira accepts the invitation to dinner, supposedly extended by proxy at Odo's request. But Odo thinks he's dining with an upgraded, life-like Kira hologram. They dance to Vic's rendition of the Frank Sinatra song, "I've Got You Under My Skin," but the evening ends abruptly when they both realize they were tricked, and Odo learns that Kira is not a hologram. "I'm good, pallie, but I'm not that good. You've been dancing with the real McCoy." After a heated encounter on the promenade ending in a passionate kiss, however, Odo and Kira become "quite an item."

24. Whom did Bashir first perform surgery on?

From Quiz Our Man Bashir

Answer: Kukalaka

Kukalaka is Bashir's teddy bear, who underwent an emergency re-stuffing procedure when Bashir operated on him. Bashir was five years old at the time.

25. In "A Simple Investigation", Odo falls in love with Arissa. Why does this not work out?

From Quiz "Deep Space 9" Quiz: Odo

26. Who recruited a 12 year old Kira into the Bajoran Resistance?

From Quiz "DS9"'s Kira Nerys (Part 1)

Answer: Lorit Akrem

It was Lorit Akrem who recruited the young Kira into the Bajoran Resistance. She became a part of Shakaar's resistance cell, of which Lupaza was another member. Ro Laren was not on Bajor at this time and most likely would have been far too young to have been a part of the Resistance anyway.

27. According to Jadzia, Trills tend to have this characteristic...

From Quiz "Star Trek's" Best Host, Jadzia Dax

Answer: Cold hands

Jadzia said this in "DS9" episode "A Man Alone."

28. In Season 2, Dr. Julian Bashir went to extraordinary lengths to save Garak's life. What was wrong with Garak?

From Quiz Medical Log - Dr. Julian Bashir

Answer: A cranial implant he had was deteriorating.

The implant, a device developed by the Obsidian Order, Garak had in his brain was originally given to him so he could resist torture by releasing endorphins. Having trouble coping with being isolated, despised, and very physically uncomfortable on Deep Space 9, Garak began to use the device more and more frequently until it was on all the time. The implant started to malfunction which gave Garak terrible headaches and was killing him. Quark was unable to obtain a new one for Garak on the black market because the implant was classified. Julian went to great lengths to help learn what was wrong with Garak first turning to Odo who secretly observed Quarks transmissions and communications. Bashir kept vigil over Garak while he was unconscious. Bashir even took a runabout to track down the former head of the Obsidian Order, Enabren Tain, to find a way to save Garak. "The Wire" is a very powerful episode with brilliant dialogue between Julian and Garak. If you have not seen it, I highly recommend it. The writing is superb and the twisting tales of Garak intriguing and clever. Question by christi_dove

29. What did Sisko do that Picard never did?

From Quiz Captain's Log - Benjamin Sisko

Answer: Hit Q

Q only appeared in one episode of "Deep Space Nine" and challenged Sisko to a boxing match. His next comment was "You hit me, Picard never hit me!". To which Sisko replied "I'm not Picard". In respect of the wrong answers, Picard played the Ressikan flute, used a recreation of the sailing ship when promoting Worf and Sisko played the piano in his father's restaurant, visited Vic's Bar in the holosuite and read a book in the episode "Paradise".
