"DS9"'s Kira Nerys (Part 1) Trivia Quiz

Kira started off her "DS9" career as a Major in the Bajoran Militia and was promoted to Colonel at the start of season 7 in the episode "Image in the Sand". Kira was also granted a temporary field rank of Commander during the final story arc in season 7, when she was sent off to train dissident Cardassians in the art of guerilla warfare.

In subsequent novels set after the end of the series, Kira was given the rank of Captain in Starfleet when Bajor finally joined the Federation.

Answer: Kira Meru

Kira's mother was Kira Meru, an icon painter and artist. Kira was told that her mother had died from malnutrition in the Singha Refugee Camp, but she actually had been "drafted" as a "comfort woman" for the Cardassian troops stationed at Terok Nor (the former name of Deep Space Nine). Kira Meru had been Gul Dukat's lover, something which Kira Nerys found out in the sixth season episode "Wrongs Darker than Death or Night". Upon discovering this, Kira was disgusted but she could not bring herself to kill her and Dukat when she travelled back in to that time.

Answer: Lorit Akrem

It was Lorit Akrem who recruited the young Kira into the Bajoran Resistance. She became a part of Shakaar's resistance cell, of which Lupaza was another member. Ro Laren was not on Bajor at this time and most likely would have been far too young to have been a part of the Resistance anyway.

Apparently, Kira's earring was made by her friend and fellow resistance member, Lupaza, from the metal of a Cardassian skimmer. Kira had managed to kill the entire Cardassian contingent by herself.

Kira helped plasma-bomb the house of Gul Pirak, in which he and his family were killed. Also injured and severely scarred by the attack was Silarin Prin, a Cardassian who takes his revenge by killing off several members of Shakaar's cell one by one in the episode "The Darkness and the Light".

Kira enjoyed playing Springball on occasion and often followed the games played by her local team. Bajoran Springball is similar to the Earth game squash (or racketball).

Kira played the role of Guinevere in a holosuite programme with Jadzia Dax, as seen in "The Way of the Warrior, Part 1" (Kira can be seen in full garb when she is being introduced to Worf in Quark's bar). Her image was used for the character Anastacia in Julian Bashir's James Bond-style programme in "Our Man Bashir" and for the nightclub singer Lola Chrystal in "His Way".

She has never been seen to play Cleopatra though.

Kira was chosen to act as Presider for the Bajoran Gratitude Festival in the episode "Fascination". Later in that episode, she contracted Zenthi Fever from visiting Lwaxana Troi and became fixated on Julian Bashir. Hardly a celebration, Kira was also chosen as the host for a Prophet in the episode "The Reckoning", which was prophesised by the Bajoran ancient texts as an ultimate battle between the Prophets and the Kosst Amojan.

The Festival of Lights is, in fact, an Indian celebration.

Kira represented Lela Dax, the first Dax host, during Jadzia's Zhian'tara (or the Trill Rite of Closure). Lela was the first woman to serve as a council member on the Trill homeworld, walked with her hands clasped behind her back (something Jadzia is seen doing throughout the series) and had a son named Ahjess.

Kira's attempts at making bird sculptures as seen in the episode "Accession" was somewhat disastruous. When a rival to the position of Emissary arrived on DS9, he proposed a return to the Bajoran caste system (known as d'jarra). According to Kira's d'jarra, she would have belonged to an artist caste. Unlike her mother, Kira's artistic talents were practically nonexistent!

Reon was the name of one of Kira's brothers, whom we see briefly in the episode "Wrongs Darker than Death or Night". Her other brother was called Pohl.

Answer: Extra hot with two measures of kava

In the episode "Crossfire", we learn that Kira likes her raktajinos extra hot with two measures of kava. Kava was native to Bajor and was used as a flavouring for beverages (though we never learn exactly what kind of flavouring it is!).

Kira discovers that Odo was in love with her in the episode "Children of Time", where an older Odo sacrificed an alternate timeline in order to save Kira's life so that he could have a chance at love with her. Kira and Odo officially became romantically involved in the episode "His Way" (which sees a very dramatic kiss on the Promenade).

In "Heart of Stone", it seems that Odo has revealed his feelings to Kira, but it is then discovered that that Kira was, in fact, the female Changeling.
