"Badlands" is a 1973 film starring Sissy Spacek as the teenage Holly Stargis. Holly lives in a rural South Dakota town with her father, whom she does not get along with. She falls for the new bad boy in town, Kit Carruthers (Martin Sheen). Kit is 25 and Holly's father disapproves of their relationship because of Kit's age and abusive tendencies.

After Holly's father kills her dog, Kit kills him. Kit and Holly fake their own deaths and travel across the South Dakota Badlands on their own, searching for safety and comfort.
