During this time in American history, Mormons were not looked upon favorably and many works dealing with them portrayed them negatively. In this novel, the three main characters live in the predominately Mormon town of Cottonwoods, Utah but each feels ostracized by the church. Jane, in particular, struggles to escape the local elder who wants her for his third wife (in reality he wants her money). Jim and Bern are not Mormons but are expected to comply with the local Mormon laws.

Slip Stream is a fighter pilot originally from Provo, Utah. Unlike many other characters from the series, Slip Stream is not very stern and gruff. Although he takes his work very seriously, he is also an avid ping pong player and video gamer. He is also known as an expert in computers and mechanics.

"Silent Night, Deadly Night" is an extremely controversial 1984 film starring Robert Brian Wilson as Billy Chandler. Billy is orphaned at a young age when he witnesses his parents being murdered by a man dressed in a Santa outfit. After spending time in a strict orphanage run by nuns, Billy becomes an adult and enters the world on his own. His is psychologically triggered by seeing Santa and goes on a murder spree after his boss asks him to fill in as his store's Santa on Christmas Eve.

The film was met with widespread condemnation for its depiction of gory violence set during Christmas and sacrilegious overtones.

Peepers is a minor Marvel villain born Peter Quinn who has the ability to see things from a very far distance away. He can also see through objects and shoot lasers from his eyes. He is part of various villain leagues, most notably the Mutant Force. He is a somewhat close ally of Magneto's.

"Hereditary" stars Toni Colette as Annie, an artist who struggles with her family's dark past littered with mental health issues. When her mother dies, Annie seeks help in a group for people struggling with the death of a loved one. Research into her mother's life reveals that Annie's mother may have belonged to a demonic cult which could be the source of her many issues. Furthermore, Annie's young daughter dies in a freak accident caused by her 16-year old son Peter (Alex Wolff). Peter also succumbs to psychological issues and drags the family down further.

"Silver Canyon" is a 1951 novel by Louis L'Amour that is set in 1881. Matt Brennan is a drifter in Utah Territory who comes across the small town of Hattan's Point in San Juan County. There, he falls in love with a woman named Moira. Moira's father is one of two ranchers in town who basically control everything.

The two rival ranchers escalate their war with each other in the hopes of being the only one in town. Matt is caught between the two as he is in love with Moira but his employer (the owner of the local bar) prefers to remain neutral as having two nearby ranches is better for his business.

Answer: A Study in Scarlet

"A Study in Scarlet" is the debut novel of Arthur Conan Doyle's famous detective Sherlock Holmes and his assistant Dr. Watson. Holmes and Watson investigate the murder of a wealthy man who apparently bled to death but there is no wound on his body.

The story flashes back in time to the 1840s where we meet John Ferrier who is lost in the desert with a little girl he later adopts named Lucy. They are rescued by Mormons and are assimilated into the community. However, Mormons are considered unfavorable people at this time even to John Ferrier who was saved by them. The local community of Mormon elders forbid Lucy to marry a non Mormon and attempt to marry her off to several prominent men, one of which is the murder victim.

On the series "Big Love", Bill Henrickson is a fundamentalist Mormon from Utah who practices polygamy despite the Church of Latter Day Saints and the state of Utah banning the practice. Bill has three wives, Barb, Nicki and Margie (Jeanne Tripplehorn, Chloe Savingy and Ginnifer Goodwin) and several children with each of them.

However, Barbara is considered his main wife and the one legally recognized. Bill also had another wife named Ana at one point and also had many affairs with other women. Bill and his wives claim to be married to each other and much of the plot of series deals with their struggles of living in this unconventional relationship.
