Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Juliette Barnes and Rayna Jaymes are country music divas living in which Tennessee city, the same name as the series?

Answer: Nashville

Nashville is the hot bed of country music in the United States so it is no surprise the show would be set there. Hayden Panettiere plays Juliette Barnes, an up and coming country music singer trying to make it in Nashville. Connie Britton plays Rayna Jaymes, a long time country music sensation. The two women quickly become rivals as Rayna fears the rise of a younger star.
2. In Gloria Naylor's short story collection "The Women of Brewster Place", how many women are there?

Answer: Seven

The novel is subtitled "A Novel in Seven Stories". It centers around the lives of seven African-American women in Tennessee and their daily life struggles, especially their love lives. The collection was adapted into a miniseries of the same name producer by Oprah Winfrey.
3. Percy Munn is the young, ambitious lawyer and protagonist in "Night Rider", a novel by which author?

Answer: Robert Penn Warren

"Night Rider" focuses on Percy Munn, a lawyer caught up in a fictional version of the real life Tobacco Wars in Kentucky and Tennessee. When the price of tobacco fell, tobacco companies limited the sale of the product until the prices rose. This led to widespread violence and rioting in the two states.

Percy Munn is an idealist lawyer always fighting for justice. However, fighting for justice and achieving it are two different things, something Percy has trouble dealing with.
4. Officer Jake Hannah and Corrine Maguire are two of the people trying to rescue citizens of Western Tennessee in which weather disaster film?

Answer: Atomic Twister

"Atomic Twister" was based loosely on true events. When a tornado destroyed a nuclear power plant, radiation and other hazardous materials risk being leaked into the air and water. Jake Hannah (Mark-Paul Gosselaar) is a police officer who searches the local area trying to find a small child and other people to save. He is aided by Corrine Maguire (Sharon Lawrence).

None of the events in the film happened in real life. However, a tornado did hit a nuclear power plant in 1998 (but no damage was done) in Tennessee and the events of the film are based off fears people had at the time.
5. In the film "Pearl Harbor" Rafe McCawley and Danny Walker are best friends from Tennessee. A series of events leads both men to fall in love with the same woman. What is this woman's name?

Answer: Evelyn

Ben Affleck and Josh Hartnett play Rafe and Danny, respectively. Rafe and Danny have been friends since childhood who serve together at Pearl Harbor. Rafe falls in love with a nurse named Evelyn (Kate Beckinsale). However, Rafe is soon presumed dead when his plane is shot down. Danny and Evelyn find comfort in each other and quickly fall in love themselves.

However, Rafe is actually alive and feels betrayed by his friend and his love.
6. Camae is a hotel maid and angel who meets with which historical figure on the eve of his assassination at Memphis' Lorraine Hotel in the 2009 play "The Mountaintop"?

Answer: Martin Luther King Jr.

The play's title is a reference to King's "I've Been to the Mountain Top" speech which he delivered the day before he was assassinated. King was in Memphis in support of a strike by the local sanitation workers. In this fictionalized version of his last day, King comes in contact with Camae, a hotel maid and angel and the spend much of the evening discussing King's plans and fears. Camae informs King that he will be assassinated the next day and King must learn to handle this information.
7. Muskie the Muskrat and Vincent van Gopher are two enemies of which canine Tennessee sheriff?

Answer: Deputy Dawg

Deputy Dawg had a series of short cartoons in the 1960s. He was the local canine sheriff who exhibited overexaggerated southern stereotypes. His main rivals were Muskie the Muskrat and Vincent van Gopher who would often try to steal his food. However, he was also friends with both of them. Deputy Dawg's home moved around frequently.

He was originally from Florida and then moved to other Southern states before the show settled on Tennessee as his home.
8. What is the name of the woman who relocates to Cutter Gap, Tennessee as part of a Christian mission program in a 1967 novel by Catherine Marshall?

Answer: Christy

"Christy" is considered a classic Christian novel. Set in the early 20th century, Christy is a young woman who is inspired to become a Christian mission and teach in the small rural town of Cutter Gap, Tennessee in the Appalachians. Christy is from a wealthy family and struggles initially to adapt to the rough, toilsome life in the small undeveloped town.

But her faith and desire to help others aides her in her mission.
9. Bert Cates is the Tennessee school teacher on trial for teaching evolution in which classic play based on the real life Scopes Monkey Trial?

Answer: Inherit the Wind

"Inherit the Wind" is based on the real Scopes Monkey Trial, a much publicized case that dealt with the teaching of evolution in public schools, which was illegal in many places at the time.

Bert Cates, in the play, is the Hillsboro teacher on trial for teaching evolution. His lawyer is Henry Drummond while the prosecutor is Matthew Harrison Brady. Drummond and Brady are both well known lawyers and close friends but the trial sees them on opposite ends of the courtroom. This mirrors the real life battle between William Jennings Bryan and Clarence Darrow, the lawyers in the Scopes case.
10. Miley Stewart is the teenage girl from Crowley Corners, Tennessee who is better known under what alter ego?

Answer: Hannah Montana

Miley Stewart is portrayed by Miley Cyrus. Miley is a young teenage girl living a semi-normal life in Tennessee but she is also, secretly, pop star Hannah Montana. Very few people know her identity because Miley fears she would only be liked for her fame and not for herself. Miley's father, Robby, is portrayed by her real life father, Billy Ray Cyrus.
