This information is found in chapter two called 'Dobby's Warning'. Dobby came to warn Harry that he must not go back to Hogwarts because if he did he would be in mortal danger. Dobby speaks of a plot, 'a plot to make most terrible things happen at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry this year'.

Dobby stopped Harry from receiving letters from his friends in the hope that if Harry thought that his friends had forgotten him, he might not want to go back to school.

Bill and Charlie have left home - Bill working as a curse-breaker for Gringots in Egypt and Charlie is working with dragons in Romania.

Lucius Malfoy bought all of the Slytherin team Nimbus Two Thousand and Ones in order to get his son Draco onto the quidditch team.

Hermione says 'At least no one on the Gryffindor team had to buy their way in, they got in on pure talent.' Malfoy then calls her a mudblood and Ron tries to fire a spell at Malfoy, but it backfires and he ends up throwing up slugs.

Nearly Headless Nick - full name Sir Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington - died 31st October 1492, making this 500 years since he died . He is always annoyed that he can't join the Headless Hunt because he wasn't beheaded properly.

Answer: A snake

We first find out that Harry can talk to snakes in the first book, when he sets a snake free from the zoo. But he speaks it again in this chapter when he is duelling Draco Malfoy. Malfoy says the spell 'Serpensortia' and a long black snake shoots out.

It looks like it is going to attack Justin Finch-Fletchley but Harry tells it not to. What Harry didn't realise was that he was talking parseltongue. Everyone but Ron and Hermione think that Harry is the one attacking the muggle borns.

The diary blows back to the thirteenth of June. Harry is then transported to Hogwarts fifty years ago where he sees a sixteen year old Tom Riddle. He finds Hagrid and says that he opened the Chamber of Secrets. Hagrid is then expelled and Tom receives a special award from the school.

The spider Harry and Ron find is called Aragog. He tells them that Hagrid didn't open the Chamber of Secrets and that he wasn't the monster in the Chamber.

Answer: A sock

Harry sets Dobby free with a sock. He tricks Lucius Malfoy by handing him Tom Riddle's diary with the sock hidden inside. As he is unaware of the sock, he hands it straight to Dobby. Harry tells Dobby to open it and when Dobby finds the sock he has been set free.
