Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The Dursleys had a couple over for dinner in the hopes of landing a large order for Mr. Dursley's company, Grunnings. This dinner was ruined by Dobby dropping a pudding on the floor and then ruined even further by an owl swooping in through the dining room window. What was the last name of the couple the Dursleys had over?

Answer: Mason

Harry thought Uncle Vernon had smoothed over the pudding dropping, but he completely lost control when the owl delivering Harry's warning letter from the Ministry of Magic swooped in. Mrs. Mason screamed like a banshee and fled the house...apparently she was mortally afraid of birds of all shapes and sizes!
2. What Muggle trick that Fred and George feel is worth knowing did they use when helping Harry escape from Privet Drive?

Answer: Lockpicking

Fred and George say that most wizards feel skills like lockpicking are a waste of time. For all of us who "know" them, we realize any skill that helps them do devious things is one they feel is very valuable!
3. Which of the following was NOT a required course book written by Gilderoy Lockhart?

Answer: Lunch with a Leprechaun

The only book written by Lockhart without a silly name was "Gilderoy Lockhart's Guide to Household Pests" (or at least the only one we ever hear of). Mrs. Weasley tried to use advice from this book to tell Fred, George, and Ron how best to de-gnome a garden...I don't think they were impressed!
4. While hiding in the cabinet in Borgin and Burkes, Harry sees Malfoy looking at an opal necklace. How many Muggle lives had it claimed as of that date?

Answer: Nineteen

The cabinet Harry is hiding in is the very same vanishing cabinet Malfoy uses in "The Half Blood Prince". Additionally, the opal necklace Draco is looking at is the same cursed necklace he later has Madam Rosmerta give to Katie Bell (also in "The Half Blood Prince").
5. In the book "Chamber of Secrets", Harry's glasses are once again broken after coming out of a grate in Knockturn Alley. Does Hermione fix them?

Answer: No

In the book, Mr. Weasley fixes them; however, in the movie versions of "The Sorcerer's Stone" as well as "Chamber of Secrets", we see Hermione fix Harry's glasses. I know it's hard to get those images out of your head, so I thought I'd see if I could trick you! (Thanks to JaneMarple for the tip!)
6. After going to Gringotts to get gold, Harry treats himself, Ron, and Hermione to ice cream. What kind did they get?

Answer: Strawberry and Peanut Butter

I imagine they got this at Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlor, where, in "Prisoner of Azkaban", Harry spends his afternoons talking with Florean about medieval witch burnings. I was sad to read that in "Half Blood Prince", Florean disappears...
7. At Gilderoy Lockhart's booksigning for "Magical Me", what color robes is he wearing?

Answer: Forget-Me-Not-Blue

I love all the different colored robes Lockhart wears...it takes a real man to wear pink!
8. Upon arriving at Hogwarts by way of Mr. Weasley's flying car, Harry and Ron were looking through a window into the Great Hall. They noticed that there was an empty chair at the staff table...Snape's. Which of these was NOT suggested by Ron or Harry to be a reason Snape was missing?

Answer: "Maybe he's been killed by one of his own potions!"

"Or maybe, he's waiting to hear why you two didn't arrive on the school train"...bet they weren't expecting to have Snape right behind them!
9. What did Hermione inform Harry and Ron was the first password into the Gryffindor common room?

Answer: Wattlebird

Caput Draconis was the first password in "Sorcerer's Stone", Fairy Lights was a password during the Yule Ball in "The Goblet of Fire" (which after many boxes of chocolate liqueurs with her friend Violet, the Fat Lady pronounces as "Lairy Fights"!), and Abstinence was the password after Christmas break in "Half Blood Prince" (and after the Fat Lady had had a little too much punch!).
10. How many times has Gilderoy Lockhart won the Witch Weekly's Most Charming Smile Award?

Answer: Five

I love how he always tells everyone this, but then says, "But I don't talk about that!"
11. While in Herbology with the Hufflepuffs, which student tells Harry, Ron, and Hermione that they had their name down for Eton, but decided instead to come to Hogwarts?

Answer: Justin Finch-Fletchley

Eton College (high school to us Americans) is the very prestigious all male (so that definitely rules out Hannah!) private school that both Prince William and Prince Harry attended.
12. While serving his detention helping Professor Lockhart answer his fan mail, Harry is addressing an envelope. To whom is it addressed?

Answer: Veronica Smethley

Bathilda Bagshot is the author of "A History of Magic", Madam Nettles was a witch who bought the same "Kwikspell, a Correspondence Course in Beginners' Magic" that Filch bought, and Madam Edgecombe was the "SNEAK" Marietta's (Cho Chang's friend who betrayed the DA in "Order of the Phoenix") mother.
13. At Nearly Headless Nick's deathday party, we learn that Nick died on which date?

Answer: October 31, 1492

We find out that Nick was hit forty-five times in the neck with a blunt axe before finally dying...I'd say that should definitely earn him a spot on the Headless Hunt!
14. In the book, when pressed by Hermione, which Professor eventually tells them the legend of the Chamber of Secrets?

Answer: Professor Binns

I know the movie shows Professor McGonagall telling the students of the Chamber. However, in the book, Hermione persuades the ghost Professor Binns in History of Magic to tell them by reminding him that legends always have a basis in fact...tricky girl!
15. After the disastrous episode with the pixies in Defense Against the Dark Arts, Professor Lockhart had taken to reenacting scenes from his books, often having Harry help him. Which of these roles was NOT one Harry played?

Answer: The Bandon Banshee (the one that Lockhart didn't get rid of by smiling at her!)

Harry also played a werewolf the day they tricked Lockhart into signing their permission slip for getting a book out of the restricted section. One of my favorite quotes comes from that scene, "Lockhart will sign anything if it stands still long enough!"
Thanks for taking part one of my quiz, I hope you enjoyed taking it as much as I did making it! Please send ANY AND ALL comments, corrections, or questions, and I'll be sure to answer...THANKS!
