1. What is the capital of Portugal?

Answer: Lisbon

Lisbon is located on the coastline of the the south-central area of Portugal. It's been the capital ever since 1255.
2. Portugal has two archipelagos (island groups). What are their names?

Answer: Madeira and Açores

The Madeira archipelago was founded in 1420 and has Funchal as its capital. The Açores archipelago was founded in 1432 and has Ponta Delgada for its capital.
3. Which of these is a river that doesn't flow through Portugal?

Answer: Guadalquivir

Guadalquivir is a river that runs through the south of Spain. All mentioned rivers have their sources located within Spain.
4. The Portuguese coast is bordered by the Mediterranean Sea.

Answer: False

Portugal only has the Atlantic Ocean on its coast. Countries that are bordered by the Mediterranean Sea include Greece (Europe), Syria (Asia) and Egypt (Africa), for example.
5. What is the highest point in Portugal?

Answer: Pico

It is located on the Azorean island of the same name, Pico, and rises to 2,351 meters. Serra da Estrela is located in central-north Portugal, Pico Ruivo is located on the island of Madeira and Cabo da Roca (Europe's westernmost continental point) can be found in Sintra.
6. Which color can't you find on the Portuguese flag?

Answer: Orange

Green represents hope. Red represents the blood that has been shed for the land. Yellow is the color of the armillary sphere that can be found in the center. Orange you would find on the Dutch flag (for example).
7. Which of these islands belongs to one of the Portuguese archipelagos?

Answer: Porto Santo

Porto Santo is the smallest inhabited island in the Madeira archipelago. Mallorca belongs to Spain, Corsica to France and Sardinia to Italy.
8. There are no lakes in mainland Portugal.

Answer: True

You would have to travel to the Azores archipelago in order to find some. The two most famous are Lagoa das Sete Cidades and Lagoa do Fogo, both located in the island of São Miguel. I've visited both and the sight of them is breathtaking.
9. Which of these cliffs can be found in Portugal?

Answer: Cabo Girão

It is one of the highest cliffs in Europe, and the sight below just gives you goosebumps. Vixía Herbeira is in Spain, Hornelen (highest cliff in Europe) is in Norway and Cape Enniberg in the Faroe Islands.
10. There are no volcanos of any kind in Portugal.

Answer: False

You can find them but once again not in mainland Portuguese territory. Pico (the highest point, remember?) is actually a dormant volcano, like most in Portugal.
