Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Please note: The word clue when capitalized refers to one of "The 39 Clues." Otherwise it is just a minor clue to help find the real Clue. Now, on to the quiz! At the beginning of "Storm Warning," Amy, Dan, Nellie and Saladin are still in Beijing, and are trying to decide where they should go next. They have a clue that leads them to believe that the infamous Anne Bonny was a direct ancestor of theirs. In trying to choose between Jamaica and the Bahamas, where do they end up going?

Answer: The Bahamas

Less than five minutes after deciding to go to the Bahamas, Dan checks his phone messages and listens to one from Hamilton Holt, who mentions that the Bahamas is the wrong place to go. How did Hamilton know where they were going when they had only just made the decision? Dan and Amy's suspicions fall on their au pair Nellie, whom they had already been wondering about for some time.
2. Dan and Amy confront Nellie with their suspicions once they get onto the airplane. At first Nellie tries to evade their questions, but then she admits to having been hired by their grandmother to watch over them. Who does she say that she is being paid by and reporting to?

Answer: Mr. McIntyre

Nellie tells Amy and Dan that Grace interviewed her three times before giving her the job, and that Grace had threatened Aunt Beatrice with being cut out of her will if she fired Nellie. Little does Nellie know that Grace had been grooming her for this position for a long time before the 'interviews.'

With this shocking information, Dan and Amy are not sure if they will ever trust their au pair again.
3. Amy finds a brochure describing the Jolly Codger Pirate's Cove tour, where tourists visit a number of islands known to have been frequented by famous pirates. What name catches Amy's attention as a known associate of Anne Bonny's?

Answer: Jack Rackham

Jack Rackham was an English Pirate known as "Calico Jack" and he lived 1682 until 1720. He earned his name from the calico clothing that he wore. Calico is a plain-woven textile made from unbleached, and often not fully processed, cotton.
4. While on the Jolly Codger Pirate's Cove tour Dan and Amy receive a clue that directs them to a cave at the east end of one of the islands that they stop at. There, they find the Tomas symbol just inside the cave entrance. What danger befalls them while they are exploring the cave?

Answer: The tide comes in, nearly drowning them.

Nellie ties Dan and Amy to a rope so as to be able to pull them out if there is a problem - and a good thing, too! Amy hit her head on the rocks, and was unable to help herself. Nellie pulled them both to safety before the incoming tide fully flooded the cave. Dan also managed to retrieve a chain with a bear claw on it... symbolizing the Tomas clan... but for what purpose?
5. Dan, Amy and Nellie leave from Montego Bay and head across the island towards Kingston. Amy found information that pointed to Anne Bonny having been imprisoned. What is the name of the city that used to be the capital of Jamaica before Kingston?

Answer: Spanish Town

After a quick detour to the Government Records Centre in Kingston, Dan, Amy and Nellie make their way to the Jamaica Archives in Spanish Town. There, a tall, young man named Lester helps them with their research. They find a manifest of the contents of Calico Jack's ship, and they learn what the significance of the bear claw chain is -- one of a collection of pieces for each branch of the Cahill family.
6. In addition to the bear claw that they found on the Jolly Codger tour, what other item from Calico Jack's manifest do they realize that they already have?

Answer: One Serpent Medallion, Carved, Green Stone

The carved, green stone serpent medallion is none other than the jade necklace that once belonged to their grandmother, Grace Cahill.
7. Lester, from the Jamaica Archives, finds Nellie and brings her to an old lady (his mother) named Miss Alice who has been waiting for her to arrive for over twenty years. What article of jewelry does Nellie have that Lester recognized as a match of something his mother owned?

Answer: Her nose ring

Nellie's nose ring is a small silver snake. The two matching snakes had been passed down for generations in Miss Alice's family, mother to daughter, for nearly three hundred years. The snakes had been passed down through two different branches of the family, and one of them had been passed down to Nellie.
8. Which of their rivals do Amy and Dan set a trap for?

Answer: The Kabras

A couple of things led to the Cahill kids taking this action. One - the Kabras showed up and began chasing after them in their SUV. Two - Amy remembered an item of Isabel Kabra's jewelry - a fang.

With three of the four branch relics in their possession, they lay the ambush for the Kabra family, and take the fang from Isabel, who is knocked unconscious in the fracas.
9. Amy, Dan and Nellie meet with Lester at his excavation site, where they spot a silver box among the artifacts. They realize that it relates to the branch relics that they collected, but before they can examine it, a couple of thugs chase after them for it. Lester pretends to run off with the box, and he and the thugs get trapped in a quicksand pit. Who dies in the quicksand?

Answer: Lester

It was a ruse to draw the thugs away from the kids. Nellie actually had the silver box.

All three of them get caught in the quicksand, and Lester calmly talks the two thugs to freedom. Unfortunately, he is unable to save himself in the process.
10. Nellie finally reveals to the Cahill kids who she has actually been working for all this time: The Man in Black. What is his name?

Answer: Fiske Cahill

The Man in Black - Fiske Cahill - has Dan and Amy open the box using the relics that they collected, revealing one of the 39 Clues - a spice called mace - and directions to the next location to search - England.

After they open the box, Fiske reveals his identity to them, and explains that he is, in fact, their great uncle - Grace Cahill's brother, and a Madrigal. Fiske also informs Dan and Amy that they have now officially been granted active Madrigal status for their actions.
