The Marauders Trivia Quiz

Answer: Gryffindor

Sirius Black, one of the boys part of the Marauders, came from a family who were all sorted into Slytherin House, so he was the first Black to be sorted into a different one, as stated in 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows'. In this same book, when James is asked what house he wanted to be in, he proudly stated Gryffindor. Stated in 'Hogwarts: An Incomplete and Unreliable Guide', Peter Pettigrew was a hatstall between Gryffindor and Slytherin.

A hatstall is when the Sorting Hat takes more than five minutes to choose a house for a student to go into.

Lily Evans was another student sorted into Gryffindor, and later married James Potter. Severus Snape was in the same year as the same Marauders, but was sorted into Slytherin; they all had a rivalry. It is unknown what house or year Marlene McKinnon attended Hogwarts, but as stated in 'Harry Potter and the Order of The Phoenix', she was a member of the Order and was sadly later killed. Benjy Fenwick attended Hogwarts as well, but not much is known except he was part of the orignial Order as stated by Moody in 'Harry Potter and the Order of The Phoenix. Regulus Black was Sirius' younger brother which we found out from Horace Slughorn in 'Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince'.

Answer: Remus Lupin

Remus Lupin was bitten by a werewolf, Fenrir Greyback, when he was only five years old. Remus' parents weren't sure if Remus would be able to attend Hogwarts for this very reason. On 'Pottermore', a website dedicated to Harry Potter, it states that Lyall Lupin, Remus' dad, worked at the Ministry of Magic in the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures.

While he worked there, he came across a werewolf, Fenrir Greyback. Lyall said some nasty things about werewolves in front of Greyback. So, as revenge, Greyback bit Lyall's son.

When he does attend Hogwarts, Remus keeps this part of himself from his friends, but they do eventually find out in their second year of Hogwarts.

Answer: Remus Lupin

The reason the other three became Animagi was to keep Remus company while he turned into a werewolf. Remus was unable to become an Animagus because his transformations once a month left him unable to do so. When becoming an Animagus, you have to register this with the Ministry of Magic. You have to say what your animal is and any identifiable features. James, Sirius and Peter started their Animagus training while they were underage, so this makes them unregistered Animagi. If you were caught being an unregistrated Animagus, you could be sent to Azkaban.

Answer: Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs

Remus' nickname is Moony as he is a werewolf and it ties in with the full moon. The others have nicknames that refer to each one's Animagus: Peter is Wormtail, Sirius is Padfoot, and James is Prongs.

Romulus was Remus' brother in an ancient Roman myth, and in "Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows" Remus actually used the name Romulus as a code name. Bambi and Nemo are famous characters from other movies. Doe is a female deer and actually Lily's Patronus. Snivellus is a name the Marauders would call fellow student, Severus Snape. Regulus is Sirius' younger brother.

Answer: Stag

Sirius could turn into a large, black dog and Peter could turn into a rat. Hermione Granger's Patronus was actually an otter. Harry's Patronus, a defence charm against Dementors, is a stag, just like James' Animagus. You can't actually pick what your Animagus will be once you finish training.

Answer: Order of the Phoenix

There were two phases of the Order of the Phoenix. Dumbedore created it himself as a secret organisation to defeat Voldemort. It started in the First Wizarding War and again in the Second Wizarding War. Remus and Sirius were the only two Marauders who were in both phases. All Marauders as well as Lily joined the Order of the Phoenix after they graduated. Their job was to mostly go on missions and try to defeat the Death Eaters and Voldemort.

Dumbledore's Army was a secret organisation created by James' son, Harry Potter. Inquisitorial Squad was an organisation created by Dolores Umbridge which a lot of Slytherins joined. Gryffindor is the house that the Marauders were all in.

Answer: James Potter and Remus Lupin

James Potter married Lily Evans a few years after they graduated Hogwarts and then had Harry Potter. Remus Lupin married Nymphadora Tonks years after and had Edward 'Teddy' Lupin. A few years after graduation, Sirius was wrongly sent to Azkaban for twelve years and then died a few years after he escaped, so he didn't have time to settle down.

In those same twelve years, Peter lived his life as a rat and then stood by Voldemort's side as a Death Eater, so he didn't settle down either.

Answer: James Potter

James Potter died first out of the Marauders and so did his wife, Lily Evans. They were both killed by Voldemort and left their son, Harry, an orphan. Sirius died second, years later when he fell through the Veil in 'Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix'. Both Remus and Peter die in the last installment, "Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows".

Answer: Remus Lupin

Remus Lupin died last out of the Marauders and he was killed by Antonin Dolohov at the Battle of Hogwarts. His wife died as well, which made thier son, Teddy, an orphan. Remus survived the First Wizarding War, but he did lose his friends. Sadly, he died at the end of the Second Wizarding War.
