Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In 2003, the Tango drinks manufacturer displayed an advertisement stating "you know when you've been tango'd". What does the picture with this advertisement usually show?

Answer: someone being hit in the face

The advertisement normally shows someone being hit in the face/mouth by an exploding orange.
2. Who was Herbert Morrison?

Answer: famous Labour Party Statesperson and M.P.

He started his career in politics in 1905 and as an M.P. held a variety of top posts including during the World War II coalition government and in Labour governments after the war. He became a peer in 1959.
3. Big Ben in London is on the north bank of the River Thames. Is this true or false?

Answer: True

Big Ben is situated next to the Houses of Parliament and also next to Westminster Bridge.
4. What is noology the study of?

Answer: intuition

Now go on and tell me that you had a feeling that was the answer!
5. What was different about the Empire Games Commonwealth marathon in Vancouver, Canada in 1954?

Answer: Run in incredible heat the leader finally collapsed 185 yards from the finish.

Jim Peters of England was so exhausted by the heat he took 11 minutes to cover 200 of the last 385 yards. He then finally collapsed to be taken to hospital without finishing. A clear example of the "agony of the long distance runner". There were sixteen starters and seven finishers in the race.
6. What was different about the 1956 English Grand National horse race at Aintree?

Answer: The leading horse fell in the home straight for no apparent reason.

The Queen Mother's horse Devon Loch fell for no apparent reason in the home straight. It was not a heart attack as he walked away minutes later completely unconcerned by the incident.
7. What is kinesics the study of?

Answer: body language

Apparently in the long term the body's language will tell the truth. Political commentators now sometimes use it to determine what politicans really think. In the last English general election Labour politicians were trained in body language to impress the media. Apparently a jacket carried over your shoulder means that you are working hard.
8. How did the British Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott particularly attract media attention to himself during the 2001 General Election?

Answer: he punched a demonstrator

With the television camera following his every move he launched his fists at a demonstrator who threw an egg at him. Happily the police understood the position and he remained in post unshaken and unstirred.
9. If you put some dilute suphuric acid (1 in 12) on zinc and shortly after put a match close to it what do you think will happen?

Answer: an explosion

The zinc turns to zinc sulphate and the hydrogen is released from the sulphuric acid (H2SO4). Hydrogen and air are an explosive mixture so expect a large bang that is potentially dangerous. I suggest that you don't try it!
10. The 1970 Eurovision Song Contest was won by Ireland with Dana singing which song?

Answer: "All Kinds of Everything"

She became famous as a schoolgirl with this song and went on to a great career in singing and politics.
