1. What is the real name of the singer known as Pink?

Answer: Alecia Beth Moore

Born in 1979 as Alecia Beth Moore, Pink is a singer and songwriter who came to prominence when she released the single "There You Go" from her debut album "Can't Take Me Home". Moore's stage name of Pink came from a nickname she had when she first started performing in clubs in her hometown of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
2. During World War Two, the RAF painted some aircraft pink.

Strange but true, the Royal Air Force (RAF) did use pink camouflage on some of its aircraft. The reason for this was that it made the aircraft hard to spot at sunrise and sunset. In addition, it had the benefit of making the aircraft hard to spot from the ground when there was cloud cover.
3. What fictional "pink" animal gave its name to the colour of Land Rover used in the desert by the British SAS?

Answer: Pink Panther

The British SAS used their "Pink Panther" Land Rovers in the desert from 1960 up until the 1980s. They were said to be a highly effective camouflage scheme for desert warfare.

The Pink Panthers took their name from the "Pink Panther" films, featuring Peter Sellers as Inspector Jacques Clouseau.

Land Rovers were first developed in the UK for farmers, as a tough 4 x 4 vehicle that could be used around farms, powering certain machines. It was soon discovered that they had a wide variety of other uses - including military use - and are sold globally thanks to their tough but simple design, making them excellent vehicles for use in rough terrain.
4. In Marty Robbins' song "A White Sport Coat", what kind of pink flower was he wearing?

"A White Sports Coat (and a Pink Carnation)", was released in 1957 - written and sung by Marty Robbins. According to Robbins, the inspiration for the song came as he was being driven to a gig in Ohio. As he passed a high school, he spotted a group of students going to their school prom.

Answer: The Amazon Basin

Inia geoffrensis, or the Amazon River dolphin, can be found in the Amazon and Orinoco river systems in parts of Brazil and Bolivia, to the north of South America. These dolphins can be either pink or grey in colour.

The Chinese White Dolphin can also be pink, but it is found in the seas off Southeast Asia.

Pinking shears are used for cutting woven cloth to prevent fraying along the cut. Louise Austin, an American woman living in Whatcom County, Washington, developed them. Samuel Briskman in Brooklyn, New York then devised a method of manufacturing them.

Released in 1968 by The Scaffold, "Lily the Pink" was a song about a 19th century American woman called Lydia Pinkham, famed for her herbal medicine. Based on the song "The Ballad of Lydia Pinkham", it became a number one hit in the UK for The Scaffold.

Dianthus are flowers known as carnations, pinks, and Sweet William. They are mainly perennial plants, getting their names from the Greek words "dios" (god) and "anthos" (flower).

The name "pinks" is believed to be of German origin, dating from the 14th century.
9. What was the name of the war film that featured a pink submarine?

Answer: Operation Petticoat

"Operation Petticoat" was a war film set during World War II, featuring Tony Curtis and Cary Grant. It was later turned into a TV series during the 1970s.

The film concerns the USS Sea Tiger, a fictional submarine sunk during a Japanese air raid. Repaired, the submarine heads for Darwin, Australia, and on the way picks up five US army nurses.

Due to the submarine not having been painted, Curtis' character obtains the white and red lead paint needed to paint the submarine. However, he does not get enough paint, resulting in the paint having to be mixed, creating pink paint.
10. Who was NOT a founding member of the British group Pink Floyd?

Answer: Phil Collins

Phil Collins was the drummer and lead singer for Genesis, as well as having a successful solo career.

Roger Walters, Syd Barrett and Nick Mason were all founding members of Pink Floyd.
