Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What was the butler's name on "Family Affair"?

Answer: Mr. French

Sebastian Cabot, who died of a stroke in 1977, played the role in the original CBS series that ran from 1966-71. Tim Curry is the "new" Mr. French.
2. What is the name of the butler in "Batman"?

Answer: Alfred

Alfred Pennyworth was butler to the Wayne family since long before Bruce was born. He looks after Batman and Robin, Wayne Manor, the Batcave and all their high tech gadgets.
3. Jeeves is probably the most famous literary butler. Which club did he belong to?

Answer: Junior Ganymede

Named after the cup-bearer to the gods of Greek mythology, the Junior Ganymede Club is a place for butlers, valets and other "high-class" servants to gather in elegant surroundings. All members must write down embarrassing information about their employers in the club book. Jeeves uses this information to save Bertie's bacon in "The Code of the Woosters". (Thanks to al99 for the correction)
4. Who is the butler in the "Addams Family"?

Answer: Lurch

Lurch is a man of few words, but an accomplished harpsichord and organ player.
5. Who wrote "The Remains of the Day", a novel about a butler in post WWI England?

Answer: Kazuo Ishiguro

Lord Darlington's butler Stevens has to deal with his memories after Darlington's death. Anthony Hopkins stars in the movie version.
6. Cato is Inspector Clouseau's manservant (The "Pink Panther" movies). What does he do when Closeau comes home?

Answer: Attacks him

He is supposed to attack Clouseau in unexpected ways to keep his fighting skills sharp.
7. The BBC Sci-Fi series "Red Dwarf" features a mechanoid butler. What is his name?

Answer: Kryten

Kryten is played by Robert Llewellyn, the host of "Scrapheap Challenge"/"Junkyard Wars". He is a Series 4000 Mechanoid model 2X4B-523P, but he thinks "2X4B" is a "jerky" middle name.
8. P. G. Wodehouse created two memorable butlers: Jeeves and Beach. Who is Beach's employer?

Answer: Lord Emsworth

Beach has certain standards when it comes to employers. When Lord Emsworth acquires a rather unattractive beard Beach is ready to give notice. ("Blandings Castle")
Jeeves is, strictly speaking, not a butler but a valet.
9. Hudson is the butler to which family in "Upstairs, Downstairs"?

Answer: Bellamy

The series chronicles the history of the Bellamy family from 1903 to 1930.
10. This one's for Patricia Cornwell fans: who is Governor Crimm's butler in "Isle of Dogs"?

Answer: Pony

"Isle of Dogs", together with "Hornet's Nest" and "Southern Cross", is a zany departure from Cornwell's Kay Scarpetta mysteries.
