Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. One of the most famous celebrity actresses is Shirley MacLaine, but do you happen to know the name of her equally famous brother? (Hint: He was in the 1967 film "Bonnie and Clyde".)

Answer: Warren Beatty

Warren Beatty has received several Academy Award nominations for both his directing as well as his acting. As an actor he was nominated for such films as "Bonnie and Clyde"(1967) and "Bugsy"(1991). As a director he scored with such hits as "Reds"(1981) and "Heaven Can Wait"(1978).

He is not related to Ned Beatty. Gene Hackman and Gene Wilder were also in the film "Bonnie and Clyde"(1967). In another interesting note, Carly Simon recorded her signature song in 1972 called "You're So Vain", and although she claimed the song was not talking about one man in particular, many believed that she was talking about Warren Beatty in the song.
2. Of the following "brother" musical groups, which is the only one comprised of actual brothers?

Answer: The Hudson Brothers

Although the Hudson Brothers (Bill, Brett and Mark) were not a major success story, they did record the hit song "So You Are A Star" (1974) and they also had a short-lived TV show between 1974-1975 called "The Hudson Brothers Show". Bill Hudson was married to actress Goldie Hawn between 1976-1980, and is the father of actress Kate Hudson.

The Doobie Brothers were a 70s-80s rock band featuring Tom Johnston, Patrick Simmons and Michael McDonald. The Statler Brothers were a country music group, and although two of the members were brothers, their surname was not Statler.

The Righteous Brothers consisted of Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield, and were a very popular duo of the 1960s. By the way, they got their name in 1962 when they were with a group called the Paramours.

At the end of a performance a Marine stood up in the audience and shouted, "That was righteous, brothers".
3. I am sure you are all aware of the legacy of the US political Kennedy family, especially the brothers. Which of the Kennedy brothers made the following famous quote: "Some men see things as they are and say, 'Why'? I dream of things that never were and say, 'Why not'"?

Answer: Robert F. Kennedy

There was no specific time or circumstance noted as to when Robert Kennedy spoke these words, but the quote was used often and Edward Kennedy used those words as part of his eulogy following the assassination of Robert Kennedy. Obviously, President John F. Kennedy had many famous quotes as well, perhaps the most famous one made during his Inaugural Address in 1961: "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country". Joe Kennedy was the older brother who actually was the one whom father Joe Sr. was priming to become President, but he was killed in action during World War II, thus allowing John to take his place.
4. In 1980, Walter Hill directed a western film called "The Long Riders" which told the story of Jesse James's gang of bank robbers. The cast included four groups of real life brother actors. Which brothers were NOT part of the cast?

Answer: Jeff and Beau Bridges

Jeff and Beau Bridges are the sons of legendary actor Lloyd Bridges who starred in "High Noon" (1952) with Gary Cooper and "Airplane" (1980). He also starred in the popular TV series "Sea Hunt" (1957-1961). Although Beau and Jeff were not in "The Long Riders", they were together in "The Fabulous Baker Boys" (1989).

The Keaches starred as Frank and Jesse James, the Carradines portrayed the Younger brothers, while Dennis and Randy Quaid starred as the Miller brothers. The fourth brother group that was not mentioned here include Christopher and Nickolas Guest who played Bob and Charlie Ford, the men who shot Jesse James in the back.
5. Which of the following sets of brothers were twins?

Answer: Robin and Maurice Gibb

Robin and Maurice, two thirds of the successful brothers Gibb known as the Bee Gees, were both born on December 22, 1949. They were not identical twins. The Brothers Grimm of fairy tale fame were born a year apart. The Wright Brothers who taught us all how to fly were born four years apart. The '60s vocal duo the Everly Brothers were born two years apart.
6. Which of the four acting Baldwin brothers was nominated for an Academy Award in 2003?

Answer: Alec

Alec, who is the oldest of the Baldwin brothers, was nominated for Best Supporting Actor in 2003 for the film "The Cooler". The award was won by Tim Robbins for "Mystic River".
7. Which of the following Biblical characters had eleven brothers?

Answer: Joseph

The eleven brothers of Joseph are noted in the Book of Genesis, chapters 29 and 30. Jacob's brother was Esau. Moses had brother Aaron. Abraham had two brothers, Nahor and Haran.
8. Which pair of brothers both failed to make it to the Super Bowl?

Answer: Bob and Mike Golic

Both Golic brothers had good National Football League careers but neither made it to the big game. Bob played with the Patriots, Browns and Raiders. Mike spent his career with the Oilers, Eagles and Dolphins. Tiki Barber went to the Super Bowl in 2000 but lost to the Ravens. Brother Ronde won the Super Bowl with the Buccaneers in 2002. Sterling Sharpe never made it to the Super Bowl, but his brother Shannon went three times with the Broncos and Ravens. Place-kicker brothers Matt and Chris Bahr both won Super Bowls. Chris won two with the Raiders (1981 and 1984) while Matt won two with the Steelers and Giants (1979 and 1990).
9. Which pair of celebrities are brothers?

Answer: actors James Arness and Peter Graves

Peter Graves was born Peter Aurness and his brother James dropped the "u" in his name before becoming a Hollywood star. Peter became Graves before following in his brother's footsteps. Arness was, of course, best known for his role as Marshall Matt Dillon in the hit TV western "Gunsmoke" (1955-1975), which was one of the longest running shows ever. Graves earned equal popularity as Jim Phelps, leader of the IMF on the TV series "Mission Impossible" (1966-1973).

He later went to the big screen starring in the 1980 airport movie spoof "Airplane".
10. Which of the following movies centered on fictional brothers who were portrayed by real life brothers?

Answer: Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band

In 1978, Robert Stigwood, who produced the hit film "Saturday Night Fever"(1977), created a tribute film to the Beatles' album "Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band". The 1967 album became one of the Beatles' most popular and well known albums. Stigwood, who had just produced the hit musical "Grease" (1978), incorporated the aid of his "Saturday Night Fever" musical friends The Bee Gees to star as brothers Mark, Dave and Bob Henderson.

They, along with Billy Shears (played by Peter Frampton), formed the new Sgt Peppers Band. "Twins" (1988) starred Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito as unlikely "twins" Julius and Vincent Benedict who were produced by a scientific experiment.

In "The Blues Brothers" (1980), John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd brought the SNL brother band Jake (Belushi) and Elwood (Aykroyd) Blues to the big screen. "Backdraft" (1991), which was directed by Ron Howard, starred Kurt Russell and William Baldwin as feuding firefighting brothers who ended up together in the same fire department.
