Answer: Captain Stubing

Fresh off his stint as Murray Slaughter on "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" Gavin MacLeod got a starring role as Captain Merrill Stubing on "The Love Boat". He became a born-again Christian in the mid-1980s and has appeared on several Christian television shows to discuss his life and conversion.

He appeared in every episode of "The Love Boat" as well as three made-for TV movies based on the show. The show ran for nine seasons, from September 1977 to February 1987.
2. Who had a hit record with "Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show"?

Answer: Neil Diamond

Neil Diamond was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1984. His recording of "Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show" was released in April of 1969. It was the title track of Diamond's fourth studio album. It peaked at number 22 on the BILLBOARD Hot 100 chart. It was followed by what would become Diamond's signature song "Sweet Caroline".
3. In the Disney movie "The Love Bug" what was the name of the car?

Answer: Herbie

Dean Jones and Michelle Lee portrayed the romantic leads in this 1968 movie. Jones played the part of Jim Douglas, a race car driver. Comedian Buddy Hackett played Tennessee Steinmetz, Jim's roommate and racing partner. There were also appearances by "Laugh-In" announcer Gary Owens and legendary sportscaster Chick Hearn. Both portrayed announcers of course. Several cars "auditioned" for the role of Herbie, but it was a Volkswagen Beetle that ended up with the title role.
4. In the 1980s, which TV network advertised their daytime dramas with a jingle called "Love In The Afternoon"?

Answer: ABC

In the 1980s, ABC's daytime drama lineup included "All My Children", "Ryan's Hope", "One Life To Live" and "General Hospital". Of the four only "General Hospital" is the only one still in production as of 2020 when this quiz was written. Its first episode aired on April 1, 1963.
5. One of the best known horror and gothic writers of the 20th century was H.P. Lovecraft. Was that his real name?

Answer: Yes

Howard Phillip Lovecraft was born on August 20, 1890 in Providence, Rhode Island. Save for readers of pulp fiction magazines like "Weird Tales" he was relatively unknown is his lifetime. He corresponded with other contemporary writers who used many of his themes in their own works with his blessing. Writers like Stephen King and Jorge Luis Borges have cited him as a major influence.
6. A Bible passage often read at weddings begins: "Love is patient. Love is kind". What book of the Bible is that from?

Answer: I Corinthians

Most biblical historians are in agreement that the books of First and Second Corinthians were written by the Apostle Paul. However, there is some controversy surrounding a passage in chapter 14 which contradicts a verse in chapter 11. The passage in chapter 14 ends with the words "It is shameful for a woman to speak in church".

However, in chapter 11 reference is made to women prophesying and praying in church. Many scholars believe that the verse in chapter 14 was inserted later by someone other than Paul.
7. Who played the title role in the 1969 comedy "The Love God"?

Answer: Don Knotts

Don Knotts portrayed Abner Audobon Peacock IV. Although it was a comedy it was more adult oriented than Knotts' previous comedic endeavors. Among his co-stars were Anne Francis and Edmond O'Brien. Abner was editor of a fledgling bird-watching magazine who sought help from O'Brien's character Osborn Tremain who, unknown to Abner, planned to turn it into an adult men's publication.

When the new magazine became a hit, Abner unwittingly became a hero in the adult community. It was an obvious satire on Hugh Hefner's empire.
8. Was the movie "To Sir With Love" based on a book by the same name?

Answer: Yes

"To Sir With Love" was based on a novel by E.R.Braithwaite, based on his own teaching experiences. The movie was produced and filmed in the United Kingdom. Sidney Poitier portrayed Mark Thackeray, a teacher from British Guiana who migrated to Great Britain. Nearly 30 years later in 1996, Poitier reprised the role in a made-for-TV movie "To Sir With Love II".
9. The melody of Elvis Presley's hit "Love Me Tender" was taken from an old folk song. What was its title?

Answer: Aura Lee

The melody of "Aura Lee" was in the public domain. It was written in 1861 during the American Civil War, with lyrics by George Poulton. Ken Darby wrote the lyrics to "Love Me Tender" using the original melody. He credits Elvis with adapting them to his own style in the recording studio, saying of Presley "He has the most perfect ear of anyone I've ever met".
10. What country singing group had a hit with "Trying To Love Two Women"?

Answer: The Oak Ridge Boys

"Trying To Love Two Women" was the follow-up to the Oak Ridge Boys' hit "Leaving Louisiana In The Broad Daylight". It was written by Sonny Throckmorton, one of Nashville's more prolific songwriters. It was their third number one record on the Billboard Country Chart and the first single from their album "Together".
