Oxford is a town with an outstanding history that goes back to events in Medieval Norman and Saxon times, to 15th and 17th centuries. Its nickname is the "City of Spires", because of its skyline of Gothic towers and steeples. Oxford is located near the banks of the Thames River and is best known for the University of Oxford, one of the oldest universities in the world.
