Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Quickly Getha rushes off on her journey for the "Quincy Quibbler" to visit locations that were influenced in one way or another by the name of an American President. She will be joined by pilot John and his co-pilot Terry, who doubles as a flight attendant. Please note that Getha will visit locations that were either intentionally named after a President or just accidentally happen to share the name in one way or another.
Getha naturally is keen to get started. "I feel fine" is what she hums on the plane on her way to the first location, while painting her fingernails a nice shade of red. Our ace reporter visits an island first that has the same name as the first American President George Washington. It is called Teraina, but can also be referred to as Washington Island. It is part of an island state which can be found in the Pacific Ocean. The capital is Tarawa. Which country is Getha going to?
2. Getha is still making photographs at Washington Island, when her editor calls her on her mobile phone to remind her that the deadline for her epic feature is nearing quickly. "You better get back soon girl", he shouts ominously. Getha rolls her eyes at this, but still she quickly says a "Ti a bo", goodbye in the Gilbertese language, to the friendly natives she has met and rushes to her next scheduled location, while reapplying her mascara that had somewhat run out.
Her second stop takes Getha once again to an island nation, this time in Asia. It is where she finds a municipality called Adams, in a province called Ilocos Norte. This province borders the South Chinese Sea. In which country do we find Getha for her second mission?
3. Getha just has time to utter a quick "Kastan" to the friendly couple in Adams, which happens to be a goodbye in the Ilokano language. She must go to the airport quickly however, as she is already late for her next scheduled stop in a small community called Jefferson. Terry helps her get her six leopard skin bags back on to the plane and off they go again. "We can work it out", she says with a smile.
Getha has already learned while doing her research that there are many places in the United States called Jefferson. She has happened to have a found a place in Canada of the same name however and has therefore happily added it to her list of places to visit. The community is part of Cadston County, which is located in the south of the province Getha finds herself in. The capital of this Canadian Province is Edmonton. Which province is Jefferson a part of?
4. As Getha politely waves "goodbye" to the friendly folks of Jefferson, trying to get the smell of cow dung out of her priceless outfit, she is happy to find her next stop will be a much larger place. She worries about the travel budget of her newspaper, but is consoled that her winning the "Pullitzer prize" later will compensate for the trip she made. Terry quickly irons another outfit for the worn out Getha who feels she has been travelling eight days a week, while John directs them swiftly to their next location.
As we leave Getha to ponder her talents as a journalist while changing clothes and resting up, we note that she is travelling to the city of Monrovia. It is the capital of a country in the western part of Africa. Where is Getha headed next?
5. As Getha says farewell to the friendly people of Monrovia, she finds herself back on the plane to travel to Australia, where she is to visit the small town of Jackson. Let's hope our city girl will find something suitable to wear in one of her bags this time. Terry helps brush her long blond hair and selects a nice country hat. "It's been a hard day's night", Getha exclaims, as she sips on a Martini.
We will leave Getha momentarily to ponder her choice of attire and hair style, while we focus on her next destination. The small town of Jackson is part of one of the Australian states located in the northeast. It is nicknamed the Sunshine State and has Brisbane as its capital. Which of the states will Getha be finding herself in?
6. Getha is pleased to meet so many nice people on her trip, but seeing her deadline approach even more rapidly, she once again says "goodbye" to the people of Jackson and checks her itinerary for the next destination, while quickly checking if her lipstick needs redoing. She is pleased to learn that she will be going to Europe for the first time on this trip.
As Getha fondly remembers her French holiday where she had a brief fling with a Breton fishermen's son called Pierre at the age of 16, we notice that Getha will not be going to France at all, but will visit the Netherlands. Here she will find herself in the town of Buren. The name of the town naturally reminds us of former American President Martin van Buren, who had Dutch roots. As Getha visits, she learns that the town has strong ties to the house of Orange, the royal family of the Netherlands. "Act naturally", is what Getha thinks to herself. The Dutch monarch is regarded as the Count or Countess of Buren. Which of the sons of Queen Beatrix, who succeeded her in 2013, has entered the Eleven Cities Tour, a skating tour through eleven cities in the province of Friesland, with the last name van Buren?
7. Getha does a little royal wave and says a very enchanting "Vaarwel, lieve mensen" ("Goodbye my lovely people") to the people of Buren. Remembering her tight schedule she rushes off to the "Quincy Quibbler" private jet to learn that George is also anxious to go home, as his wife Eleanor could give birth to their first child any time soon. It will only be a short trip this time as Getha heads for Scotland next. "Tell me why", she asks Terry, who naturally goes into a long explanation.
We will keep it a little more brief than Terry. This time Getha will visit a parish in the Scottish county of Stirling (also referred to as Stirlingshire). It is named Buchanan. The parish is located on the eastern shore of the largest lake in Great Britain in terms of surface area. What lake or loch is Getha going to grace with her presence?
8. Getha has just bought a nice kilt in a dainty little souvenir shop in Buchanan, when her phone rings. Her editor is now getting really anxious for her to complete the story. "I don't want to spoil the party", he says, but I need that story for the next edition. He threatens her to complete it quickly or else. Getha is send off by the friendly Scottish people with a bagpipe salute and hops on the jet to her next destination. Listening to a beautiful rendition of "Don't cry for me Argentina" on her Ipod, she is exicited to learn the South American country is next on her list. She does a quick tango step with Terry whose smooth hips she has always admired. As he is just bringing her a cocktail, it is spilled all over the plane.
We leave Getha and Terry to clean up the mess and focus instead on the next location that is scheduled for Getha. She is travelling to Lincoln, a city located in a district of the same name. The city and district are located in the province of Argentina, which reminds us of fresh air and the capital of Argentina. What is the province called?
9. Getha rushes to snap a few last pictures in Lincoln and then goes off again with a cheerful "Adios" to go up to destination number nine. Surely the woman has a ticket to ride. As George is contacting his wife, who may have just gone into labour, Getha dutifully studies the brochures Terry has just handed her about the country of Slovenia, finding it hard to focus with Terry nearby.
Leaving Getha momentarily to mix Slovenia's highlights with thoughts of joining the Mile High Club, we focus on the city of Grant. Once again Getha is going to visit a small village. It is located in the municipality of Tolmin in Slovenia. Clearly it must be a quiet and peaceful location she is going to. Once a year the town of Tolmin is a little less calm though, as one of Slovenia's music festivals is held in the area. What "heavy" festival could Getha visit in this area?
10. Getha's head hurts a little after her day at the festival near Grant. Although arguably it could also be the local wine she sampled with John and Terry. She says a meek "Adijo" to the people of Grant and hurries off to her final destination. She has literally been here, there and everywhere. John is anxious to get home, even though his wife did have a false alarm and that deadline is approaching without mercy. "Time to focus on the job at hand and head over to Australia again, and time to put the final move on Terry", Getha thinks.
The last stop Getha makes is on the island of Tasmania, where we find a place called Hayes. One of the features of this town is a facility not everyone might like to have in their backyard. What type of facility is found in Hayes?
