Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The "rock" is one of the most popular decks to ever hit the extended arena. It is popular because of the tremendous board control it brings backed up with hand destruction and recursion. What do you call the board-clearing enchantment in the deck?

Answer: Pernicious Deed

The Pernicious Deed is the best board clearing permanent there is. It can destroy almost anything in play and even if it is BG based, it is still splashable in many extended decks. You can get it into play as early as turn two if you've got a mana producer and that's what you call speed.

The disk is way too slow and can only be played in vintage and legacy; Oblivion Stone is even slower and almost impossible to use; Lastly, the kegs are also vintage/legacy types that cannot destroy enchantments.
2. This goblin wasn't that well recognized until the release of the food chain deck in extended before. The food chain rotated out but this goblin still remains as a key ingredient in the decks' success. This card came out from the Apocalypse expansion set as an uncommon and has the card drawing abilities. Who is this red friend of ours?

Answer: Goblin Ringleader

Yes it is indeed an uncommon card but the food chain deck wouldn't work without him. Combine him with his vintage Weatherlight bud so that you can get four more friends on the top of your library. The Goblin Ringleader is surely a staple in every goblin deck because of the card advantage it gives you.
3. This creature is one of the best green creatures I've ever seen since Eternal Witness. It has a casting cost of 1GG, a body of 1/3, and a rare ability of letting you draw cards whenever he deals combat damage to an opponent. What's also good about this dude is that he kills other creatures that stand in his way. Can you guess what this prodigy is?

Answer: Ohran Viper

Coldsnap was just released and the viper is far the best card in the set. How many green creatures does have a card drawing ability? You can name only a very few. Now, include that Ohran Viper to an extended rock deck or a UG control deck then you've got an extended powerhouse.
4. This white instant makes the Isochron Scepter look like a vintage broken artifact. It can stop a player dead for a turn. It does not have the cantrip that Abeyance offers but it'll stop a player from casting anything for an entire turn. What is this Planeshift piece?

Answer: Orim's Chant

The Orim's Chant looks like a Time Walk but when you combine it with the scepter, it would look like an infinite Time Vault and that will stop your opponent dead on track. I'm not saying that the chant cannot stand alone by itself but it surely can and it can pretty much provide your deck with more tricks especially with combo decks. Try building a UW or a URW extended deck and see how it goes. You know the pieces.
5. Who says it's crazy to have four copies of your legendary card in your deck? That theory was true before but not until the release of the Kamigawa block. There is this broken legendary artifact in that cycle that players of all ages love. It is very powerful yet simple to use. The only requirement is that you need a creature for it to work. I mean, any kind of creature that can attack or block. What is this artifact?

Answer: Umezawa's Jitte

Almost every standard deck has a jitte on it. Not only one but four copies for easy topdecking. It provides firepower by nuking out your opponents creatures; It has a built in steroid syringe to pump up your critters; And lastly, it seems like that the Exalted Angels are the real owners of this artifact.

This card is truly staying even in extended because of the creature based environment. I just cannot believe that there is such an artifact like it. They should rename it as "Exalted Masticore's Magic Jitte"
6. The Paladin En-Vec is a standout in 9th edition where it was reprinted. It has a protection from black and red and has first strike. Is it true that it was first released in the Stronghold set way back?

Answer: False

It was first released in Exodus before and it was part of a creature based white weenie deck that focused on straight forward offense but with a hint of good defensive tactics as well. It was later on reprinted and an instant addition to standard white weenie and boros-based creatures. Expect this creature to be around the extended scene as well now that there are new tournament decks that utilizes it.
7. I remember the hype that Urza's Rage brought to the standard scene when Invasion released it. It was an addition to the Fires of Yavimaya deck before and was also a great finisher on its own. Can you guess what the total converted kicker cost of that card is?

Answer: 9

The kicker cost of Urza's rage is 8 colorless and 1 red making a converted cost of 9 in total. I would love to see this card hit in extended now that the urzatron lands are abundant in tournament play plus the fact that Misdirection already rotated out of extended.
8. There is an upcoming extended tournament in your local area and you plan on constructing a deck so you can join. You gathered up a couple of your Shadowmage Infiltrators, Shadow Of Doubts, and Undermines. Then you suddenly remember that you need to buy a playset of fetchlands to use for your deck. What fetchland are you buying then?

Answer: Polluted Delta

The Polluted Delta is the most valuable among the other fetchlands. The card is highly important for an extended Psychatog deck and can search out those Watery Graves and mostly, those Underground Seas in Vintage. It's just the number of decks you can build with it that's why it is a hot commodity.
9. This is what you include in your deck if you want speed. It provides you with a colored mana depending on the card you imprinted on it. It's good for aggro-type decks and is legal in extended. What is this shiny artifact?

Answer: Chrome Mox

The Chrome Mox is a must have for every player playing extended or legacy. It boosts up your speed when it comes to setting up your combos and even makes you play turn two spells during your first. You know the rest.
10. This card is the ultimate stopper. It denies those fetch lands, deeds, jittes, and all sorts of powerful cards. It prevents activated abilities of permanents that you named. What is this savior?

Answer: Pithing Needle

It is truly the ultimate sideboard for all formats. The Pithing Needle is probably the best sideboard because not only does it provide defense but it also slows down your opponents. This is probably the best all around card that you can get out of the Japanese inspired block.
