Answer: Michaelangelo Buonarroti

Michaelangelo actually sculpted "David" from a piece of marble that was too thin for the project. He told his critics that the statue was already contained within the marble; all he did was remove the unneeded pieces.
2. Who painted "Mona Lisa"?

Answer: da Vinci

Perhaps Leonardo da Vinci's most famous work, the "Mona Lisa" featured prominently in the bestselling novel by Dan Brown, "The DaVinci Code."
3. Who painted "American Gothic"?

Answer: Grant Wood

Wood's inspiration for "American Gothic" was a small cottage he had seen in a small town of his native state, Iowa. He asked his dentist and his sister to pose for the painting, as a farmer and his unmarried daughter.

Pablo Picasso's "Guernica" was a representation of the suffering experienced during the Spanish Civil War, and was painted entirely in shades of gray. Guernica was also the ancient capital of the proud and independent Basques.

Dated somewhere between 130-90 B.C., "Venus de Milo" in currently on display at the Louvre Museum in Paris. Discovered by a French naval officer in 1820, both its arms and the original plinth are now lost.

Sometimes called 'Soft Watches' or 'Melting Clocks', this famous work by Salvador Dali was painted in the surrealistic style in 1931.
