Danny challenged Dave to find 54 men named Dave Gorman in order to win the bet and prove that there really are "loads" of men in the world who share the name Dave Gorman. Why 54? Part of the bet stipulated that each Dave Gorman was representative of a card in a standard deck of playing cards (including the jokers).

There are 13 cards in a suit and 4 suits in a deck which makes 52, plus the 2 jokers, which gives a grand total of 54.

Answer: Tequila

The bet was made whilst the pair were extremely drunk on Tequila. According to Danny, tequila is an "evil" drink, as it makes you do stupid things when under its influence. Stupid things like travelling half way around the world trying to find men that share your/your flatmate's name I suppose!

Answer: East Fife FC

Dave Gorman #1 was the Assistant Manager of East Fife FC, and also played for them as goalkeeper during his professional football career. According to East Fife FC's offical website he is no longer Assistant Manager. A fellow by the name of Graeme Irons has replaced him. I don't think he counts as a Dave Gorman somehow.

Answer: Norwegian

Hanne is Norwegian. Her name is pronounced "Hannah". She was less than impressed with the lad's antics, referring to the bet as a "stupid boy project". She assisted Dave and Danny in finding a Norwegian Dave Gorman (Dave Gorman #24), but this was to hurry the bet along and get her boyfriend back rather than to encourage them in their unique brand of madness.

Answer: Canadian

Dave Gorman #6 is Canadian but lives in St Alexandre in the south of France. He is an author of self-help books, and something of an expert on the Alexander Technique. In an ironic twist of fate, Dave and Danny travelled all the way to France to meet him, but he was away visiting a friend in Greenwich, London - the same city as where the lads live!

Answer: Israel

At 70 years old, Dave Gorman #45 from Israel was the oldest Dave Gorman they met during their adventures. They travelled to Israel thinking they had found five Dave Gormans, but it turned out they had found one man with five telephone numbers. It wasn't a wasted journey though, he was a really lovely man.

Incidentally the youngest Dave Gorman they met was Dave Gorman #44, who was 5 years old and from Ireland.

Colin Hurley, David Heffron, Graham Cleminson, Pascale Beatrice Noele and Kelly Scutts agreed to change their names to Dave Gorman via deed poll during Dave's Edinburgh Fesival stand up show about the Dave Gorman hunt. Pascale Beatrice Noele and Kelly Scutts are now proud women named Dave Gorman! Since the quest finished nineteen other people have offered to change their names.

Answer: Jersey

Dave Gorman #54 is from Jersey. It's quite a confusing tale of how Danny and Dave came to meet him. He had read an article in The Sun newspaper detailing Dave and Danny's search for other men named Dave Gorman. Rather than getting in touch with the pair to tell them of his existence he went instead to the Jersey Evening Post to tell them that he shared his name with someone who was searching for their namesakes.

The publication ran a half page article on him. A friend of Danny's mother who lives on Jersey alerted them of this article and thus allowed the pair to complete their search. By this time neither of them cared who won the bet, they just wanted it to be over!

Answer: Neighbours

The character was a homeless boy taken in by the kind hearted Harold Bishop, and was played by Cameron McDonald. "Neighbours" is an Australian soap proving that Dave and Danny's quest became an international phenomenon. Other people, animals and things named Dave Gorman mentioned in the Epilogue of the book include a professional boxing manager, a chicken that died of fowl cholera on June 16th 2001, nine dogs, six cats, an unspecified number of goldfish, a van and even a star that was named Dave Gorman by a Mrs Rebecca Whiting.

After the success of the stand up show, the BBC decided to commission a series telling the story of the quest. "The Dave Gorman Collection" was aired in 2001, in six half-hour installments. I remember watching the show on Sunday nights, whilst I was still at school.

Another great Dave Gorman stand up TV show is 2002's "Dave Gorman's Important Astrology Experiment", in which he lives his life by his horoscopes to the letter for 40 days and nights to see if it would improve his general love-life, health and wealth. Amazingly enough it did! I recommend that you should check both of these shows out.
