Middle-Earth and its History Trivia Quiz

This is my second Tolkien quiz, and probably a little bit harder than the first. It deals with a number of Middle-Earth works.

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What, according to Tolkien, is "Morgoth's Ring"?

Answer: Arda

In "Morgoth's Ring", Part 10 of the History of Middle-Earth series compiled by Christopher Tolkien, it is stated that in his greed and given the sheer magnitude of his power, everything contained within the Circles of the World was Morgoth's Ring.
2. What is the name of Theoden's grandfather?

Answer: Fengel

Theoden was son of Thengel, son of Fengel. Fengel was an avaricious king that loved hoarded wealth above all. His son left to serve in the armies of the Lord of Gondor until, when his father died, he went back to Rohan to take the throne.
3. Who oringally found and cut the Arkenstone?

Answer: Thrain I

It was found beneath Erebor by Thrain I, and crafted into the beautiful jewel it is.
4. On what month and day did Aragorn set out on the Paths of the Dead?

Answer: March 8

5. Whose ring did Aragorn inherit when he learned his true identity?

Answer: Barahir's

When Elrond taught Aragorn (then called Estel) of his true origin, he gave to him the Ring of Barahir which had been first given to Barahir by Finrod Felegund as a token of the bond between them. Although the ring was indeed passed to Beren, it was called Barahir's ring because he was the first to receive it from Finrod.
6. What is the name of the important dragon slain by Earendil?

Answer: Ancalagon

Ancalagon was one of the mightiest of all dragons ever created, and in the final battle of Valar and Morgoth, Earendil, in his flying ship, smote him to the ground. In "Fellowship of the Ring", Gandalf makes reference to Ancalgon when he states that even his fire would not be enough to unmake the One Ring.
7. What is one of the two names for the Vale of Saruman?

Answer: Nan Curunir

These were both used interchangably during the "Lord of the Rings" and I can't think of anything incredibly interesting to say about it, so there.
8. What was Feanor's birth name?

Answer: Curufinwe

His mother, however, stated that the fire of his spirit was too much to be related in such a name and called him Feanor.
9. Which of the dwarves of the Quest of Erebor were Thorin's nephews?

Answer: Fili and Kili

Fili and Kili, also the two youngest members of the Companions of Erebor, were the sons of Thorin's younger sister. They died defending him during the Battle of Five Armies. It is probably worth noting that among the Norse culture from whom Tolkien most likely derived some of his ideas about dwarves, the relationship between a man and his maternal uncle was extremely important.
10. Which of these names does not appear on the Doors of Moria?

Answer: Curufin

This is something I'm not going to quote precisely, but the doors were the Doors of Durin, Lord of Moria. Celebrimbor of Hollin (an Elf and the only descendent of Feanor to survive into the Second Age) drew the devices on the door, and Narvi the Dwarf made the doors themselves.
