Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What day was the very first that Ellen wrote in her diary?

Answer: April 17, 1907

In her first pages in the diary, she expresses her feelings for John Rimbauer, the owner of a big oil company. She explains that although people think of him as bad on the outside, she loves him for what's inside.
2. Why were the Rimbauers in Kenya, Africa?

Answer: John was on a safari with his friends.

While in Africa, Ellen gets a serious case of the African Sickness. She confides in a new friend, Sukeena, and decides to take her home with her. You can tell by the writing that Ellen is getting annoyed by John.
3. According to the diary, at what age did John Rimbauer enlist in the Army?

Answer: 18

Here's a direct quote from the book:

"At the age of eighteen I joined the Army and remained enlisted for six years."

This was apart of the discussion between Ellen and John after a number of disappearances in Rose Red.
4. On April 1, 1909, Ellen wrote that another woman has disappeared. She knew John was having one of his frequent affairs with her. This woman was the chambermaid. What was her name?

Answer: Laura

Laura was later found as a spirit inside of John's garage. This event made Ellen doubt John and herself being married.
5. When Ellen and Sukeena wanted to find out more about Rose Red, they went to a lady who had a "connection with the other side". What was this Chinese lady's name?

Answer: Madame Lu

Madame Lu suggested that the house was claiming victims because it was built on an Indian cemetery. Although wise, Madame Lu never left her spot in the city.
6. What was the name of John Rimbauer's oil company?

Answer: Omicron Oil

At Omicron his temporary partner was Douglas Posey. The two men often fought but remained partners because of the money. Posey later committed suicide in Rose Red because he didn't get enough money from John.
7. Why did Adam Rimbauer (the son of John and Ellen) leave Rose Red on September 9, 1915?

Answer: He was going to a private school.

John insisted that their boy have the proper education to grow as wise as his father. So, despite pleas from Ellen and Sukeena, John sent his only son to Cheshire Academy.
8. Sukeena was arrested because she "murdered" a police officer. In jail, she was often beaten and raped. Who got Sukeena out of jail?

Answer: John

Ellen begged John to help the woman whom she considered her sister. And, despite him being a jerk most of the story, John got Sukeena out of jail and back into Rose Red.
9. John Rimbauer committed suicide and jumped out of the window in the tower of Rose Red.

Answer: False

After being lured to the top of the house, Sukeena and Ellen pushed John out of the window. She said she liked the window now that it was rose red (filled with John's blood).
10. Ellen's final diary entry stated that Sukeena had gone missing. Now, Ellen had lost everything: her daughter, her husband, her son, and her best friend. What day was her final entry?

Answer: February 19, 1928

After the dairy, Joyce Reardon states that at the age of seventy, Rose Red made Ellen disappear, too. Workers there could hear sawing and hammering in the attic as Ellen was still building when she died. Thanks for playing!
