Michealangelo, Leonardo, Donatello, and Raphael were popular in the '80s, in both Japan and the US. In 1990 the Turtles starred in their first movie. "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: The Secret of the Ooze" debuted the next year, about the Turtles's rematch with Shredder. In the third movie, they were transported back to ancient Japan and switched places with four samurais.
