Jimmy Bones was a numbers runner and neighborhood hero who was betrayed by his best friend, Jeremiah Peet, and murdered by a drug dealer named Eddie Mack (Ricky Harris) and a crooked cop named Lupovitch (played by Michael T. Weiss). Jimmy Bones was murdered because he didn't want to go along with their plan to bring drugs into his neighborhood. Twenty-two years after his murder, drugs have flooded the neighborhood and turned it into a decaying ghetto.

Jimmy Bones is played by rap music extraordinaire/actor Snoop Dogg, who is also known for his roles in movies such as "Baby Boy", "Training Day", "Soul Plane", and as Huggy Bear in the movie adaptation of the '70s TV series "Starsky and Hutch", and for hit songs such as "Gin and Juice", "Doggy Dogg World", "Murder Was The Case" and "Drop It Like It's Hot".

The day that Jimmy Bones was murdered, his girlfriend Pearl came over to his place to tell him that she was pregnant with Cynthia. Years later, Cynthia falls in love with Patrick, Jeremiah's son who bought Jimmy Bones' house in order to turn it into a nightclub.

Bianca Lawson plays Cynthia. She's also known for her roles in movies such as "Save The Last Dance" and "Breaking All The Rules", and for her roles as Kendra on the TV show "Buffy, The Vampire Slayer" and as Maya St. Germain on the TV show "Pretty Little Liars".

Patrick is played by Khalil Kain, who has been featured in movies such as "Renaissance Man" with Danny Devito and Gregory Hines, and "Juice" with Omar Epps and Tupac Shakur.

Jeremiah's street name is J-Bird. In flashbacks from 1979, Jimmy Bones calls Jeremiah J-Bird (since they practically grew up together, like brothers). However, Jeremiah's jealousy of Jimmy causes him to conspire against him, and ultimately leads to Jimmy's death.

After Jimmy Bones' murder, Jeremiah moves himself and his family out of the old neighborhood and into a more suburban and affluent neighborhood. Jeremiah also owns the company that owns Jimmy Bones' brownstone. After Patrick buys it (through a broker, so that Jeremiah wouldn't know that it was he who bought it), Lupovitch pays Jeremiah a visit and addresses him as J-Bird. Jeremiah tells Lupovitch not to call him that, since that was his street name, and he has long since left the 'hood.

Jeremiah is played by Clifton Powell, who has been featured in movies such as "The Brothers", "Menace II Society", "Dead Presidents", "Friday After Next" and "Ray".

Pearl is forced to watch as Lupovitch, Eddie Mack and Shotgun (Jimmy Bones' bodyguard/driver) shoots and stabs him multiple times. Pearl is also a fortune teller (tarot cards, palm reading, etc). She reads Jimmy's palm, and tries to warn him of the impending danger to his life.

Pearl was played by '70s icon Pam Grier, who during the '70s was known for "Blaxplotation" classics such as "Sheba, Baby" "Black Mama, White Mama" and "Scream Blacula Scream", and is best known for the title roles in the '70s classic "Foxy Brown" and the 1997 Quentin Tarantino hit film "Jackie Brown".

Shotgun pleads to Jimmy to spare his life because Eddie Mack and Lupovitch would have killed him, but Bones isn't having any of that! Jimmy tells Shotgun that he could've fought back, or died trying to defend him. Jimmy slits Shotgun's throat. As Shotgun lays on the floor dying, Jimmy Bones sings "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot".

Shotgun was played by Ronald Selmour, who has also been featured in movies such as "Blade: Trinity" "The Chronicles of Riddick", "Tron: Legacy" and "Sucker Punch"

Bill and Tia, along with their friend, Maurice, go along with Patrick to renovate Jimmy Bones' old brownstone so they can turn it into a nightclub called Illbeint.

Bill was played by Merwin Mondesir, who was featured in the movie "Lost Boys: The Tribe". Tia was played by Katharine Isabelle, who has been featured in movies such as "Insomnia" and "Freddy Vs. Jason", and is best known for her starring role as Ginger in the "Ginger Snaps" trilogy.

After Patrick buys Jimmy Bones old brownstone, he along with Cynthia, Tia, Bill and Maurice (played by Sean Amsing) search the brownstone, which eventually leads them to the basement, where they uncover Jimmy Bones' dead body.

Tia finds a stray black dog, which is actually the physical manifestation of Jimmy Bones' soul. When the club opens, the dog transforms into a beautiful woman, who tries to seduce Maurice due to the fact that Maurice took Jimmy's ring off of his dead corpse.

The woman turns back into a dog and mauls Maurice to death. When Patrick goes to look for Maurice, the dog knocks Patrick down, and spits maggots out at him. The dog then transforms into a smokey mist, that enters Jimmy Bones' corpse, restoring him to life.

Jimmy finds Maurice's dead body, and pulls his ring off of Maurice's dead finger.

Back when Jimmy Bones was killed, Pearl witnessed the whole thing go down. Lupovitch ripped Pearl's dress off, and buried it with Jimmy.

Pearl later explains that there are three parts to a person: the body, the soul and the spirit. The spirit lives in the blood, and the spirit keeps the body and soul together. And sometimes, the spirit lives on.

Pearl's dress is covered in Jimmy's blood. Jimmy puts the dress on Pearl during a magical illusion. When Jimmy is about to kill Patrick (despite the tearful pleas from Cynthia), Pearl sets the dress and herself on fire. Jimmy tries to save her, and is set on fire as well, killing both of them.

Patrick and Cynthia escape the brownstone, which is collapsing. In the end, somehow Jimmy possesses Cynthia. Patrick picks up an old picture of Jimmy and Pearl. In the picture, Jimmy turns his head and stares at Patrick. Jimmy says the words "Dog eat dog, boy. Dog eat dog". Patrick turns to Cynthia, as she spits out a mouthful of maggots at him.

"Bones" was a tribute to classic "Blaxploitation" movies of the '70s, particularly the movie "J.D.'s Revenge" which starred Glynn Turman, and Lou Gosset, Jr.

Ernest Dickerson is known for directing movies such as "Never Die Alone" with rapper/actor D.M.X, and "Tales From The Crypt Presents: Demon Knight" with Jada Pinkett-Smith.
