Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which country does journalist Borat come from?

Answer: Kazakhstan

Borat Sagdiyev is a Kazakh journalist. The name of his neighbor Nursultan Tuyakbay, whom he accuses of copying everything he does, is a mixture of the names of two Kazakh personalities: President Nursultan Nazarbayev and politician Zharmakhan Tuyakbay.

The actual location of filming was the town of Glod, Romania, and its inhabitants were portrayed as poor, incestuous, rapists and abortionists without their knowledge. They claimed to have been tricked by the producers into thinking the movie would be about their suffering instead of a comedy that made more than $200,000,000 dollars.
2. Which of the following activities does Borat NOT perform when showing us the outside of his home and his hobbies?

Answer: Fighting a man

Borat tries to sunbathe... without sun. That should be quite hard, I guess. Borat also has a ping-pong table in his backyard, where he plays with his friends, and also dances disco with many of his "neighbors", actual people in Romania. He also tells us that he often travels to the capital of Kazakhstan to watch women in the bathroom, and record his television show, as he is a reporter. He has witnessed such events as the "Running of the Jew 2004", in which Arab people run away from a Jewish green monster, resembling the Spanish tradition of the Pamplonada. This is mocking the fact that most Arab countries are anti-semitic, but the movie certainly isn't, as Sacha Baron Cohen is Jewish.

The film was banned in all Arab countries except for Lebanon.
3. Borat is sent by his country's Ministry of Information to the United States to learn lessons that may help the country. He will be traveling with producer Azamat Bagatov. As he leaves his town in a car driven by a kid, we see the power does not come from the motor. What is the force moving the car?

Answer: A horse

A blue car is seen driving Borat and his crew out of his town, with a child in the driver's seat. However, a horse accompanied by a human is really pulling the car. Quite unusual, right?

After this scene, we are introduced to the actual "documentary", "Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan". Azamat Bagatov is credited as "official of production" and "director of camera machine", while Borat Sagdiyev takes the credit for the "reportings".
4. Borat and Azamat arrive to the John F. Kennedy airport in New York "with clothing, U.S. dollars, and a jar of gypsy tears to protect him of AIDS". They then ride the New York City subway, annoying every passenger sitting in it. Which animal comes out of Borat's luggage, causing both the laughter and the outrage of the passengers?

Answer: A chicken

Borat brings his pet chicken along to his New York trip. The passengers on the subway were real passengers, and none of the action was scripted, so the reactions of everyone are quite funny! Borat finally catches his chicken and leaves the subway, arriving at his lodging station, the Wellington Hotel, where he talks to the manager, Guy Borges.

He tells Borat the fee for one night is $117.13, and after he unsuccessfully tries to negotiate to make it $85, they walk in the elevator. Borat starts complimenting the elevator, as he thinks it is the room, and even starts unpacking!
5. After an exciting day in New York City, where Borat gets to know some New Yorkers (who look at him terrified), he takes an appointment with Pat Haggerty, a humor coach, since Azamat points out that while America is a country with a better sense of humor, a UN study places their birth country with a ranking of 98th place. During the meeting, what type of jokes do these two gentlemen NOT discuss?

Answer: Yo momma jokes

Borat has a hard time understanding NOT jokes. His teacher tries to walk him through it using the suit he's wearing as an example. Borat's suit is gray, so the coach says, "This suit is black, NOT." However, Borat doesn't really understand, so he replies, "This suit is NOT black." The humor coach finally gives up with Borat, after also discussing how mother in law jokes are funny in America, but those about people suffering from mental retardation are not.
6. Borat finishes his long day by watching TV in his hotel room. He calls an employee to help him with his television, since it isn't changing channels. (He does not realize there is a remote controller, in fact, he doesn't even know it is there!) After surfing through the variety of American television, he stumbles upon Pamela Anderson, and he falls in love. Which TV show is Borat watching, in which Pamela plays C.J. Parker?

Answer: Baywatch

"Baywatch" aired from 1989 to 2001, and starred David Hasselhoff, Jeremy Jackson and Pamela Anderson as lifeguard C.J. Parker. Borat immediately falls in love with Pamela after watching her run. He says that C.J. is different from every Kazakh woman he's ever seen, as she has "golden hairs and teeth as white as pearls".
7. Borat's next stop is a feminist club, where he intends to understand America's perception of women. He comments that "women have smaller brains than men", and confuses one of the feminists with an old man (for me that was hilarious by the way). When Borat learns that his wife is dead, he feels free to pursue Pamela Anderson, so they travel to California. Borat mistakenly believes both Pearl Harbor and Texas are located in California, and convinces Azamat of traveling there. Azamat insists that they not fly, in case the 9/11 attacks are repeated. Who does Borat blame for the 9/11 attacks?

Answer: The Jews

"Azamat insists we don't fly in case the Jews repeat the 9/11 attacks", says our friend Borat. So Borat finds another way of transportation: by car. He must take driving lessons before being able to drive a car in the United States.
8. After Borat obtains his driver's license, befriending the instructor in the process, he visits an auto shop. There are many cars he likes, but as he is looking for something between $600 and $650 dollars, there's not much the salesman can do. What car does Borat end up with, at a price of $700 dollars and no guarantee?

Answer: Ice cream van

Borat initially wants to buy a Hummer, since according to him, it is a good vehicle to run over gypsies. However, the price of this car is $52,000 dollars, something unreachable for him, so he ends up driving an ice cream van from New York to California. How about that?
9. Borat and Azamat continue their journey, and their first stop is Washington D.C., where they interview prominent politician Bob Barr. They also see a "traditional American street festival" (which is actually a gay pride parade), and interview Republican Alan Keyes. They also visit a rodeo, where Borat is booed by people. Why does this happen?

Answer: He sings the Kazakh anthem to the tune of the American anthem.

Well... not the real Kazakh anthem, but a random mix of words to the melody of "The Star Spangled Banner". He is booed by everyone in attendance, just after he earns their friendship by making American patriotic remarks. They continue their path to California and stop in a Jewish house.

When they realize this, they run away, giving money to cockroaches, arguing that would make them go away (as supposedly the Jewish couple had transformed into cockroaches).
10. Borat takes etiquette lessons in order to correctly behave at a fancy dinner. At the beginning, the hosts are very comprehensive and try to help Borat understand American culture. However, when he brings Luenell, a prostitute, as a guest, they kick him out and call the police. After a fight with Azamat, Borat wakes up alone, with no money and without his passport. After a long walk, members of a fraternity are willing to give Borat a ride. To which university, the alma mater of Andrew Card and Richard Riley, do these students belong?

Answer: University of South Carolina

Anthony, Justin and David are the three drunken fraternity brothers from the USC that give Borat a ride. These college students tell Borat that they should have slaves and that minorities have an advantage in America. They would later sue the producers of the film for defamation.
11. As Borat discovers that Pamela Anderson is not a virgin, he becomes extremely disappointed, so he starts burning everything he has that reminds him of Pamela. However, what does he accidentally burn too?

Answer: His airplane ticket

Trying to burn every piece of Pamela memorabilia, he accidentally burns his return ticket to Kazakhstan. What will Borat do now? No money, no car, and no return ticket!
12. Borat cries himself to sleep, and when he wakes up, he decides to join a United Pentecostal camp meeting. Which former Supreme Court of Mississippi Chief of Justice is present in this meeting?

Answer: James W. Smith Jr.

Smith Jr., a judge who served as Chief of Justice of the Supreme Court of Mississippi from 2004 to 2008, is among the congregation in this meeting. Republican representative Chip Pickering is also there. The church people think his name is Bolak, but regardless of this, they tell him Jesus loves him and can heal the pain in his heart.
13. Borat goes to Los Angeles by bus with fellow church members, and when he arrives, he finds Azamat impersonating Oliver Hardy. However, Borat thinks he is dressed as which person?

Answer: Adolf Hitler

Borat sees Azamat and confronts him. As he "did not go to Los Angeles to see a man dressed like Hitler, but to make Pamela Anderson his wife", he forgives Azamat, who has prepared a folder with all of Pamela's upcoming events.
14. Borat plans to marry Pamela Anderson during an autograph signing session. In which store, located in Orange, California, does this take place?

Answer: Virgin Megastore

Borat prepares himself with a traditional Kazakh marriage sack, attempting to teach America how to perform a traditional Kazakh wedding. He is ready to do so, and he says it is not necessary for Pamela to agree, so he tries to kidnap her by getting her into the sack.

He is arrested by the security guards, and says he is not attracted to Pamela anymore. Pamela Anderson actually acted for the movie, but the rest were real people, amazed at what was going on!
15. Borat's adventure through America is over, and he learns "if you chase a dream, you can miss the real beauty in front of your eyes". He is talking about Luenell, who he takes back home with him. At the end, we see a new technological advancement in the country. Which device, designed by Apple, is this?

Answer: iPod

Borat claims that when he got an iPod, his neighbor only could afford an iPod mini, which he says is "for little girls". The film ends with the music of the fake anthem of Kazakhstan.
