Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In 'Carry On Cowboy', the eleventh in the series, what is the name of the character played by Jim Dale?

Answer: Marshall P Knutt

Marshall P Knutt arrives in Washington, from England, determined to bring the latest in sanitary technology to America. He walks into the wrong office and is mistaken, because of his first name, for the new peace officer of Stodge City. Marshall arrives at Stodge City and tries to help the townsfolk get rid of The Rumpo Kid, played by Sid James. His only real allies are a revenge seeking Annie Oakley and his knowledge of sewerage systems.
Little Heap is the first appearance of Bernard Bresslaw.
2. The twelfth film of the series, released in 1966, is a parody of the Hammer films that were also popular at the time. What is the title?

Answer: Carry On Screaming

'Carry On Screaming' is set in Edwardian England and begins with a young courting couple in the woods. The girl complains that there is someone watching and the boy, Jim Dale, replies that in a year of dating "there's been nothing worth watching so far". Despite this he goes off to look and returns to find her missing.
He reports the facts to Constable Slobotham who passes it on to Sergeant Bung.
Most of the rest of the film centers around an old house which is a parody on the vampire castle of the classic horror movies. Very near the end is a classic bit of Kenneth Williams when he is being dragged into a vat of oil and calls out "Frying tonight".
3. In which 'Carry On' do we meet the character Lord Darcy Pue, played by Jim Dale?

Answer: Carry On - Don't Lose Your Head

In this film we see Sir Rodney Ffing (Effing) and Lord Darcy Pue trying to save the French aristocrats from the guillotine. They are chased by Citizens Camembert and Bidet across both France and England. The Black Fingernail, a parody of The Scarlett Pimpernell, is Sir Rodney, who switches between a fop and something akin to a highwayman, depending on his location.
4. This 'Carry On' film was supposed to feature Sid James, but he had suffered a heart attack. His place was taken by Phil Silvers. It is the second film to not have 'Carry On' in its title. Which one is it?

Answer: Follow That Camel

'Follow That Camel' is a parody of Beau Geste. A spurned, but lovelorn Englishman joins the Foreign Legion. The similarity ends there. Sergeant Nocker is a hero to the Foreign Legion, going on many solo missions. In reality he is staying in the town at a local 'cafe' with the female owner ZigZig. On being threatened with exposure by new recruit Bo West, he makes sure that West's life in the Legion is as comfortable as possible. Meanwhile West's love interest arrives and is taken captive by Abdul Abulbul.

The rest of the film is about Nocker's and West's attempts to rescue her.
5. In this 'Carry On' an injured 'healer' is admitted to hospital. Dr Kilmore is found in a compromising position on the roof of the nurses home and Dr Tinkler tries to get rid of him. Can you name the film?

Answer: Carry On Doctor

In 'Carry On Doctor' Francis Biggar, played by Frankie Howard, is a 'preacher' and 'healer' who is admitted to hospital. He doesn't get any converts. Jim Dale plays Dr Kilmore who is sacked by Dr Tinkle. There is a reference in this film to the earlier 'Carry On Nurse'. Someone walks into the ward carrying a daffodil and Biggar remarks 'Oh no you don't. I've seen that film'.
6. 'Carry On Up The Khyber' features an appearance by Roy Castle. Which character does he play?

Answer: Captain Keene

Captain Keene is the officer in charge of the 3rd Foot and Mouth, a Highland regiment charged with the security of the Khyber Pass. "The Devils in Skirts" suffer a blow to their reputation when Private Jimmy Widdle is found to wear underpants beneath his kilt. It is up to Captain Keene to restore the regimental honour and save the Empire from being overthrown in India.
7. Which 'Carry On' film has the subtitle 'Let Sleeping Bags Lie'?

Answer: Carry on Camping

Sid and Bernie decide to take their girlfriends on a camping holiday after watching a film on naturism. Typically they arrive at the wrong campsite and the girls insist on a separate tent. The boy's holiday perks up when a group of girls from a boarding school arrive.

The group is accompanied by Dr Soaper, Kenneth Williams, and the school matron, Hattie Jacques. It is in this film that Barbara Windsor's bikini top flies off during excersise.
8. In 'Carry On Again Doctor' Doctor Nookey runs a plastic surgery clinic.

Answer: False

Dr Nookey is disgraced and sent to a remote island to run the local hospital. Here he meets Gladstone Screwer who has discovered a slimming potion. It is with this that Dr Nookey opens a clinic back in England. It is such a success that others want a slice of the action. Some think he's got to big for his boots.
9. Which 'Carry On' has the tag line 'Who were you expecting . . . the galloping gourmet?' and features characters called Upsidaisi and Tonka the Great?

Answer: Carry On Up The Jungle

'Carry On Up The Jungle' is about Lady Bagley's search for her long lost husband and baby son. She finances an expedition to darkest Africa, led by Bill Boosey. They are joined by ornithologist Professor Inigo Tinkle who is searching for the elusive Oozlum bird, a rare species which flies in ever decreasing circles before disappearing up its own rear end. During the trip they encounter a tribe of women, from the lost land of Aphrodisia, called the Lubby Dubbys who want the male members of the expedition for breeding purposes. Can Lady Bagley's son, now the Tarzan like Ugg, rescue them, and do they want him to?
10. Set in Much-Snogging-On-The-Green the 20th 'Carry On' is about the clients of the Wedded Bliss matrimonial agency. What is its title?

Answer: Carry On Loving

Wedded Bliss is run by Sidney Bliss and his 'wife' Sophie Plummett. It matches clients by computer technology, which in reality is just a box with a few flashing lights and Sophie sat in the next room picking matches at random. Sophie is desperate to get Sid to marry her for real but he is more interested in one of their clients, Esme Crowfoot.
