When the regularly scheduled opponent for boxing champion Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers) has to withdraw at the last minute, the fight promoter Jergens (Thayer David) scrambles to find a suitable opponent. When none of the obvious choices are available, Apollo suggests giving a local underdog a shot.

In this scene, the promoter is showing Apollo a book of Philadelphia fighters and says the first line. When Apollo spots Rocky's nickname, he says the second. He smells a marketing bonanza. In the 1977 Academy Awards, "Rocky" won three Oscars, including Best Picture. Sylvester Stallone, Burt Young, Burgess Meredith, and Talia Shire were all nominated for awards but didn't win.

The famous line from this movie "Yo, Adrian" was voted as the number 80 (out of 100) all-time best movie quote by the American Film Institute.

This entertaining movie follows the activities of a top-secret organization under Chief Zed (Rip Torn) that monitors and polices alien activity on earth. New recruit Agent J (Will Smith) and Agent K (Tommy Lee Jones) often use tabloid stories like "An Alien Stole My Husband's Skin" to keep abreast of new developments they should investigate.

In this scene (the last scene in the movie) newest recruit Agent L (Linda Fiorentino) says the first line to Jay (Agent J) and he responds with line two. In the 1998 Academy Awards, "Men in Black" won one Oscar and was nominated for two others.

The impressive special effects were another successful creation of George Lucas' company Industrial Light and Magic (ILM).

In the events leading up to this scene the Kansas farmhouse Dorothy Gale (Judy Garland) lives in is picked up by a tornado and deposited in the magical Land of Oz. In this scene Miss Gulch, the Wicked Witch of the West (Margaret Hamilton) orders Dorothy to surrender the magical ruby red slippers that she has on, but Glinda, the Good Witch of the North (Billie Burke) waves her magic wand and fixes them so they stay on Dorothy.

The foiled Wicked Witch says line one as she leaves and the Good Witch says line two.

In the 1940 Academy Awards "The Wizard of Oz" won two Oscars and was nominated for four others, including Best Picture. Best Picture that year was won by "Gone with the Wind." The song "Over the Rainbow" won the Oscar for Best Original Song. Poor Margaret Hamilton had her life turned upside down after appearing as the Wicked Witch in this movie. For years after it was released, whenever she would go anywhere in public little children would recoil and start to cry at the sight of her.

This must have been very unsettling for her since she genuinely loved children (her first job was as a kindergarten teacher).

In the events leading up to this scene, labor lawyer Robert Clayton Dean (Will Smith) is given (unbeknownst to him) an incriminating videotape that shows the assassination of a U.S. Congressman (Jason Robards). A treacherous National Security Administration official named Thomas Reynolds (Jon Voight) and his gang are responsible for the assassination and they start chasing Dean using bugs and surveillance satellites trying to get the tape.

In this scene Dean has just met his long-time but secretive information supplier Edward "Brill" Lyle (Gene Hackman), who wants to know if the gang is after him too. Dean replies with line one and Brill reacts to that response with line two.

This fast-paced (average shot length about 2.4 seconds) action thriller is one my favorites.

Answer: Erin Brockovich

In the events leading up to this scene, assistant Erin Brockovich (Julia Roberts) in the small law office of Ed Masry (Albert Finney) discovers that an unusually high number of illnesses, cancers and miscarriages plaguing the people in the little town of Hinkley, California are being caused by the chemical Chromium-6 in the waste water of power company Pacific Gas and Electric (PGandE).

She persuades Masry to file a class-action lawsuit against PGandE. In this scene a preliminary meeting between company lawyers and Masry's team is taking place.

He has padded the seats on his side of the table with some non-lawyers from his office and told them to "just keep your mouths shut." Brockovich says line one to PGandE Representative Ms. Sanchez (Gina Gallego) just as she is about to drink a glass of water.

After hearing Brockovich she puts the glass down without drinking and says line two. "Erin Brockovich" was nominated for Best Picture in the 2001 Academy Awards but was beaten out by "Gladiator." Julia Roberts won an Oscar for Best Actress in a Leading Role for her portrayal of Erin Brockovich.

Much of this movie is based on a true story.

In this scene Rose Castorini (Olympia Dukakis) and professor Perry (John Mahoney) are walking home after eating dinner together at the Grand Ticino Italian restaurant. He would like to come in her house but she says no. When he says he is cold, she says, "You're just a little boy and you want to be bad." Then he invites her to his apartment and she comments with line one.

He replies with line two. In the 1988 Academy Awards "Moonstruck" won three Oscars and was nominated in three more categories (including Best Picture). Best Picture that year was won by "The Last Emperor." John Mahoney would later achieve considerable success on the American TV show "Frasier."

In this scene, three professors specializing in parapsychology are thrown out of their college and are discussing forming a business that specializes in ghost removal. Dr. Raymond Stantz (Dan Aykroyd) is not so sure, however, and comments, "You don't know what it's like out there. I've worked in the private sector.

They expect results!" This proposed business is to be financed by mortgaging the house of Dr. Stantz and he protests with line one. Dr. Peter Venkman (Bill Murray) reassures him with line two.

In the 1985 Academy Awards "Ghost Busters" was nominated for Best Visual Effects but was beaten out by "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom." The special effects in both of these movies were created by Industrial Light and Magic, the company George Lucas started.

In the events leading up to this scene Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) has successfully retrieved an ancient idol from a Peruvian temple in South America, only to be forced to surrender it to rival archeologist Dr. Rene Belloq (Paul Freeman). He manages to escape but the native warriors working for Belloq run after him, firing blow darts.

He makes to a nearby river where an open cockpit plane on pontoons waits for him and barely makes it aboard with the natives in hot pursuit. In this scene Indy discovers a snake in his compartment and yells line one to the pilot Jock (Fred Sorenson). Jock yells back line two.

The opening sequence with all the booby traps in the Peruvian temple is partly based on a Donald Duck/Scrooge McDuck adventure called "The Prize of Pizarro" ("Uncle $crooge" no. 26, June-August 1959). Both Director Steven Spielberg and co-writer George Lucas were often inspired by comic book stories.

In the events leading up to this scene the parents of Chicago teenager Joel Goodson (Tom Cruise) leave him in charge of their house while they are on vacation. Goaded on by his friend Miles (Curtis Armstrong) Joel eventually gets hooked up with sexy call girl Lana (Rebecca De Mornay) and spends the night with her.

The next day Joel has to leave for school and reluctantly leaves her alone in the house. As he leaves he warns her with line one. She replies with line two. This is Curtis Armstrong's first movie. I didn't realize this myself, but according to the IMDb, actor Sean Penn makes a cameo appearance in this movie (as the man sitting in the passenger seat as Joel first takes the Porsche for a spin).

Answer: My Cousin Vinny

In the events leading up to this scene, two young men from New York are driving across Alabama when they are stopped and jailed on suspicion of robbery and murder. The lawyer they choose to represent them is Vincent "Vinny" Gambini (Joe Pesci), a cousin of one of them, but he has very little experience with none of it being on murder cases.

In this scene Vinny wants to question his girlfriend Mona Lisa Vito (Marisa Tomei) as an automotive expert, but she doesn't want him to. He asks the judge (Fred Gwynne) if he can question her as a hostile witness with line one and she then comments to Vinny with line two.

When the judge asks if they know each other and Vinny explains she is his fiancée, the judge remarks, "Well, that would certainly explain the hostility." Marisa won for Best Actress in a Supporting Role at the 1993 Academy Awards. Seeing her in tight stretch pants with a Brooklyn accent in the Deep South was hilarious.
