"Australia" is a 2008 film starring Nicole Kidman as Lady Sarah Ashley, a British aristocratic woman who inherits her late husband's cattle ranch in Australia. While in Australia, she meets and befriends some of the local Aboriginal people, including King George and his grandson Nullah (David Gulpilil and Brandon Walters). Lady Sarah hires Drover (Hugh Jackman) who helps her drive her cattle across the country to Darwin for sale but this film takes place during World War II and the Japanese are gearing up to bomb Darwin.
2. Virginia Woolf, a suicidal author

"The Hours" is a 2002 film that tells the story of three women, each living in a different time period. The main focus is on Nicole Kidman's Virginia Woolf, the famous author. Woolf is writing "Mrs. Dalloway" as she battles severe depression that ultimately leads to her suicide via drowning. Decades later, Laura Brown (Julianne Moore) is a depressed housewife whose marriage is rocky. She reads "Mrs. Dalloway" and begins to contemplate suicide herself. Decades after that, Meryl Streep plays Clarissa Vaughn who resembles Mrs. Dalloway in many ways, including her throwing a party for her sick friend Richie (Ed Harris) who suffers from AIDS. Clarissa, who also shares her first name with Mrs. Dalloway, also suffers from depression.

Nicole Kidman won a Best Actress Oscar for her role in this film in 2003, defeating her costar Julianne Moore who was nominated for another film.
3. Grace Stewart, whose home may be haunted

"The Others" is a 2001 horror film starring Nicole Kidman as Grace Stewart. Grace's husband Charles (Christopher Eccleston) is serving in World War II and she lives with her children in the Channel Islands. Her kids, Anne and Nicholas (Alakina Mann and James Bentley), suffer from photosensitivity and thus almost never leave the house and believe that their house is haunted. Grace, however, thinks the kids are making things up until mysterious incidents start happening to her. Fionnula Flanagan also stars as Bertha Mills, one of Grace's servants who worked in the same house years and years prior.
4. Sue Brierley, who adopted a son from India

"Lion" is a 2016 film based on a true story. Dev Patel stars as Saroo, an Indian-Australian man. Saroo was adopted by the Brierleys (Nicole Kidman and David Wenham) in Australia after he got lost and separated from his family in Calcutta. Saroo travels to India to see if he can find his biological family and establish relations with them. Sunny Pawar plays the child Saroo.

Nicole Kidman was nominated for a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role in this film but lost to Viola Davis for "Fences".
5. Norma Jean, a mother penguin

"Happy Feet" is a 2006 animated film starring Elijah Wood as the voice of Mumble, a young penguin. Mumble was born to Norma Jean and Memphis (Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman) but due to an accident with his egg, Memphis is unable to sing like other penguins.

However, he can dance. Mumble is attracted to Gloria (Brittany Murphy) but penguins use their songs to attract mates and Mumble is the worst singer in Antarctica.
6. Satine, a French courtesan

In this 2001 musical, Nicole Kidman stars as lead courtesan (or performer) Satine and Ewan McGregor as Christian, a writer. Christian suffers from depression and moves into the seedy part of Paris where he meets the artist Toulouse-Lautrec (John Leguizamo) who takes him to the Moulin Rouge club for partying. Christian immediately falls for Satine who seems to love him back. However, the Duke of Monroth (Richard Roxburgh) is also in love with Satine and he has power and sway over the Moulin Rouge.

Nicole Kidman was nominated for a Best Actress Oscar for her role in this film but lost to Halle Berry for "Monster's Ball".

"Nine" is a 2009 musical starring Daniel Day-Lewis as Guido Contini, an Italian filmmaker. Guido is struggling to write his next screenplay after his last two films were failures. He seeks inspiration from a variety of sources including his wife, Luisa (Marion Cotillard) and his mistress Carla (Penelope Cruz).

His struggles with his career begin to take their toll on his personal relationships, which he ignores in favor of his career. Nicole Kidman stars as Claudia Jenssen, an actress and leading lady in many of Guido's films. Sophia Loren also stars as Guido's mother Mamma Contini.
8. Ada Monroe, whose lover is fighting in the U.S. Civil War

"Cold Mountain" is a 2003 film starring Jude Law as W.P. Inman, a Confederate soldier. During the Civil War, Inman joined the Confederate Army but left behind Ada (Nicole Kidman) whom he hopes to marry. As the war progresses, Inman is seriously injured and knows the Confederacy will not win and thus hopes to desert the Army and return to Ada. Meanwhile, Ada has been working with Ruby (Renee Zellwegger) in order to save her father's farm, which is her only source of income.
9. Alice Harford, who is having relationship issues with her husband

Answer: Eyes Wide Shut

"Eyes Wide Shut" is a 1999 film starring Nicole Kidman as Alice Harford and her then husband Tom Cruise as Dr. Bill Harford. Alice and Bill are happily married but jealousy starts to become between them when two attractive girls flirt with Bill and Alice admits to having dreams where she is with another man. Bill begins looking to explore his fantasies and winds up at an adult party where the men wear masks.

Despite his disguise, he is recognized and becomes the victim of threats and intimidation.
10. Becca Corbett, whose son was killed in a car accident

"Rabbit Hole" is a 2010 film starring Nicole Kidman as Becca Corbett and Aaron Eckhart as her husband Howie. Becca and Howie's four year old son Danny is killed when he is hit by a car and the incident sends Becca into a downward spiral. She is eager to get rid of Danny's things and this puts stress on her marriage as Howie believes Becca is trying to purge Danny from their lives.

Nicole Kidman was nominated for a Best Actress Oscar for her role in this film but lost to Natalie Portman for "Black Swan".
