Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. When the Queen's army reached the place where Aslan's army was waiting, the two sides stood and sized each other up for a few minutes. It was the Queen's army that actually delivered the first blows.

Answer: False

The first damage came from Aslan's army (being led by Peter in Aslan's absence). The eagles and griffins (and other winged creatures) flew above the Queen's army and dropped large rocks on them.
2. What wonderful steed did Peter ride into battle?

Answer: a white unicorn

Because Aslan had offered himself in sacrifice, in exchange for Edmund's life, he was not there when the battle began. Due to the prophecy, the centaur assumed that Peter would naturally take Aslan's role at the head of the army, and Peter reluctantly agreed.

While watching the witch approach, Peter was mounted on a beautiful white unicorn. The unicorn obviously carried him willingly, as no bridle or saddle was necessary as Peter rode into battle.
3. Both Peter and Edmund carried shields into battle. What did Peter's look like?

Answer: silver with a red lion

The lion obviously represented Aslan. However, the 'lion rampant' (standing on its high legs), has historically been a British emblem. It is currently the symbol that is on one of the two Scottish flags (the other being the Cross of St. Andrew). It was incorporated into the British Coat of Arms when Scotland and England first shared a king, James the First, in 1603.
Edmund's shield was red and gold with a lion's head, which is difficult to see in the movie.
4. What creatures pulled the Queen's chariot into battle?

Answer: polar bears

The white witch's predilection for eternal winter was obvious in her choice of creatures to pull her various carriages. She used white reindeer to pull her sleigh, and white polar bears to pull her chariot into battle. It was interesting to note which animals fought on which side of the battle.

For example, cheetahs fought with Aslan's army, while tigers fought on the side of the queen. A rhinoceros, stereo-typically depicted as being bad tempered and evil, fought on the side of our friends.
5. What was the Queen wearing around her neck when she rode into battle?

Answer: Aslan's mane

When the Queen demanded Edmund's life, as allowed to her by the ancient magic of Narnia, Aslan offered himself up in sacrifice in exchange. When he went to the stone table to be sacrificed, the Queen had him bound and had his mane shaved to humiliate him, before killing him.

She wore this into battle, as a symbol of her triumph over him. She was shocked when he returned to life (mane intact) due to the selflessness of his sacrifice and his purity of soul.
6. What kind of creature was the Queen's main general?

Answer: a minotaur

The large black minotaur (according to legend, a minotaur is part bull and part human) obviously had a leadership role in the Queen's army. The Queen was heard speaking to him and calling him General.
7. Who broke the Queen's magic staff?

Answer: Edmund

The Queen used her magical staff to turn creatures into stone. Edmund slashed this staff with his sword, to stop her from using it on Peter. The Queen used the shattered end of her staff to stab Edmund, delivering a nasty wound, but not pertrifying him. Edmund was later cured with Lucy's healing potion (that she got from Father Christmas).
8. Who killed the dwarf, the Queen's minion and almost constant companion?

Answer: Susan

After the Queen stabbed Edmund with her broken staff, the dwarf, who was pretty much her constant companion throughout the movie, moved in to finish Edmund off. Susan, arriving in the nick of time, used the bow and arrow given to her by Father Christmas, to kill the dwarf before he could kill her brother.
9. What creature created the swath of fire that separated the two armies and allowed Peter's army to retreat?

Answer: a phoenix

Lit by a burning arrow, the phoenix laid down a wall of fire between the two armies, temporarily stopping the advance of the Queen's army. Peter took this opportunity to order his troops, who were not doing so well against the Queen's larger numbers, to fall back.
A phoenix is a mythical bird that can burn and then rise again from the ashes. 'Harry Potter' fans may recognize this as being the type of bird that is Dumbledore's loyal friend.
10. When Aslan arrived at the battle, he brought a large number of reinforcements with him. Where did he get these creatures from?

Answer: the Queen's palace

After being sacrificed on the stone table, Aslan was brought back to life by the ancient magic. Taking Susan and Lucy with him upon his back, he ran to the Queen's castle. There he breathed life into all of the creature she had petrified. These creatures then accompanied him back to the battle, where their numbers helped change the outcome of the battle.

The fact that Aslan disposed of the Queen was also an important, contributing factor.
