When Mr. Weasley and Harry are in the elevator in the Ministry of Magic on the way to Harry's hearing, several lavender paper airplanes fly in and circle the ceiling. Mr. Weasley explains that they are inter-departmental memos and that they used to use owls for that purpose, but the mess was unbelievable.

Answer: Professor Grubbly-Plank

At the welcoming feast, Dumbledore announces that Professor Grubbly-Plank will once again temporarily teach Care of Magical Creatures. We find out later that Dumbledore has sent Hagrid to parlay with the giants, to try to keep them from siding with Voldemort.

Answer: He uses the portraits in his office.

From his office, Dumbledore sends Everard to the Ministry to check Arthur's condition and sends Phineas Nigellis to the Order's headquarters to let them know that the Weasley children will be arriving by Portkey. Wizards in portraits can move very quickly to another portrait of the same person even if it is far away.

Answer: Mafalda Hopkirk

Mafilda works for the Ministry in the Improper Use of Magic department. Her voice comes from a magical letter that arrives at the Dursley house. Harry is not yet 17 years old so it is illegal for him to use magic outside of school.

Answer: Seamus Finnigan

We learn this when Harry enters the Gryffindor common room, as the students return to Hogwarts in September. Seamus' mother believes the newspaper reports in the Daily Prophet, that Harry and Dumbledore are lying about Lord Voldemort's return. Seamus later apologizes to Harry when it becomes obvious that what he and Dumbledore are saying is true.

At Harry's hearing for using illegal underage magic, Dumbledore appears as a witness for the defense and announces his full name. The Minister for Magic is surprised to see him, since the Ministry had secretly changed the time and place of the hearing, hoping that Harry would have no one present to speak on his behalf.

Answer: He sees a thestral flying over the forest and is curious. Luna happens to be there.

Thestrals are skeletal, horse-like creatures with wings. They pull the carriages that take Hogwarts students from the train to the school. Most students cannot see them and think the carriages are moved by magic. This year Harry can see them and Luna explains that they are visible only to those who have seen death.
Luna had seen her mother die from a spell gone 'badly wrong', and Harry saw
Cedric Diggory killed the previous spring, during the Tri-Wizard Cup competition.

Answer: Until it sinks in

Harry is ordered to serve detention in Umbridge's office, for speaking about Voldemort in class. The quill that Umbridge has Harry use carves the lines into the flesh of the back of his hand (so the "lesson sinks in") as well as writing it on the parchment. She believes that Harry is lying about Lord Voldemort's return and wants to silence him.

Answer: The Hogs Head Inn

The students are learning nothing in their Defense Against the Dark Arts class, and Hermione thinks Harry should teach them to defend themselves. She invites a few students who feel the same way to a meeting but many more show up. Hermione chooses the Hog's Head because she wants a place where the students aren't likely to be seen or overheard.

The stunning spell renders the target unconscious. Expecto Patronum produces a person's patronus, an animal-shaped smokey cloud that protects against dementors. Expelliarmus is the disarming spell, it knocks an opponent's wand out of his hand. I made up Sunfragis because it sounds like it could be true!
