Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. At the beginning of 'Paddington 2', an actor (well, according to Mrs. Bird, a former actor who now only does dog food commercials) opened the fair. What was his myth-inspired name?

Answer: Phoenix Buchanan

Phoenix Buchanan had once been a successful actor, but his fame had dwindled over time and he was struggling to secure high calibre roles, like Hamlet and Poirot, as he had in previous years. He had his heart set on a one-man show to exhibit his past roles; he just needed the funding for it.
2. What gift did Paddington want to buy for Aunt Lucy?

Answer: A pop-up book of London

Aunt Lucy was in Peru in a home for retired bears. Paddington had learned all about Britain from her and Uncle Pastuzo, but neither of them had ever visited. Aunt Lucy had always wanted to see London, so when Paddington saw the pop-up book in an antique shop, he knew he had to buy it for her birthday. Paddington went job-hunting so that he could afford the present.
3. Which crime was Paddington arrested for?

Answer: Grand theft

Paddington was saving up his wages to buy Aunt Lucy a pop-up book of London for her birthday. One night, as he was passing Gruber's antique shop, he witnessed a thief breaking in. Paddington tried to chase the man, but he got away. By the time the police arrived on the scene, the pop-up book was gone and Paddington was the only suspect.

There was no evidence to suggest there had been another thief, so he was arrested.
4. Why was the judge biased against Paddington?

Answer: Paddington gave the judge a bad haircut.

One of the jobs Paddington tried his hand at was sweeping up in a barber's shop. While the real barber popped out, a man came in demanding a trim. Paddington wanted to oblige, but the electric razor turned out to be too powerful: he accidentally shaved a line through the middle of the man's head. Later, at the trial, that man turned out to be the judge who was sentencing Paddington.
5. What was Mr. Brown wearing when he and his wife entered the suspects' home?

Answer: Pyjamas

Phoenix Buchanan bought insurance from the company Mr. Brown worked for - in fact, he was a member of the platinum club. Mary Brown knew Paddington was innocent and began to suspect Phoenix of being the true thief. She (along with Jonathan, Judy, and Mrs. Bird) came up with a plan to enter his house and look for evidence. As she was snooping around, Henry Brown saw her through a window. Still wearing his pyjamas, he went out to confront her.

While Mr. and Mrs. Brown were in the actor's home, Phoenix arrived. He caught them trying to hide behind the furniture. The quick-thinking Mr. Brown told Phoenix that platinum club members received an annual inspection of home security.
6. Why did the Browns miss visiting hour at the prison?

Answer: They were hunting for the real criminal.

Paddington put his trust in the Brown family and believed that they would save him. The other prisoners, however, believed that his family would eventually forget about him. They would miss one visiting hour, and then another, until ultimately they would never return. Paddington kept his faith in his family until he was left sitting in the visiting room alone with no one to talk to.

The Browns were on Phoenix Buchanan's trail and didn't notice the time until it was too late.
7. How did Paddington and the prisoners escape?

Answer: They made a hot air balloon and floated out of prison.

Knuckles, Phibs, and Spoon came up with a plan to escape from prison. They asked Paddington to join them, offering to help him prove his innocence once they were free. The four prisoners crawled around the prison, using the laundry chute and taking a huge clothes basket with them. They took the basket to the top of the prison tower and opened out a huge, home-made hot-air balloon.
8. A selection of London landmarks had letters inscribed on them. What did they correspond to?

Answer: Notes on the carnival organ

Phoenix Buchanan's grandfather was a magician at a travelling fairground. He had been jealous of the success of another performer in the carnival, who regularly received gifts of expensive jewellery. The magician killed her, but the treasure was locked away. Each page of the pop-up book contained a London landmark, and each real-life landmark had a letter inscribed on it. Phoenix had gone to each place and collected the clues he needed to find the treasure.

The letters corresponded with notes on the fairground organ.

When played in order, the organ opened up and revealed the riches hidden inside.
9. What did Jonathan drive in order to rescue Paddington?

Answer: A steam train

The fairground - along with the treasure - was leaving London on a train. Paddington made it aboard, but by the time the Browns arrived, the train had departed. Thinking on his feet, Jonathan commandeered a steam train from a nearby platform. The family were able to catch up with Paddington and give him a hand in capturing Phoenix.
10. Who knocked on the door of the Brown's house at the end of the film?

Answer: Aunt Lucy

It was Aunt Lucy's birthday and Paddington was upset because he hadn't been able to send the book as a birthday present. In fact, he'd been unconscious for three days and hadn't sent her anything at all. Fortunately, his friends clubbed together to pay for Aunt Lucy to visit London in person.
