Answer: The sewers

Ramon the alligator was flushed down a toilet as a baby. He survived in the sewer system by devouring the carcasses of laboratory animals that had undergone hormone treatments from a mad scientist. Due to the hormone levels found in the animals he ate, Ramon grew into a giant alligator.
Alligators living in sewers have been an urban legend since Robert Daley's book "The World Beneath the City" was published in 1959. Biologists dispute that alligators could actually thrive and survive in the sewers because there is no sunlight down there, it is colder than the type of environment an alligator needs, sewers are filthy, and there are few sources of food down there--unless the sewer runs under the laboratory of a mad scientist.
So rest easy. There are no alligators in your sewer. You have to admit, it would be pretty crappy if there were, though.

Answer: Tremors

In the movie there were four Graboids. They were attracted to vibration and could tunnel incredibly swiftly to reach their prey. At one point they managed to disable the telephone lines into town and even blocked the road with a rockslide. In this comedy/horror film, the characters played by Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward finally manage to kill all four creatures one by one.
Except they didn't. "Tremors" spawned two sequels, a prequel, and a television series.
Those Graboid worms sure were scary. I always thought worms were spineless creatures.

Answer: It made them giants.

Not only did the rats become giant-sized but so did worms and wasps--and one killer chicken. The wasps killed some people. The rats killed some people. The worms mostly made giant-sized worm casts. The rats were finally stopped when someone blew up a dam and flooded the island.

The rats were too heavy to swim so they drowned. The wasps grew tired while flying and fell into the water and drowned. The worms apparently just drowned. And the chicken was mad as a wet hen. End of story... or was it? Actually it wasn't. Thirteen years later, "The Food of the Gods II" was released. That movie was about giant laboratory animals (rats) that terrorized a university. For good measure "The Food of the Gods II" also had a man-sized murdering cancerous mass in place of a killer chicken.

Answer: Lake Placid

The movie starred Bill Pullman and Bridget Fonda. Betty White was also in the movie as a slightly crazy resident of Black Lake (the fictional lake in the movie). One of the crocodiles was eventually blown up with a grenade launcher. The other was shot with tranquilizer darts, tied up and taken away for further study.

At the end of the movie the Betty White character was seen feeding a bunch of baby crocodiles, thus presaging the release of "Lake Placid 2" in 2007. It would have been cool if the final scene had Betty White's character saying, "See you after awhile, crocodile." You know that if I was the director it would have ended that way.

Answer: Ants

The ants become giant-sized after nuclear devices were set off in the New Mexico desert. They first attacked a vacationing family to get to the sugar in their trailer. A little girl from the family was found wandering catatonic in the desert. Eventually a scientist determined that the family may have been attacked by ants. To test his theory he had the little girl smell a vial of formic acid. Once she did, she came out of her catatonic state and began to mutter, "Them.

Them." Eventually the ant colony was found and destroyed by poison gas canisters dropped by the Air Force.

It was discovered that two queen ants had flown off. The first was found hiding in a ship filled with sugar. The ship was sunk by the Navy. The other queen was found in the Los Angeles sewer system.

She and her nest were eventually dispatched with flamethrowers. Presumably the Army did that. Purportedly a deleted scene had the ants attacking the English department of a university. Every professor could be seen running around maniacally with an antonym.

Answer: Killer bees

The film starred, among others, Michael Caine, Katherine Ross, Richard Widmark, Richard Chamberlain, Olivia DeHavilland, Lee Grant, Jose Ferrer, Patty Duke, Slim Pickens, Fred MacMurray and Henry Fonda (yes, Henry Fonda).
Killer bees are technically Africanized honey bees. They have been called killer bees because this particular species of bee will attack without provocation and in large numbers. Anyway, in this rare Irwin Allen dud of a movie, swarms of killer bees became tremendously aggressive, killing all the personnel at a military base. No one knew why. Several different methods of eradicating them were tried but there were just too many of them. Finally a scientist concocted a plan to spread oil in the Gulf of Mexico. The mating sound of the bees would be broadcast by speakers on rafts in the Gulf. All the bees would be drawn to the sound and land on the rafts, at which point missiles would be fired into the Gulf setting the oil on fire and killing all the bees. The scientist was killed (by bees) before he could tell anyone of this ingenious solution but luckily his notes were found.
The film was aptly named. People "swarmed" out of the theaters demanding their money back.

Answer: Wild pig

This film starred Gregory Harrison of "Trapper John, MD" (yes, Gregory Harrison of "Trapper John, MD"). A wildlife reporter journeyed into the Australian outback to investigate the rumored killing of wildlife for use in pet food. Two crazy locals set a giant wild pig on her and it killed her.

Her husband and an associate then arrived to investigate her death. They battled with the crazy locals (whose names in the movie are Benny and Dicko, not just "crazy locals") in the pet food factory where the razorback killed one of the locals and then was killed when it chased the husband and his associate up a conveyor belt and into a large fan. While the movie did win some cinematography and editing awards in Australia, it was not terribly successful at the box office. Most movie-goers found it to be a big bore.

Answer: Jaws

"Jaws" was based on the best-selling book by Peter Benchley. The shark was a great white shark that had somehow found its way off the coast of New England where, with July 4 approaching, there was plentiful human prey. "Jaws" was followed by "Jaws 2", "Jaws: The Revenge" and, perhaps presaging today's 3-D movie craze, "Jaws 3-D".
The great white shark in this movie killed many people but never seemed to have any feeling of "remoras".

Answer: Many different kinds

The first instance had a seagull attacking the Tippi Hedron character after she bought and delivered a couple of lovebirds from a pet store. More and more people were attacked by flocks of crows, seagulls and other birds and several people were killed.

There never is an explanation for the bird attacks although crows were determined to be the "caws" of death of many. The movie ended with the hero and heroine driving away from the California beach town while thousands of birds sat and watched them go.

Answer: Spiders

The "eight-legged freaks" in the movie were spiders. A barrel of toxic material was accidentally dumped into the reservoir of a small Arizona town. A local man who raised spiders regularly caught crickets at the reservoir to feed to his spiders. The spiders became aggressive from eating the irradiated crickets, eventually killed their owner and then grew to giant size.

They escaped and made their homes in the nearby mines. Unfortunately, the mines connected the whole town and the giant spiders began to show up everywhere. Eventually the spiders were trapped in the mines and the mines were filled with methane gas, which was then ignited, killing all the spiders. All in all, the writers spun a web of a tale.
