Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The movie began with the scene where six men, in their clown masks, robbed a bank. They killed one another to get a larger cut of the money. In the end, one man remained and he took off his mask only to reveal his true identity - the notorious Joker. What mode of transportation did he use to escape from the bank?

Answer: A school bus

The Joker was having a conversation with another man when a school bus crashed into the bank, killing off that man. The Joker put all the money onto the school bus and ran away. Before he escaped, he took off his mask and showed his face to the bank manager.

The Joker was played by Heath Ledger. This movie was his second last movie before his death on 22 January 2008, the last being "The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus", a fantasy-adventure mystery movie. His autopsy and toxicology analysis revealed that he died as a result of acute intoxication from the combined effects of several drugs.
2. Several men, who dressed up in Batman costumes, showed up in the meeting between the Scarecrow and the mob members. The fight broke up and eventually the real Batman saved the day. However, he was attacked and wounded by what animals?

Answer: Dogs

The mob members brought their dogs with them during the meeting. The dogs barked wildly when they saw the real Batman show up. The dogs were then released and they went after Batman. On the very next day, Bruce Wayne stitched himself up from the dog bite, as his loyal butler, Alfred, approached him. Bruce discussed with him that he needed a stronger suit.

The character of Bruce Wayne or Batman was played by the English actor, Christian Bale.
3. The Joker told the public that he would start killing innocent people until Batman revealed his true identity. Batman figured out that the Joker's next target was Anthony Garcia, the mayor. During that intense moment, Gordon dived in front and saved Anthony. In the midst of the panic scene, the police managed to capture one of the men. While Harvey Dent interrogated that man, whose name did he see on that man's uniform's name-tag?

Answer: Rachel Dawes

The man who was captured by the police was one of the men who were responsible for the plan to kill the mayor. Several men who were supposed to be in the parade were kidnapped and tied up. Their uniforms were taken. Harvey Dent, who was the Gotham district attorney, later interrogated that man in a truck. It was at that time when he noticed that the name-tag on that man's uniform bore the name of his girlfriend, Rachel Dawes. He quickly called Rachel to warn her about the dangerous situation.

Mayor Anthony Garcia was played by Nestor Carbonell, who played the character of Richard Alpert in "Lost".
4. The citizens were terrified at the sight of the brutal killings happening in the street. Bruce knew the Joker wanted him and he was ready to reveal his identity to the public. Nonetheless, who stepped up and said that he was Batman?

Answer: Harvey

Just as Bruce was about to reveal his true identity, Harvey announced that he was Batman. He was handcuffed and taken away. Harvey told Rachel that it was his own idea to do that, so that the real Batman would come and save him. However, Rachel thought that the idea was too risky and dangerous.

Many scenes in the movie were filmed in Chicago. The movie was filmed under the false title of "Rory's First Kiss" so that it would not attract the media's attention.
5. The Joker was eventually apprehended by the policemen, after the chase scene between the Joker and the Batman. What thing did the Joker put inside his cell mate's stomach, which he later used to help him escape from the prison?

Answer: A cell phone

The Joker's cell mate kept complaining that his stomach hurt but nobody paid attention to him, until the last minute when the correctional officers called in the paramedic team, only to find out that there was a cell phone in the man's stomach. It was too late for them because the Joker had made a call which detonated the bomb. The entire prison blew up after the Joker grabbed Lau and escaped.

It was the Joker's plan to implant the cell phone in that man's stomach earlier on and he deliberately wanted to get caught by the policemen so that he could end up in the same prison to blow up the place.

The soundtrack for the movie was composed by Hans Zimmer, who was also the music composer for "Gladiator".
6. The Joker told Bruce that he had kidnapped both Harvey and Rachel and had them placed in two different locations. It was up to Bruce now to determine who he should save. Bruce chose Rachel but when he opened the door he found that it was actually Harvey who was behind the door. Bruce saved Harvey but the latter's face was burnt. He woke up in the hospital and he was approached by the Joker, who was dressed up as a nurse. What nickname did Harvey call himself?

Answer: Two-Face

When Harvey was still new as an attorney, he was called "two-face" by the others. Now, waking up in the hospital bed with his left face burnt from the explosion, it reminded him of this nickname. The Joker manipulated him and turned him from a good attorney into an evil person.
7. The Joker carried out his next plan, where he forced two ferries to leave Gotham. One of them carried prisoners while the other one carried innocent citizens. The Joker said he was going to conduct a social experiment that night. Every person on both of the ferries had the chance to detonate the other ferry. They were given the time until midnight. If none of them made the move, then both of the ferries would explode. All the people on both ferries faced the dilemma and did not dare to kill off all the passengers in the other ferry. In the end, which ferry exploded?

Answer: Both ferries were safe.

On the ferry with prisoners, one of the prisoners asked for the detonator from the policeman. All the people on that ferry thought that he was going to blow up the other ferry with innocent citizens but, upon getting the detonator, he threw it into the sea.

Meanwhile, on the ferry with innocent citizens, they conducted a poll and the majority chose to detonate the other ferry with prisoners on it. However, nobody came forward to detonate the bomb. Finally, a man stood up and said he would do it. Fortunately, he changed his bad idea at the last moment because nothing happened when the clock struck midnight. Both ferries were safe.

The Joker was battling with Batman and the former told the latter that they were going to watch a great firework display. The people on the ferries proved that the Joker was wrong.
8. By using the sonar idea of Lucius Fox, Bruce transformed the citizen's cell phones into detecting and monitoring devices, to find out the Joker's location. Bruce said that if the Joker talked within the vicinity of a phone, Lucius could triangulate his location. Bruce said this great task could only be done by one person, who was Lucius himself. According to Bruce, what words should Lucius type in after he finished using the system?

Answer: "Lucius Fox"

Lucius first thought that it was an insane idea to use the citizens' cell phones to monitor the Joker. Bruce convinced him, by telling him that a great task like this should only be done by Lucius himself. Lucius agreed. Lucius was also being told that he should type in his own name after he detected the location of the Joker to shut down the system.
9. Harvey was devastated after Rachel's death. He kidnapped Gordon's wife and two kids. In the scene where he met Gordon, he said that he was going to let Gordon feel what he had felt when Rachel died. Harvey grabbed one of Gordon's kids and threatened to kill him. Did the kid die in the end?

Answer: No

Batman showed up and told Harvey to stop. He said Harvey should not blame Gordon for Rachel's death. Harvey said he would leave it to the coin to decide. The first coin landed on tails and Harvey shot Bruce. As he flipped the next coin to determine the kid's fate, Bruce got up and pushed him out of the window. Gordon's son was safe but Harvey died.
10. In the ending scene, Gordon's child asked his father why Batman was running away. Gordon replied, "He is not a hero, he is a silent guardian, a watchful protector, a ______." Fill in the quote.

Answer: Dark Knight

Bruce told Gordon that the public must not know about Harvey's killing because Harvey was a great attorney who had contributed greatly to the city. So, in order to cover up Harvey's story, Bruce chose to blame the whole incident on himself. The policemen showed up and Batman escaped in his Batpod.
