Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which actor portrayed a public official accused of not doing enough to control crime in the city?

Answer: Nestor Carbonell

Carbonell portrayed Mayor Anthony Garcia. Garcia was criticized by the media and several citizens of Gotham City for not doing enough to keep the city safe and allowing Batman to catch the criminals. One night, Commissioner Gordon found Garcia's obituary in the newspaper and noted that The Joker planned on killing him the following day at Commissioner Loeb's funeral (The Joker laced Loeb's glass with acid). On the day of the funeral, The Joker and his henchmen (several people he broke out of Arkham Asylum) kidnapped several Gotham City police officers and tied them up in a building. Batman figured out their location and went there.

When he got to the window, the shade rolled up and the men protecting Mayor Garcia were distracted, thus giving The Joker and his men a clear shot at killing Garcia. Gordon realized this and ran to get Garcia out of the way.

The Joker fired his shot and hit Gordon instead. Garcia survived but Gordon "died". It was revealed, about a half hour later, that Gordon had actually lived. Carbonell, a New York City native, can be seen in films like "The Lost City", "Manhood", "Jack the Dog" and also on several episodes of the TV show, "Lost".
2. Who played the police detective that Harvey Dent blamed for Rachel's death?

Answer: Monique Curnen

Curnen played Detective Anna Ramirez of The Gotham City Police Department. Ramirez's role did not become crucial in the film until later on when Harvey Dent transformed into Two Face. At one point, Dent claimed to be Batman and was taken into police custody and transported to the city jail. Dent did this so that The Joker would go after him and then the real Batman would have the opportunity to take down The Joker. Eventually, The Joker was caught and this was where we saw Jim Gordon alive and back from the dead. Dent got into a police car but, instead of being taken home, he was taken to an old warehouse, bound to a chair surrounded by oil cans. Around that same time, Rachel was taken to a safe location by men supervised by Detective Ramirez, but they took her to another warehouse, bound her to a chair and she was also surrounded by oil cans. Rachel died when a bomb went off but Dent survived, however his face was badly burned and he became Two Face. Dent was taken to the hospital and restrained to his hospital bed.

The Joker came, freed him, and he confronted Salvatore Maroni about finding out which officer was responsible for getting Rachel to the warehouse. He told him it was Ramirez. When Dent confronted Ramirez on this, she claimed that some men (presumably The Joker's) blackmailed her into doing this with information on hospital bills. Dent told her to call Gordon's wife and tell her to go to where Rachel died and that her husband, Jim (at this time, Jim was promoted to Police Commissioner), would be there any second. We last saw Ramirez punched in the face by Dent. Curnen's acting credits include guest spots on the TV series "ER", "House M.D.", "Day Break", "Dexter", and "Without a Trace". You can also catch her in the film, "Kate and Leopold".
3. This veteran actor had a short term role in which his character became one of The Joker's victims, as he drank out of a glass The Joker laced with acid. Who is he?

Answer: Colin McFarlane

It was McFarlane who played Police Commissioner Gillian B. Loeb in the film. McFarlane also appeared in the same role in "Batman Begins". Loeb's screen time in this film was limited since he was targeted by The Joker, along with Judge Surrillo and Harvey Dent. Loeb died about a third of the way through when he drank out of his glass that The Joker laced with acid. Jim Gordon attempted to revive him but it was too late. McFarlane, born in The United Kingdom, has had much experience in acting, starring in TV series like "Doctor Who", "As If", and "Jonathan Creek".

A couple of his film credits include roles in "Chunky Monkey" and "The Criminal".
4. Her character was the wife of a man who was thought to be dead but turned up alive. She almost lost her own life upon being kidnapped by a man literally scarred for life. Which actress is this?

Answer: Melinda McGraw

McGraw was the one who played Jim Gordon's wife, Barbara Gordon, in "The Dark Knight". It should be noted that Barbara Gordon was Gordon's wife in the comic books but in the "Batman" TV series from the 1960s, she was actually Gordon's daughter. We did not see much of Gordon in this film and she was a relatively minor character. We first saw her when a couple police officers informed her that Jim had "died".

The next time we saw her was upon Jim coming back from the dead and returning home to Barbara and his son, James Gordon, Jr.

The final scene that involved Barbara was near the end when she arrived at the site where Rachel died, per Detective Ramirez's call (see the interesting info section for question two), and Harvey Dent held her and both her children at gunpoint. Dent never harmed Barbara and she remained alive at the end of the movie. McGraw, born in Cypris, has credits spanning many television shows, including guest stints on "The West Wing", "Bones", and "Desperate Housewives", as well as several films, like "The Nutty Professor II: The Klumps", "Wrongfully Accused", and "Albino Alligator".
5. His portrayal of the corrupt businessman at Wayne Enterprises, who made deals with the mob, ended with an arrest, courtesy of Batman and a private jet. Who played this sneaky criminal?

Answer: Chin Han

Han portrayed Lau in "The Dark Knight". Lau was an employee at Wayne Enterprises in an executive position and fled to Hong Kong when it was revealed he had been handling the Gotham City mob's money. Harvey Dent, Jim Gordon, and Batman made a plan to get Lau back to Gotham City, since the Chinese could not extradite him. Batman traveled to Hong Kong and captured Lau, then sent a signal up to Wayne Enterprises' corporate jet to come get him.

He activated a parachute that got caught by the plane and dragged him and Lau up into the sky. Batman dropped Lau off right outside Gotham City Police Headquarters with a note to have him delivered to Lieutenant Gordon. Lau was taken into custody and questioned by Rachel Dawes.

He gave the names of all associates from the mob and Dent got to charge them in a RICO case. Han, born in Singapore, has a short resume with roles in the films "Blindness", "3 Needles", "2012", and a mini-series from the year 2000 known as "AlterAsians".
6. Before I died at The Joker's hands, I presided over the arrests of multiple criminals through a RICO case thanks to Harvey Dent's pursuit and love of justice. What actress am I?

Answer: Nydia Rodriguez Terracina

Terracina portrayed the judge in "The Dark Knight", but we only saw her in a few scenes throughout the film. When Lau gave up the names of the associates in the mob, she presided over the RICO case involving all of them. She read the charges, then asked how they all pled.

In a funny moment from the movie, all the criminals started talking at once so she could not hear their pleas. Surrillo then became the target of The Joker and was escorted out of her house by a couple of The Joker's thugs who posed as police officers.

They gave her a piece of paper as to where she was supposed to go once she got in her car. After getting into her car, Surrillo looked at the paper and it said she was to go "up". This is when her car exploded. Terracina has starred in the films "Backdraft", "My Best Friend's Wedding", "Richie Rich", "Chain Reaction" and "The Break-Up".
7. I had a short role in the opening scene as the bank manager. I ended up shooting one of The Joker's henchmen but wound up shot myself when I ran out of bullets. What is my name?

Answer: William Fichtner

Veteran actor Fichtner played the bank manager in the opening scenes, set at a bank in Gotham City. The Joker's men went to a bank run by the mob and robbed it. The manager got his shotgun and shot at The Joker's thugs but he was shot himself. He then gave a speech to the Joker and asked him what he believed in, to which The Joker replied, "I believe that what doesn't kill you simply makes you stranger." Fichtner, born on the Mitchell Field Air Force Base in Long Island, New York, has many acting credits, such as roles in the films "Armageddon", "Crash," "The Longest Yard" and "Black Hawk Down".

He also starred on the short lived TV series, "Invasion" and for several episodes of the TV show, "Prison Break".
8. My role is somewhat limited, in playing Gambol. I hired someone to bring me a dead or alive Joker but I wound up dead! Can you guess which actor I am?

Answer: Michael Jai White

Michael Jai White was the actor that starred as Gambol, a mob dealer in "The Dark Knight". Gambol's time was limited in this film, to a couple of scenes but they were memorable ones. In his first scene, he was with many mob dealers and associates discussing business, when The Joker came in laughing. Gambol said to him that he should have one of his men blow his head up and The Joker replied, "How about a magic trick?" The Joker set a pencil straight up onto the table and said he would make it disappear. Gambol's man went over to The Joker and that was where he tripped him and slammed his head onto the pencil, killing him. Gambol set out a price for anyone who caught The Joker with a payment of $500,000 to anyone that killed him or a million dollars for someone who caught him.

In the second scene, a man brought The Joker to Gambol "dead" and Gambol was about to pay him when The Joker arose and held a knife to Gambol's mouth. He proceeded to ask Gambol if he knew how he got the scars on his face.

The Joker claimed it was his father who, one night during a drunken rage, told him, "Why so serious? Let's put a smile on that face!" and used a knife to cut his mouth and thus gave him the scars. (Later on, The Joker changed his story when he confronted Rachel and said he gave himself the scars to match the scars on his wife). The Joker then cut up Gambol's mouth and killed him. Michael Jai White, who grew up in Brooklyn, has a resume that includes roles in the films "Spawn", "Ringmaster", "Getting Played", "Exit Wounds" and the TV movie "Mutiny". One of his television credits was one episode in 2003 on the CBS primetime series, "CSI: Miami".
9. My character almost revealed Batman's real name. In real life, what is my name?

Answer: Joshua Harto

Harto was the one who played Reese, a character who became very important near the end of the film. At one point, Reese went on a TV show and planned to reveal the identity of Batman. Before he could do so, The Joker interrupted his TV interview and said that, if Reese was not dead within an hour, he would blow up a hospital in Gotham City. Reese was taken into protective custody and about to be escorted out of a crowded building (crowded outside, that is) until a couple men shot at him before being taken down by police. Gordon and a couple of officers got Reese into a car and one officer told Gordon how his wife was in the hospital. Gordon told him to give him his gun since he felt the officer would shoot Reese so that the hospital where his wife was at would not blow to smithereens.

As he was about to give up his gun, he attempted to shoot Reese but Gordon prevented him from doing it. However, a car near the one where Reese was, attempted to crash into it to kill Reese. Bruce Wayne raced up to it and plowed right into the car, preventing the driver from smashing into the car where Reese was a passenger. Funnily enough, Wayne had no idea that Reese's life was in danger! Reese went on to live so The Joker made good on his promise and blew up Gotham City General Hospital.

Some of Harto's credits are roles in the movies "Iron Man", "Campfire Stories", "Peoples" and "The Believer". You may have also spotted him in three episodes from 2003 on the TV show, "That's So Raven".
10. Harvey Dent almost shot me in the head! When Batman tackled Harvey, I almost fell to the ground but Batman saved me. Which actor played me?

Answer: Nathan Gamble

It was Gamble who starred in "The Dark Knight" as the son of Barbara and James Gordon, Sr. We only saw him on two occasions in the film. The first one was when the police officers came to notify Barbara of Jim's "death" and James Jr. got a look at Batman. The next was when Harvey Dent held him, his mom, and his sister at gunpoint where Rachel died. Harvey took James Jr. and held him at gunpoint, threatening to shoot him in the head. Harvey tossed a coin up into the air to determine if he should kill James Jr. depending on where the coin landed. He flipped the coin and it landed on the side that meant James Jr. would be spared. Then, Dent planned to shoot himself and flipped a coin to determine his fate, all the while as he held James Jr. near him. When he flipped the coin, Batman tackled him and Dent fell over the ledge to his death. Batman grabbed onto James Jr. and brought him up to safety before he fell. James Sr. rushed down to see if either one was alive and Batman came to, but not Dent. Batman then said he would take the blame for Dent's death and James Sr. said his men would hunt him. When Batman ran off, James Jr. had just gotten down to where Dent had fallen to his death and that was where James Sr. gave the final monologue to the film. Gamble's other credits range from a guest spot on the TV show "Ghost Whisperer" to roles in the films "Babel", "Dry Rain" and "Marley and Me".
