Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the beginning of the movie, during the bank robbery, one of the bank personnel ended up having a conversation with one of the robbers. We found out that this robber was indeed Joker. The bank personnel asked what the robber believed in. What was Joker's response?

Answer: "What doesn't kill you makes you stranger."

Director Chris Nolan had Joker give a different spin on a quote given by Friedrich Nietzsche. The original quote stated, "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger".

Joker ended up putting what looked like a make-shift bomb in the man's mouth. It had a string attached, which Joker brought onto his getaway bus. When he drove off and the string was pulled, we only saw smoke come out of the "bomb". Since it was mentioned that "...what doesn't kill you..." we can assume that it made the banker stronger. After all Joker did like to mess with people's mentalities.

Joker did say "Gotham deserves a better class of criminals." later in the movie. At that point he was talking to one of the mobsters. He also claimed that the city was his.
2. What was the name of District Attorney Harvey Dent's girlfriend?

Answer: Rachel

Rachel Dawes was a childhood friend of Bruce Wayne. She was a lawyer and fully stood for what Batman fought for. Rachel believed that good would prevail. She helped Harvey work on the case against the mob. She interrogated Lau (the man who flew with the mob's money to Hong Kong).

Rachel Dawes was played by the lovely Maggie Gyllenhaal. Maggie also had parts in "Riding in Cars with Boys", "40 Days and 40 Nights", and "Stranger Than Fiction".
3. Which actor played Jim Gordon, the lieutenant turned Commissioner by the end of the movie?

Answer: Gary Oldman

Gary Oldman played Gordon in Nolan's 2005 "Batman" movie ("Batman Begins"). He also had roles in "Hannibal" (Mason Verger) and the "Harry Potter" series (Sirius Black).

Christian Bale played Batman, Aaron Eckhart played Harvey Dent, and Ron Dean played Detective Wuertz.
4. Once Joker was taken into custody, one of the officers read a list of items found on him to Gordon. We, the audience were shown his knife collection as they laid it out in front of Gordon. Besides knives, what other sharp object was Joker carrying?

Answer: potato peeler

I am not sure if the potato peeler was Nolan's idea or Ledger's but it was a neat add in!

The potato peeler was the last item placed on the table, when the police stripped Joker's pockets. The officer also explained to Gordon that he had no real name and the only other thing they found in his pockets was lint.
5. When Joker had a "change of heart" he called a news show and explained his new rules. He explained that Gotham must kill a man in 60 minutes or he would blow up a hospital in Gotham. What was the name of the man Joker wanted dead?

Answer: Coleman Reese

Coleman Reese was an accountant who worked for Wayne Enterprises. We saw several scenes where Lucius Fox told him to re-do the bookkeeping. Fox exclaimed, "We wouldn't want the trust fund to run out, would we?"

Coleman had been sitting with the news anchor when Joker called the show. Joker decided that Batman revealing his true identity would take away his fun. Joker seemed to enjoy the cat and mouse chase with Batman. Joker asked why he should have all the fun, right before he explained he wanted Coleman dead.

Coleman Reese was played by Joshua Harto. Earlier in the movie Coleman confronted Lucius Fox (Morgan Freeman) and attempted to blackmail Bruce Wayne/ Batman. Fox wished him luck on that.
6. When Batman showed up to bust the drug deal and tell off the men who dressed like him, he had his car follow him. We saw the screen inside his car twice in this sequence. The second time it was shown (right before it blew up a toll booth and a car), what did the screen in his car say?

Answer: Intimidate

After the screen showed "Intimidate", guns come out of the front of the car and fire onto a nearby toll booth, also hitting a car. The booth and car burst into flames.

This all took place in the parking garage, when we met one of the big mobster/drug dealers. He and his pals were accompanied by rottweilers.

In this scene we also briefly saw the Scarecrow who had a bigger role in "Batman Begins". Scarecrow was played by Cillian Murphy.
7. What did you see Joker constantly doing?

Answer: Licking his lips

Heath Ledger added what looked like a nervous habit to his version of the Joker. Almost every (if not every time) you saw Joker he was randomly licking his lips. Many people interpreted this as him licking his facial scars. This was most noticeable in the interrogation scene, when Batman took over the questioning. Joker got a lot of close up shots when he turned the tables on Batman in this sequence.
8. As Joker chased the SWAT cars that were transporting Harvey Dent, the real Batman showed up. After the whole chase scene Joker finally got Batman into a position where he could take his mask off. Before he could do it, he was pulled off of Batman. What was his response to the person who dragged him away?

Answer: "Oh! Can you just give me a minute?"

They were in the middle of a street in downtown Gotham. Joker was almost able to pull the mask off Batman, who was laying near the flipped over 18 wheeler that Joker had been driving. Joker was pulled off of Batman by soon-to-be Commissioner Gordon.
9. What brand of suit did Joker wear?

Answer: It was a custom

After Joker was arrested they did a normal search of his person. One of the officers reported their findings to Gordon by telling him that Joker had "No name, no other alias, clothing is custom, nothing in his pockets but knives and lint..."

Earlier in the movie, while talking to the mob Joker mentioned that "The suit wasn't cheap, you outta know ....you bought it." This was in retaliation to Maroni's remark "Just some freak clown in a cheap purple suit". He mentioned the "clown" when Lau (who was on the TV monitor) gave the mob the news that a portion of their money had been stolen from the bank.
10. When Bruce Wayne told Alfred he was going to turn himself in, Alfred mentioned they were probably going to pick him up too. He stated that the police would probably take him in as an accomplice. What did Wayne have to say about it?

Answer: "I'm going to tell them it was your idea."

Bruce and Alfred were leaving his brightly lit version of the Bat Cave when this was said. Bruce was on his way to the press conference Batman had Harvey Dent had set up. Bruce was teasing Alfred that he was going to let him take the blame for the creation of Batman.

Alfred Pennyworth was played by Michael Caine. He also played Alfred in the 2005 Batman ("Batman Begins") Another very good (and very funny) movie he had been in is "Austin Powers". He played Austin's father, Nigel Powers.
