When Chris confronts Andrea about the money, she tells him that she gets bonuses at work. In truth, she is having an affair with William Cartwright, and Cartwright is the one who gave her all that money.

Pam finds out about the money from Ben, who accidently lets it slip out during a chess game. Pam confronts Andrea about the money at the Wing And A Prayer diner, which is owned by Alice.

Chris is so in love with her, he doesn't see her for what she truly is: a selfish, low-down, arrogant woman. But everyone he works with, including Cartwright's secretary knows the truth.

After Chris and Ben get fired by William, Chris empties out the almost $300,000.00 in Andrea's bank account, in order to start his own construction company with Ben (which Andrea was never supportive of). Furious, Andrea demands that Chris go and get the money back. Ben reveals to Chris that she is having an affair and everyone knows about it. Andrea confirms it to Chris, by revealing the source of all of that money - William Cartwright, and referring to William as "her man". Out of anger, Chris slaps Andrea so hard that he knocks her over a counter. Andrea starts to throw money at him and tells him to buy some boxes so he can pack up his things and get out of her house. To hurt Chris even further, Andrea reveals that William Cartwright is the true father of Andrea's son Christopher. Later, at the construction site, Chris attacks William by punching him in the face and nearly pushing him off of a ledge.

The morning after the gala for the new building that the Cartwright Construction Company was building, Abby confronts Andrea about her affair with William Cartwright. Abby found out about the affair the night before from William's secretary (who Abby sent home due to the fact that she had way too much to drink)! While investigating the matter, Abby found several signs, such as personal purchases on Mr. Cartwright's account and hotel stays every Wednesday. Abby fires Andrea based on the fact that Andrea and William's affair violates the company's strict no fraternization policy.

Jillian (played by KaDee Strickland) goes to Charlotte, distraught over William's affair with Andrea, even though the two of them never got along (one reason being that Charlotte thought Jillian was weak, and the other reason being that Jillian eloped with William). Jillian tells her that, according to a private investigator that she hired, William meets with Andrea at the Mayhew Hotel, room 629. Charlotte reveals that William's father had affairs there too. Charlotte tells Jillian to go home, and make her demands to William, because she's "a woman scorned without a prenup". Jillian then tells Charlotte that William has planned a board meeting for later that day, in order to have her voted out.

Jillian later confronts Andrea at the Mayhew Hotel to inform her that Andrea's affair with William is over, and Jillian warns Andrea to stay away from her family.

Charlotte regains control of the construction company with help from two silent partners (Alice Evans, and Nick Blanchette), under the disguise of the calvary company, Reynolds and Blanchette (Reynolds being Alice's maiden name). Nick Blanchette was a successful broker at Cartwright Construction, until (for no reason at all), he was fired by William (around the same time that Chris, and Andrea got married). After Nick was fired, his wife died and he lost custody of his children. He became a homeless vagabond who would stop into Alice's diner and had been giving Alice financial advice for years, in repayment of Alice caring for him.

Alice states that there is no need for Charlotte to step down, giving control of the company back to Charlotte. Charlotte decides to make two changes, keep Abigail "Abby" Dexter on as C.O.O. and fire William.

The original song (sung by Lee Ann Womack) is played while Charlotte, and Alice are on their road trip. Alice sings the song at Charlotte's funeral (Charlotte commits suicide by using her medication, though it's not seen in the movie).
