Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. As the movie opened, we were invited to follow the snake, Nagini, into the old Riddle house, which was the former home of Lord Voldemort's father. As Frank Bryce, the old gardener, went to investigate the strange lights shining from the windows of the abandoned house, he found that the enormous snake was not the only one that had taken up temporary residence. How many people did he also find, taking shelter with the snake?

Answer: three

You might have also gotten away with answering 2 1/2 (if it had been an option) because Voldemort was in a much reduced, physical state! Wormtail was there, looking after Voldemort in his weakened, not yet fully, human condition. Barty Crouch Junior, devoted servant and Death Eater was also there, plotting the events that will eventually restore Voldemort to his full corporeal form.
This was a divergence from the book, where only Wormtail and Voldemort were present in this scene.
2. The first three movies of the series started out at Privet Drive, with Harry being miserable while staying with the Dursleys. Although this scene was written into the book, it was omitted from the movie in the interests of time. Where was Harry in this movie, when we first met up with him?

Answer: at the Burrow

Harry was in Ron's bedroom when he was woken from his dream, in which he experienced a disturbing connection with Voldemort, thus witnessing the events in the Riddle house when Frank Bryce was killed. Hermione woke Harry and Ron so that they could get going, and catch the Portkey to the Quidditch World Cup.
3. When Harry, Hermione and the Weasleys all gathered around the Portkey to await transporting to the Quidditch World Cup, we are introduced to someone who will become a fairly important character later on in the movie. Who was it?

Answer: Cedric Diggory

Cedric would become the first Hogwarts' champion in the Triwizard Tournament, selected by the Goblet of Fire. Harry's name emerged from the Goblet as the fourth champion, something that should not have happened because of his age, and the fact that only three champions should have been named.
Only underage witches and wizards who were too young to apparate needed to take Portkeys. Cedric, being 17 and old enough to compete in the Triwizard tournament, should have had no need to use the Portkey. Perhaps he had just turned 17, and had not passed his test yet.
4. Do we get to actually see who wins the Quidditch World Cup?

Answer: No

The remark that the commotion going on outside the tent must be the Irish celebrating led us, correctly, to believe that the Irish team won, but it was never clearly stated. In the book we learned that even though Krum caught the Snitch, the Irish team was far enough ahead in points that they still won.
The noise turned out to not be the celebration of the Irish, but the rampages of the Death Eaters.
5. By the rules of the Triwizard Tournament, each of the participating schools would have one champion selected by the Goblet of Fire. Who was the champion for Beauxbatons?

Answer: Fleur Delacour

In the movie Fleur appeared to be a regular girl with a charming French accent. In the book, Fleur's grandmother was a Veela, a beautiful, magical creature from Bulgaria. The appearance of Veela as the Bulgarian team mascots at the Quidditch World Cup had a very strange effect on most of the men there. With Veela blood in her veins, Fleur developed quite a following of admirers at Hogwarts, Ron being one of them.
6. Where, in the movie, is the only place that Harry saw his godfather, Sirius Black?

Answer: in the fire of the Gryffindor Common Room

Because Sirius was still wanted by the Ministry, as an escaped murderer from Azkaban, he had to be very careful about where he was seen. Harry's note informing Sirius about his dream and about being made a Triwizard champion, worried Sirius enough to make him risk talking to Harry through the coals in the fire.

This was presented very differently from way it was described in the book, where the Floo Network was used for this type of communication, and the head appeared to float above the fire rather than actually be part of it. Harry's saw much more of Sirius in the book.
7. Who gave Harry advanced warning about what the first task in the Tournament would be?

Answer: Hagrid

Hagrid's fascination for dragons was well documented. He took Madame Maxime, headmaster of Beauxbatons for a walk to see the dragons, after having told Harry to follow behind beneath his invisibility cloak. Harry then told Cedric about the dragons, because Cedric was the only champion who did not know. Cedric returned the favour, by giving Harry advice on how to solve the mystery of the Golden Egg.
8. There were four different dragons, one for each champion to get past, in order to collect the golden egg. Each champion drew a miniature model of the dragon he or she had to face, from a bag. Harry was given last draw. What dragon was left in the bag for Harry to face?

Answer: the Hungarian Horntail

Fleur chose first and drew the Welsh Green dragon, and Krum selected the Chinese Fireball. Cedric picked the Swedish Short-Snout, leaving Harry with the Hungarian Horntail. A quick reference was made in the movie about the Horntail being the most nasty of the four, a fact that was dealt with a little more extensively in the book. Harry's brilliant flying helped him accomplish his task.
9. What less than honest device did reporter Rita Skeeter use for recording, when conducting her interviews?

Answer: Quick-Quotes Quill

Rita's quill was referred to as being acid green, which was very fitting, considering the nasty reviews that she wrote with it. Representing sensational journalism at its worst, Rita was obsessed with Harry, and how his history could be exploited in her reports. With a much larger role in the book, she caused much more damage then she did in the movie, revealing to the wizarding world that Hagrid was a half giant.
10. As part of the Triwizard Tournament, a ball was held on Christmas Eve. Tournament champions were expected to lead off the dance with their partners, and Hermione created quite a stir by arriving at the dance as Viktor Krum's date. Who did Ginny Weasley attend the ball with?

Answer: Neville Longbottom

In the book, only students who were in fourth year and higher were allowed to attend the ball. Being in third year, the only way Ginny was able to go was with an older student. Ron and Harry had a terrible time asking someone to go with them, leaving it to so late that most everyone they asked already had a date.

They ended up going with twin sisters Parvati and Padma Patil, who were not happy because Harry did not dance any more than the obligatory first dance, and Ron refused to dance at all. Ron was too busy being angry over the fact that Hermione was with Krum, and Harry was upset about Cho Chang going with Cedric Diggory.
