Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the name of the Elven King who visited Erebor?

Answer: Thranduil

As shown in the beginning of the movie, the great dwarf kingdom of Erebor was visited by Thranduil, the Elven King who, as fans of "LOTR" also know, is also the father of Legolas, who did not make an appearance in the first Hobbit movie.

Elrond, while mentioning that he knew Thror when he ruled under the mountain, did not say how or when he'd met him.

Linder is actually the Elf who met the Company when they first arrived at Rivendell after using the Secret Pass to escape the Orcs.
2. Who did Thorin tell to sound the alarm as Smaug attacked Erebor?

Answer: Balin

As Smaug swept in to attack Erebor and Dale, Thorin told a much younger Balin to sound for the alarms and then explained when pressed that a dragon was attacking.
3. What did Bilbo tell Frodo that the small chest of gold smelled like?

Answer: Troll

As he hurried to put valuables away in an effort to hide them from the Sackville-Baggins, Bilbo replied to Frodo's comment about tunnels of gold by saying that it was only one small chest and that it still smelled of Troll.
4. When Dori offered Gandalf a drink, what beverage did the Wizard say he'd prefer?

Answer: Red Wine

When Dori offered Gandalf a cup of tea as the Dwarves were setting the table with the entire contents of Bilbo's pantry, the Wizard kindly refused and instead asked for red wine. Which turned out to be a Hobbit sized glass of red wine with a nice fruity bouquet...or so Dori said of the flavor.
5. Bofur only communicates in grunts or gestures.

Answer: False

Bifur can only communicate in grunts or gestures, which is more than likely due to the rusty broken Orc axe that is still embedded in his head.

Bofur actually communicates quite well and in some cases too well since he tends to speak a little freely.
6. Who handed out the gold after Bilbo caught up to the Company and learned that some of the Dwarves had taken bets on him showing up?

Answer: Nori

After reconsidering his earlier choice to not go on the adventure, Bilbo signed the contract and then ran to catch up with the Company. He then learned, as Oin called to Nori to pay up and pouches of gold began flying back and forth, that some of the Dwarves had taken wagers on him showing up at all. Gandalf, it seemed, had also taken part of that wager since he earned a pouch as well.
7. Who was the first Dwarf to try to free Bilbo from the Trolls?

Answer: Kili

After learning that three Mountain Trolls were stealing the ponies, Kili and Fili had encouraged Bilbo to get in close to rescue them, since mountain Trolls are big and slow and he was so small. However, after being grabbed by the Trolls, it was Kili who first burst out of the brush to slice the nearest Troll and order them to drop Bilbo.

The others rushed out to join the fray after Bilbo was tossed Kili's way.
8. Where did the secret pass lead the Company?

Answer: Rivendell

Escaping the pursuing pack of Warg-riding Orcs by following Gandalf down a secret hole in the ground and following the path, the company of Dwarves found themselves in Rivendell, or Imladris, which was not something Thorin was pleased with since he has a serious mistrust of Elves.
9. What did Ori say he didn't like to eat while at Rivendell?

Answer: Green food

Accepting, probably somewhat suspiciously, Elrond's invitation to eat, the Dwarves were examining the food given to them. Dori was trying to convince Ori to just take a bite but the younger dwarf refused by saying he didn't like green foods.
Dwalin just wanted to know where the meat was.
10. Oin's hearing aid was crushed by a Goblin.

Answer: True

Oin is seen throughout the movie with his little hearing trumpet, that didn't always work, but after being captured by the Goblins under the Misty Mountains it was seen being crushed. At the end of the movie, as they all gather to gaze at the Lonely Mountain off in the distance, it is still shown that he has it...though it does appear to be smashed.
