1. What is the first country we see in the movie?

The first scene of the movie occurs in Prague, Czech Republic, where we see Steve Tobias (Michael Douglas) meet with a Russian criminal in a car in the middle of the night. Tobias, who is an undercover CIA agent, promises his counterpart to get him tickets to a Celine Dion concert the next time he is in America.

The police find them and start a chase trying to catch them, but they fail, and Tobias escapes in a plane.

2. Tobias flies back to the U.S, as his son will be getting married soon. Meanwhile, his son's girlfriend visits her father, who is a doctor. What is Jerry Peyser's specialty?

Answer: Feet

Dr. Jerry Peyser (Albert Brooks) is a podiatrist. The first time we see him in the movie, he is getting mad at a patient because he did not take care of his feet fungus the way Dr. Peyser had directed him to. When Melissa (Lindsay Sloane), his daughter, visits him to discuss final details for her wedding with Mark (Ryan Reynolds), her father informs her he fired yet another caterer for the event, to Melissa's disbelief.

3. To hide the fact that his father is a CIA agent, Mark tells his in-laws that he has another profession. What does Mark claim to be his father's job, which apparently requires him to work all the time?

While Katherine (Maria Ricossa) shows Mark photo albums of her daughter, she says that Mr. Tobias seems to be working all the time, and that she didn't know selling Xerox machines was so demanding. Mark responds, "It's a wild ride, but he loves it."

4. Steve decides to take Melissa's parents, as well as Melissa and Mark, to a Vietnamese restaurant, where the hostess is his CIA partner, Angela Harris (Robin Tunney). During dinner, Tobias beats a man in the bathroom, which scares Jerry and makes him leave the restaurant. The following day, Steve tries to make it up to Jerry, so he attends a medical conference. At the middle of a lecture, Jerry is interrupted by Steve, who asks for forgiveness and shows the students what a great teacher they have. When they step out to speak in private, Jerry accidentally takes a nuclear waste container from Steve, causing FBI agents to arrest him erroneously. Steve helps him escape dressed as a homeless person, and makes the car explode to get Jerry out of there.

5. As Steve and Angela escape with Jerry to a private location, the doctor is obviously very nervous about everything happening around him. When they confess to Jerry they are CIA agents, he refuses to believe them, but shortly passes out, as he was given "rophies", otherwise known as which drug?

Angela suggests killing Jerry as he already knows the secret, but Steve opts for a somewhat more peaceful solution: drugging Jerry. When he wakes up, he is in a plane, with Steve cooking behind him, and nobody piloting!

6. As it turns out, the plane is in automatic pilot mode, and the luxurious plane even has room for Steve to cook. According to Steve, which celebrity, known for songs like "Woman in Love", does the plane belong to?

Answer: Barbra Streisand

When Jerry wakes up, he is informed by Steve that they're on their way to France in Barbra Streisand's plane. Jerry can't believe it, and runs to the bathroom, where he finds a phone and calls home. His daughter, who is at her bachelorette party, answers the phone and doesn't understand what her dad is talking about. A few minutes later, federal agents show up looking for Jerry, as he had escaped arrest.

Barbra Streisand has done pretty much everything; she is a singer, songwriter, actress, director and even an author! She has made enough money to buy her own private jet! Interestingly, Streisand acted as a mother-in-law herself in the "Meet the Parents" series of movies.

7. Steve and Jerry land in France, where they meet a French smuggler posing as fellow criminals. They are welcomed by Jean-Pierre (David Suchet), a world-class smuggler who plans to do business with Steve, obviously not knowing he is a CIA spy. As Steve is left alone, Jerry (who was introduced as "Fat Cobra") and Jean-Pierre take a walk, and discuss how many kills they have. Jerry responds six, but quickly realizes that is very little for the killer he is supposed to be. Since which festive time of the year that involves a tree, according to Jerry, has he killed six people?

Answer: Christmas

In this hilarious scene, Jerry tries to stay in character, and agrees with Jean-Pierre that holding a human heart with bare hands is a great feeling. When Jean-Pierre says his foot hurts, Jerry takes advantage of his doctor abilities to diagnose him, and suggests soaking his feet in water, although Jean-Pierre prefers to jump in his jacuzzi, with Jerry of course.

After their "soak", Jerry calls the FBI and urges them to believe he is innocent. It is revealed that Tobias is a rogue CIA agent who was let go and turned to the bad side.

He hangs up as Steve catches him calling, and they make their way back to Chicago.

8. While Steve and Jerry return, Melissa meets her soon-to-be mother-in-law, Judy Tobias, who tells her she is her dream daughter she never had, as Mark was supposed to be a girl. Who plays the mother who makes this badly-timed comment?

Answer: Candice Bergen

Judy arrives with what appears to be a Buddhist monk, who will officiate the ceremony jointly with a rabbi. They originally were planning to host the rehearsal dinner in the Marriott hotel, but as Jerry revealed to the FBI agents that he would be there, the dinner is changed to the Hancock Tower.

Candice Bergen is a prolific American actress, who has appeared notably in TV show "Murphy Brown" as a television reporter of that same name. This role won her five Emmy Awards.

9. Jerry arrives to the party, and can't believe everything that has happened to him. He then tells his wife he flew to Paris and back, which actually makes both of them happy, since Jerry has a flying phobia. A bit after this, Jerry and Steve introduce a certain 1980s band, particularly known for "That's The Way (I Like It)". What is the name of this band?

Answer: KC and the Sunshine Band

Steve remembers his son told him that "Get Down Tonight" by KC and the Sunshine Band was the song he first shared with Melissa on their first date, so he arranges for them to play at the wedding. The band entered a long hiatus in 2001, and they returned to make a brief appearance in this movie.

10. So after a drastic turn of events in which Angela is revealed to be Jean-Pierre's partner, the story does have a happy, if unexpected, ending. Angela ends up being thrown into the ocean, but who ends up marrying Mark and Melissa?

Steve confesses to the FBI agent that he is on a deep undercover mission, and that only one CIA officer knows it. The FBI now owes him a favor for almost blowing his cover several times, and it's paid by the FBI agent officiating the marriage ceremony. Mark even steps on a plastic bottle, resembling the Jewish tradition to break a glass, and it all ends happily ever after.

The happy couple gets married, Steve and Judy end up as friends, Jean-Pierre is arrested, and the in-laws get along!
