Answer: Tenacious D
'Tribute' is one of Tenacious D's most popular songs, and is a staple in their live performances to fans. The song is best known for its odd music video based on the lyrics of the song, where members Jack Black and Kyle Gass try to record the song in a karaoke booth.
Whilst inside, they retell of a time where they managed to fight off a demon played by Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters with the 'best song in the world'.
2. 'This is Where I Came In', 2001.
Answer: The Bee Gees
The final single released by The Bee Gees, 'This is Where I Came In' was first performed in their PBS special 'One Night Only' in 1997, four years before its official release. The band went back to their roots for the album of the same name, going for a more stripped down acoustic rock sound.
It is the last album for the band, after the passing of Maurice and Robin Gibb in 2003 and 2012 respectively.
3. 'Lean On', 2015.
Answer: Major Lazor & DJ Snake featuring MO
'Lean On' is the first single off of Major Lazor's 2015 album 'Peace is the Mission'. Collaborating with DJ Snake and Danish singer MØ, it is one of the biggest hits of 2015, landing in the Top Ten of the Billboard Hot 100. The video for 'Lean On' was filmed in India, and has been viewed one billion times on YouTube, making it one of the most viewed videos in YouTube's history.
4. 'Jeremy', 1991.
Answer: Pearl Jam
Arguably one of Pearl Jam's signature songs, 'Jeremy' is based on the dark true story of a boy who shot himself in front of his high school class. The grim and frenetic music video brought Pearl Jam their big break, but is still shrouded in controversy due to its dramatic and bloody visuals that touch on child abuse, child negligence, bullying and suicide.
The band has since stopped producing elaborate music videos for the singles, stating that they don't want their songs be remembered just as videos and that they want to be remembered for their music and songwriting.
5. 'Porcelain', 1999.
Answer: Moby
'Porcelain' is Moby's sixth single from his breakthrough album 'Play'. A simple composition of light piano with a modified string arrangement, 'Porcelain' tells of a break up Moby experienced, showcasing a more sensitive approach to his music. It is one of Moby's biggest hits, peaking at number five in the UK Singles chart, and has been licensed for use in commercials and movies, such as 1999's 'The Beach' starring Leonardo DiCaprio.
6. 'By The Way', 2002.
Answer: Red Hot Chili Peppers
After a massive comeback in 2000 with 'Californication', the Red Hot Chili Peppers were riding a wave of momentum that helped them release the 2002 smash hit album 'By The Way'. The lead single of the same name reached the Top 40 in the Billboard Hot 100 chart and number one on the Billboard Hot Modern Rock Tracks chart.
The music video showed lead vocalist Anthony Kiedis being kidnapped by a cabby, who happens to be an obsessed fan of the Peppers. Later, Anthony gets rescued by bandmates Flea and John Frusciante, only for drummer Chad Smith to hail the cabby by chance after Anthony's rescue.
7. 'Fill Me In', 2000.
Answer: Craig David
The hot debut for UK R&B artist Craig David, 'Fill Me In' made an impact for the 19 year old in 2000. The song tells of Craig trying to woo the girl next door, whilst her parents snoop around to check her for any suspicious activities. The song was Craig's global breakthrough, peaking at number 15 on the Billboard Hot 100, and the top spot of the UK Singles chart.
8. 'Love At First Sight', 2001.
Answer: Kylie Minogue
'Love at First Sight' is the third single off Kylie's 2001 smash 'Fever'. The song is a Europop inspired ballad on falling in love at first instance. Her wave of success flowed, peaking number three in the ARIA Australia chart and the UK Singles chart. Prior to 'Fever', Kylie also had another song of the same name in her 1988 self titled album, though it was never released as a single.
9. 'Stan', 2000.
Answer: Eminem featuring Dido
Eminem raps a dark tale of a fan obsessed in 'Stan'. Taking the first three verses in the character of Stan, Eminem shows the fan's sanity crack as he impatiently waits for the Detroit rapper's reply. His obsession with Eminem erodes his relationship with a pregnant girlfriend, played by Dido in the music video. By the third verse, Stan is overcome by rage so that he drives off with his girlfriend in the trunk, tied and gagged whilst recording a scathing message to Eminem before crashing off a bridge.
The final verse reveals Eminem finally writing his response to Stan, only realizing he is too late after a news report shows the wreckage of Stan's car, and both Stan and his girlfriend are dead.
'Stan' samples the chorus of Dido's own song 'Thank You', which was the inspiration for Eminem's twisted tale.
10. 'Open Your Eyes', 2004.
Answer: Alter Bridge
'Open Your Eyes' is the debut single of Alter Bridge, a band made up of the three core members from Creed, with singer Myles Kennedy, formerly of The Mayfield Four. Following Creed's tumultuous break up, guitarist Mark Tremonti, bassist Brian Phillips and drummer Scott Phillips formed the band to continue their musical endeavours. 'Open Your Eyes' became a debut success in the Billboard Modern Rock chart, reaching number two, and is a staple in all their live performance encores.
