Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who was the lead singer for the group "The Seeds"?

Answer: Sky Saxon

The Seeds were one of the first musical guests on the Joey Bishop
Show - and were very "out of tune".
2. Name the British Isles group that gave Van Morrison his start.

Answer: Them

Van was so shy that it took him years to be able to face the audience
while on stage. He is noted for his "perfectionism" in the studio.
3. Which Motown singer started out as a secretary for the famed record commpany?

Answer: Martha Reeves

Aretha never recorded for Motown, she was part of the Atlantic Records stable.
4. Name the first female singer in the Jefferson Airplane.

Answer: Signe Anderson

Grace Slick replaced Signe mostly based on her songwriting skills.
It was after she first heard the "Airplane", that she was inspired
to write "White Rabbit".
5. Who had the Motown hit "My Guy"?

Answer: Mary Wells

While she never had the success that many other Motown artists had, she
was often the first choice for 'tricky' back-up parts.
6. Who was the first "non-relative" (of the "Wilsons) to play with the Beach Boys?

Answer: Al Jardine

Al actually left the group to go back to Dentist school, and was
not pictured on their first album. He "took a chance" and came
back - good career move!
7. Who wrote the Motown classics "Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing" and "Ain't No Mountain High Enough"

Answer: Ashford & Simpson

Their "hits" were larger for other bands than for them, but they
put on one heck of a show!
8. Sam Shepard (the playwriter) was once the drummer for "The Holy Modal Rounders"?

Answer: True

Their only real claim to fame was being part of the "Easy Rider" soundtrack.
9. Who was the first Beatle to produce and release a solo album?

Answer: George Harrison

"Wonderwall" came out in 1968, prior to the band's breakup. Paul's
solo album wasn't released until 1970.
10. Name the female group who recorded "Leader of the Pack".

Answer: The Shangri-Las

This fine group consisted of two groups of sisters:
Mary & Betty Weiss and Margy & Mary Anne Ganser.
Pay attention - it may show up on another quiz!
